Quiet

PreviousNext

This is my personal experience. I am an introvert by nature and hence it is difficult for me to come up. This piece is inspired by my life experience and the awesome book Quiet by Susan Cain. Do read it if you haven't. Its amazing.

I love to sit alone in class

and have myself by the window seat,

as i observe the long, green grass

philosophical thoughts, in my mind meet.

I prefer to talk less

i am happy with my thoughts,

but people question my seriousness

which hurt me like bullet shots.

My friends make fun of me

and leave me alone for a better company,

the relatives exclaim she's so quiet, isn't she

and dad remarks that my personality hasn't developed fully.

Teachers ask me why are you so quiet

raise your hand and answer like these,

but i think education beyond the books is right

hence following the crowd isn't for me please.

The condition is that even the nonsense is praised

if you get up and speak fluently,

hope someone recognizes every class' quiet minded

and bring out that person the world needs.

I don't know if you can count me in as a quite person but I only seek company of people I like and I'm definetly not good with strangers and relatives and yes, my dad complaints like a LOT. But you know I have friends that I constantly talk but other than that I like to alone with my thoughts and for most people it is very hard to understand and it's hard to make them understand but it's not right to change who you are for them and be true to yourself.
About your poem it's amazing and I am not that kind of a critic that pry on each little mistake so yes it's nice and since they are true experiences they actually make the readers feel what u are feeling and see from your side and I think writing can really help a silent person express themselves.

As a quiet person myself, this is really a great explanation of what it's like to be looked down upon for not being who people want you to be.

Onto my critiques. First off, I think that this could use some help with punctuation. I'd advise you to play around with it and see how different types change the pacing of the poem and the sentence structure. One of the best ways to edit poems is to change it into a huge paragraph and see if you can read it. If you can, then place line breaks where it makes sense for them to fall. If not, edit accordingly until you can.

There were a couple of times you didn't capitalize your I's, so unless that's for a stylistic reason that I'm missing, you might want to go back and capitalize.

There's a somberness and quiet strength to this poem that I like. It creates a sense of "this is who I am and what I go through" without shoving it in the reader's face. It flows well. Nice job with that.

Overall, I loved the poem, and great job!

Hello, FamelicosFudgel. I am here to provide you a review. Let’s get started, shall we?

I. CLARITY & MESSAGE
Since this is from personal experience, I will just be stating my opinion in this. I understood the message you are trying to send to your readers. You are expressing how you are and the consequences of that. Don’t worry, I am also the same way. Or used to be in school. I was always the quiet one in the bunch, never socialized with people, but, once I got to know someone, I open up. I get what you are saying, so you are not alone in this.

II. TONE & STRUCTURE
The tone in this poem seems… sad? You are expressing this in a way that you are sad that you are an introvert. ( Could be wrong, so I am sorry if I am. ). It will definitely get better in the future. Like I said, I used to be the same way, but now I am more sociable than I used to be. It will get better overtime, I promise you. Also, the structure of the poem, I love it. I don't really have much to say about the structure because it looks nice in italics.

III. OVERALL
Overall, I enjoyed the poem, only because you expressed it in your way, this involved your thoughts and feelings. Also, expressing how you feel through words is a great outlet. Remember, you are not alone. You have me to talk to, and the members of the site! We will make you part of our home. Our family.
Keep up the great work. Keep writing and enjoy the rest of your day.

Thanks for your support. I wasn't really sad while writing this and didn't even realised it had turned to a sad side. But it being my very experience each word and line is true and it was all sad I guess. But thanks anyway.

Wow, I can relate to this. I am mostly quite introverted but it mostly depends on the situation for me usually. I really like the poem
On the second line of the first stanza change the comma to a period and on the next line the first word can be capitalized and the line should end with a comma. This bit of capitalization and grammar can help make the poem a little easier to read but it is not necessary for poetry.
Other examples where grammar can be improved on is in the second stanza, you can add a period to the end of the first line and capitalize the "I" on the second line.
On the lines "but people question my seriousness which hurt me like bullet shots." I think you maybe change it to "but when people question my seriousness, it hurts like bullet shots". I think this change can help make the flow smoother and maybe you can experiment with changing "hurt" to words like wound or maybe sting (but that might not be strong enough of a word).
On the final line of the fourth stanza, get rid of please and end the line with me. The "please" just feels a little awkward and getting rid of the please will make the stanza end with a simple but nice slant rhyme.
Overall I really like this poem and relate to this so much but here are just a few suggestions I can think of to improve it. You can use some, all or none of them. I also probably will check out the book it sounds really good.

Thanks for the suggestions. I always lag behind in punctuation because I really don't know how to do it. So thanks a lot. I will surely work on the crooked bits. And yes the book is fabulous.%uD83D%uDE0A
