Heartless: Chapter One ^^

PreviousNext

(So, this is one of my best works so far X3 (In my opinion ) It certainly is one of my favorite story ideas XD I admit, it might be a little long (Chapter Two more so '') ALTHOUGH THIS LOOKS LONG, I SWEAR IT'S A QUICK READ (The same goes for Chapter Two ) And just so ya'll know, cause there have been problems with this: The MC IS A GUY. This only becomes clear in chapter two, cause I planned to have a Prolouge that explains this  So, you don't have to write a full out review (although it is appriciated ^^) Maybe you could atleast write a sentance or two about what you think about it, maybe? '' (Pwease? )

Ok, enough of my blabering. I present: Chapter One! XD)

Chapter One

Cautiously I walked up to the fridge, expecting anything. It creaked slightly as I pulled it open, light spilling out into the dark room.

"Food!!”

I banged the door open, taking in the glorious miracle before me. Despite the circumstances I laughed hysterically, not caring what heard me. I sank to my knees, bowing to it. After so long, all the food I can eat!

“Hee-hee.”

I froze, staring at the ground with wide eyes, any trace of happiness gone. Immediately I became aware of the tell-tale yellow glow. I slowly got up on my feet. Careful not to make any sudden movements I tilted my head back. A pair of yellow lights stared back down.

It was a monster.

Except. . .

This one looked human, although it also looked like the others. Its skin swirled slightly like dark smoke trapped in glass, a living shadow. But unlike the others, this one had a definite filled-out shape instead of being just a formless mass of shadow.

Because of this I could tell rather obviously that it was a girl. Any tiny details of its person were lost in the blackness, although some basic figures were there. Like her nose, which was slightly up turned, and her mouth, pulled into a wide grin.

She had clothes, which subconsciously struck me as weird. The only other monster I came across that looked even slightly humanoid attacked me on sight, shrieking like a banshee. It didn’t ‘giggle’ at me, nor did it have any clothes. This one also had hair, which was a new concept. It was dark purple, pulled back out of her face in a lose bun.

She stared at me with those eyes, if you can even call them that. They were like two bright yellow holes in the darkness just like the others except hers had an eerie intelligence behind them. Or maybe it was insanity. I couldn’t tell.

We stood there, staring at each other. Or rather I stood, my body shaking uncontrollably while she gazed down at me, her legs slightly swaying over the edge. She looked like she was waiting for me to say something.

Despite all my instincts telling me not to, I spoke.

“Hi . . . ?”

She let out a shriek of what sounded like delight as her grin pulled into a full blown out smile. It leaped from atop the fridge, making me back up a few feet only to end up falling onto my butt, regretting that I had spoken.

She landed on her feet with a fairly loud booming noise in front of where I was standing. I scrambled backwards as she tilted her head to the side sharply until I heard a small crack.

“Ah, better.” She sighed in satisfaction, rubbing her neck.

I sat there shocked. Although it was weird that it had giggled and that it had a face, it was outright shocking that it could speak. The most the others ever did was hiss or shriek. Or try to kill me. Usually all three.

I tore away from my thoughts as she turned her full attention back to me.

“So, are you going to talk again or not?” She had her hands on her hips, looking at me expectantly.

“You’re not, ya know . . . going to kill me?” I said, thrown off by the fact it spoke again, and in coherent sentences.

She laughed so hard she bent over, holding her sides.

“You’re funny.” She said still laughing after she straightened, pointing at me, shoulders hunched in a surprisingly natural pose.

Just as I was about to recover and say something witty or maybe just pee myself, she stiffened. Her face went slack in an instant, her gaze wandering away from me.

“What’s-?”

I was cut off in a blur. Reaching out, clamping her cold hand on my arm, she jerked me to my feet and practically dragged me along with her as she ran out of the room.

She leaped over the debris like it was nothing, not stopping for an instant in the darkness. I was too shocked to do anything but run along with her. We bolted out of the house, turning sharply to the side.

