E - Everyone

In Poetry

I swear the nights get darker
For everyone I look at turns away-
Every eve in the summer

Nobody can see the words I don't say
I hug my rage close to me, my invisibility cloak
Without it I am nothing-

Empty words sweat on the page
It's all blank: life and my reasons
Turn the page for kicks-

Or don't

-If I had nothing maybe I'd see clearer
As of now I have nothing but 'maybe's
oh, if only-

I don't know
What to forage for
Which poison berries stain your soul, which will steal it.
I will eat the worst ones

Give me a map of where to wander;
Give me a life to live

Hello! Your poem caught my eye, so let's get it out of the Green Room:

Stream of consciousness is a literary technique that I always enjoy, and it's a treat to see them because I feel like I don't get to see them in much of the literature I read. I love how the punctuation highlights the chaotic progression of the narrator's thoughts, always pausing, cutting off, moving on to the next experience.

Nobody can see the words I don't say

This line juxtaposes itself, which I love. It's frustrating when nobody notices what you're saying, but in the end, you haven't said anything, so it's equally frustrating.

Empty words sweat on the page

Great description. It evokes a powerful feeling of what depression can do to someone.

Which poison berries stain your soul, which will steal it.
I will eat the worst ones

Another fantastic line. Consuming damaging things will only damage yourself, yet the narrator willingly does so.

Lovely poem!

Hi Just!

Looks like we are all feeling very poet-y today haha.

I liked your poem!

I swear the nights get darker
For everyone I look at turns away-

This is a great description and gave me the visual in my mind instantly.

Empty words sweat on the page

I really like this idea. Of words, sitting there on a page... waiting... sweating... not able to be used or seen as they should. Hidden away, they may have escaped the mind but are now caged within those lines. Really cool.

If I had nothing maybe I'd see clearer
As of now I have nothing but 'maybe's

Oof, yes. Too many options are as bad as no options at all, causing the same paralysis. Great visual.

Which poison berries stain your soul, which will steal it.
I will eat the worst ones

Which begs the question! Is it better to have a poisoned soul, or no soul at all?? Such a great set of lines!

Really nice poem Just. I love when they make you think and can be interpreted in multiple ways. Thanks for sharing!

thanks (❁´◡`❁)
