An Ode to Google

by Evi

Published January 11, 2009

In Poetry

Oh Google, oh Google,
none could hope to compare.
You're simply fantastic!
Your smarts must be shared.

I'm awed by your wisdom,
you have instant results
'bout the latest celebrities
or brain-washing cults.

My heart goes to Google
and your wonderous feats.
You far surpass Yahoo;
Bing just can't compete!

You come from the heavens,
search engine on high.
Type in any old word,
and results reach the skies!

They might not make sense;
oftentimes it's not right.
But, hey, there are thousands!
You could Google all night!

On whatever the topic,
an image you need,
Google can do it!
And there's even no fee!

So, a message to all of
you people out there.
To all of you writers
or stylists of hair.

To any with problems,
or in need of a laugh.
For a student whose homework
was dropped in the bath.

The word of all words,
that calls for high praise.
Let's be thankful for Google!
All hail, all our days!

Haha I love this. Google is truly in debt to you and your praise. Cute. Very cute. I'm a big fan of google myswlf(yahoo and bing just aren't good enough for me, lol). I love the rhyme scheme here and the humor. I don't see anything wrong. This was very creative, dunno who would think to right an ode for a search site. My favorite line: To any with problems or a need of a laugh. For a student who's homework was dropped into the both. I don't know how many times I've used google to assist in my homework when it gets ruined. Very good. I'll be following for more. :)

I liked how the piece was fun and joyful. It really made me appreciate google(haha). Overall, grammar was pretty on point.

Your word choice was appropriate for the text and the rhymes really helped with the flow of things.

I found the topic to be very interesting. I mean, who would ever think to write a poem on Google? It was also humorous to read which made it even more better.

As for critique....Hmmm.... I can't seem to find anything wrong! Great job.

This poem is so cute! It might not be highly sophisticated, but that doesn't mean it's bad. Sometimes it's really nice to just read a poem for the sheer joy of something that rhymes and brings enjoyment because of the creative way it was written. For the younger age group on this website it's really nice for them to read and not have to interpret too much. I personally enjoyed reading it, and will probably show my little sibling. It's a great starter poem for younger children to become interested. All in all a good poem. Keep up the good work!

Hey.

2009?? This is soo sooo soooo old, but nonetheless, it's awesome :P I mean it. Genuinely. It's a kiddie poem (by your age that time?) and it's kinda the type that floats the schools for years. Now I don't know who was stalking you and how all of a sudden this old piece became featured, but it is good to be featured actually.

I can't criticize because obviously, the context is so different. Haha good one :D

Keep writing and stay blessed.

I feel like this was super cheesy, but I liked it, nonetheless! You're choice of words and your rhyming were both great. You left a constant rhythm in my head, one I can't seem to get rid of. I can imagine staying up all night and googling any odd thing that comes to mind. I can also see someone doing their homework in their bathtub. The only thing that bothers me, is how need and fee don't necessarily rhyme.

You did a good job on this.

Heyo, xJ here for a review.

I thought this poem was cute and humorous. And actually quite true. I appreciated how you made it rhyme. And to be honest, this could be made into a song. And I liked the use of "cult" which is not a common word! Kudos to you.

Overall, I liked it, but It feels like an advertisement in the form of a poem. But nice work nonetheless.

May your travels through space and time be merry,

Hello! A light-hearted and fun poem, here. I'm unsure of the rhyming of need and fee though, and I have visions of a student doing their homework and scrubbing their back in the tub at the same time! Your rhyming was mostly good though, and it has a good, fast rhythm and sprightly tone! Well done.

This poem is really good. It made me laugh, it's so true. We owe everything to google! How did you come up with such an original idea? It's preeeetty smart-I like it a lot!

Your rhyming was excellent and had quite a choppy quirky pace which fitted in with the whole idea. Yo must have really thought of everything when you decided to post this.
:))

The words flowed well and your sense of humour was jumping of the page. I think you did a really good job of capturing how much google does for us and how much we depend on it.

Well done, another amazing work. This deserves to be featured-you made me smile.. :))

I love this poem, you are one of the first persons to have a steady rhythm! You should read this out loud to yourself. It sounds so good, rather like a Dr. Seuss like rhythm - It's amazing! This is really cute. You chose a topic that everyone can relate to and that you know about. I see all the time when people try to write about things they have never experienced, like love when they've never been in love, or war when they've never fought. I know I sound like I'm rambling but I really do love this poem.

I'm quoting my half-awake twelve-year-old sister to start off with: "Whoever wrote that should send that in!" ;)

This is was so.. perfect (and yes, I tend to use this word a lot- But I seriously mean it!) in every way, shape, and form. I absolutely love Google, as most people do, so this immeadiately caught my eye. It was witty, flowed really well, and was just an all around fun poem to read.

To all of you writers or stylists of hair.

This was my favorite part. It was a very quirky, Dr. Seuss-like thing to add. It explained the range of Google users in a very cute way.

Flawless.

Awesome to see something a bit on the lighter side, I like to see randomness at times and this was definitely it! Could totally see this becoming a song sung by a ukulele player (don't ask).

Yeah, yeah, rhymes can sound forced but in this instance it adds to the little quirky charm of this poem and makes it that more lovable in my opinion. And besides, everybody seems to like it regardless! :D

Hi Evi ^^ Shina here ;) I'm back to review this one.

Lucky you, there's not much to review! (oh shoot! I'm speaking in rhyme now)

It's true though Ev, this poem is really catchy. Everything seems like a rhyme in my head now, it's kind of cool. You're a really good poet (and possibly writer once I get to your short stories and novels). I know you're sensitive about age, but I hear you. I'm thirteen on this site, so just a year or possibly less older than you xD But to be honest, some of the younger ones here on YWS surpass the works of the older YWS members. As young writers, we have all these fresh ideas. We still see the world in color unlike adults whose color vision begins fading to gray. I want you to keep that color vision like I hope to also ;) And if people laugh at the random, well I have a mustache poem in my portfolio and I'm not afraid to pull it up next to yours!!

Now onto your poem. The rhyme scheme is really catchy as I said, and since a lot of other people got most of the other things in this poem, I haven't much else. But I can say the flow in this poem was a lot better than the butterfly poem. The words connected!

*gold star*

Great to see another poem that isn't depressing. This reminds me a lot of Dr Seuss, which is great for you because he's one of the only poets I know of who actually made real money from poetry. The so called "Forced rhymes" are part of the humour as far as I'm concerned.

What you say about Google is so true, it's something we all take for granted, but its almost vital to everyday life.

However, a few things I'd like to point out:

My heart goes to Google

Here, the last line breaks the rhythm; it's too long. Maybe just take out the 'just'. :)

You come from the heavens,

search engine on high.

Type in any old word,

and results reach the skies!

'Type in any old word' sounds a bit awkward. I think it's a bit too short.

To all of you writers

or stylists of hair.

You probably out that 'stylists of hair' just to make it rhyme, and it shows. Then again, the rhyme works, so let's be grateful about that. ;)

These are a few of my favourite things:

The rhythm was lovely and felt incredibly natural. You seem like the kind of person who can just come up with stuff like this on the spot.
One thing (and I'm not even sure if I'm correct), but I think there were a few punctuation errors.
I'm not going to point those out because I fail epically at punctuation...especially when it comes to poetry.

You are truely talented to be able to write a poem about google. Your rhymes didn't sound forced, except for maybe one line. The one about the kid who dropped his homework in the bath sounded forced. Other than that great job. You certainly conveyed emotion. :) Good luck with your writing.