Suddenly she jumped into the large unkempt bushes, yanking me in along with her. She knelt, turned towards the house, her eyes trained on some point in the driveway.

“What are we-?” I started to say.

“Shhh!!” I was silent.

That’s when I heard it. Sharp hissing.

In an instant the all too familiar figures of the monsters I’ve seen since the start materialized out of nothing. Some of them had a slight human shape to them but a few were just clouds of shadowy vapor. All of them had two big circular disks of light that cast an eerie glow over the immediate space around them. The less formed one’s were dimmer and flickered weakly.

They swarmed the house quickly, the ones without legs just drifting. There were at least seven, maybe ten in all.

After they all were inside the shadow girl stood, turned, and pulled me with her as she ran in the other direction. I heard the shrieks of the monsters as we ran, chilling me from the inside out, but we weren’t pursued.

As we were running it struck me. She just saved my life. If I had still been in there, probably feasting on all the food, they would have gotten me. One or two I could fight off but definitely not more than four. I stared at the back of her head as we ran.

Just as my legs started to feel like jelly, we stopped at a double-door hatch in the ground. It looked like it came from The Wizard of Oz. Releasing me she pulled open the doors with surprising strength. She rushed behind me and pushed me in, then almost landed on top of me as she closed the doors behind us.

Hi Kat-chan. ^u^

Personally, I thought this was a really good idea. It's funny, quirky, weird and strangely suspenseful at the same time. I keep wondering how this all happened... like how the shadows came to be.

The MC is hilarious! >u< FOOD! Your characters have always been like this. Keep writing like this cause you've always suited this type. ;D

The structure...I don't mind. I always write like this so who am I to judge? XD

Keep writing Kat-chan. I'd love to read more. ^u^

Haha, Thank you! XD
Yes, many of my characters enjoy food X3 (Who doesn't? XD)
Again, thank you for commenting and reading, and I'll tell you when chapter three comes out!! XD
*Hugs XD*

Wow this certainly grabbed my interest. Thank you for mentioning that the main character is a boy. Hardly draggy at all which is rare in many of the stories I see. One thing to work on is the title. It needs to be something slightly chilling and thrilling and interest grabbing. Hope to read more chapters soon. You are a good writer and I hope to review more of your work

Hmm. . I'll think about that XD Thank you for the suggestion about the Title!! XD
And Thank You for Reading and Commenting!! XD
I hope to put more up soon X3

Okay first off, I'm totally reading the rest of this book. I like the storyline so far, it's definitely interesting. Although the setting was a little unclear, but that was the only problem I had. I already like the monster girl and the MC. The story made me laugh which is always a sign that the book is going to be good, I mean who doesn't like a good laugh? I like the story so far and can't wait to read more!

Haha, thank you!! XD I already know where I'm going with this, (It won't be very long ^^ Might expand it some day though X3) and yeah, I planned to have a Prologue, but I felt it would be a little more serious and would rather people read this first X3
Again, Thank You for Reading and Commenting!! XD
I hope to put more up soon X3 (I don't want to rush it too much ''X3 I want to write the rest like I wrote this X3)

There's a good beginning conflict. There's good suspense at the end of the chapter; which makes readers want more. Also genre is unclear, so any reader would continue to find out the genre.

Hello Kat :D
Just a comment, like you said, not a reviews.
I think the idea is great, and was definitely fun to read. You had great pacing and your writing was pretty funny sometime, too.

My only problem was that it's written more like a storybook post and not like a novel, you know like the whole format thing. Just look kinda informal... er something.

I'll stop before I start doing a full review xD
Again, very col idea and great writing.
I'll definitely read other chapters when you post them :D

Haha, Thank You! XD
Yeah, it's very informal X3 I usually like that kind of writing and tend to write like it X3 I rarely see good books like that and really admire the ones that can pull it off X3
Again, thank you for reading the work, and I hope to get more up soon!! X3
