Chapter Three
Carriage wheels rattled over the cobblestone road, the clop of metal horse shoes adding to the persistent song floating along on the wind. I passed under the warm glow of the street lamp as I neared the door. My gaze flickered around the street, looking for unwanted, watching eyes.
I darted over and opened the door swiftly. A slight tremor rolled through my body. My jacket was no match for the chill that seeped in, drenching my bones in foreboding. I saw them both standing there, their auras burning and swirling around each other. Hers oozed like black goo and made me shudder involuntarily, whilst his broke through her darkness in bursts of light that were almost too bright and warm to be near.
“I see you finally made it. I was starting to think you wouldn’t show.” The demon spoke, her voice carried a strange accent and I could almost detect a hiss in her voice.
It seemed strange, how could someone so beautiful be something so dark. Walnut brown curls that touched her delicate shoulders, her eyes looked like black pools of rippling water. She was tall and slender, the tone of her porcelain skin was set off by the floor length dress she wore. It cascaded to the floor in ruffles of black silk while the sleeves belled out elegantly and the bodice hugged her curves tightly in all the right places. Her aura formed the shape of a jagged dragon’s tail, black mist rolled off it in waves, an ice blue seemed to mix with the midnight whirl, creating an eerie cocktail of sharp spikes and bold edges.
“He isn’t actually late, he’s right on time. And just because you’re cynical and never show up to things unless someone forces you doesn’t mean everyone’s like that, Jesette.” The Angel spoke softly, warmly; it was like being caressed by sunlight and feathers.
I studied the Angel, Ezra, and was surprised. I expected him to be more …. light. His dirty blonde hair was tied back with a velvet red ribbon that matched his silk waistcoat. His eyes were a vibrant blue that seemed to glow a luminous white. But if it weren’t for his eyes and aura I would never had guessed that he was an Angel. His aura was very Angel, the wreath that sat proudly on his head was all white leaves and gold thorns that shone brightly against the pure white, spearing her darkness with sharp pinpricks.
“Look, believe it or not, I don’t actually want to be here. So if we could make this quick?” I gave them both an unimpressed look, because I was being a hundred percent honest. Being a Mercenary Hunter I didn’t worship or even care about the two standing in front of me.
“You entertain me, but as you wish.” Jesette gave a small laugh as Ezra nodded his head in agreement and pulled out a ceremonial dagger. I shoved my wrist forward, just wanting to get out of there.
“Ah-uh-uh, little Hunter. There is no way you’re going first, no matter how much I may like you.” Jesette slapped my arm away and turned hers over so the delicate skin of her wrist was exposed to the blade.
Ezra moved the blade with quick succession and sliced her skin with a deep cut. Black blood welled slowly and began to trickle down in a small crimson flow, it pooled at the end of her fingers and dripped to the floor in thick, fat drops.
The knife got passed over, now in Jesette’s delicate hands, she twirled the blade in her hands, watching as her blood flew off into the air, the darkness swallowing it whole. She smiled at me, flicking the blade with a slash and the next thing I knew blood was running down my arm in a steady, crimson stream.
She flipped the blade over and gave me a look of admiration as I reached for the knife and plucked it from her hands. I spun on my heel and I now faced Ezra, his luminescent eyes shining through the shadowy darkness. His arm raised to meet the blade, I moved my wrist and cut into his arm, just like the rest of us. A golden fluid began to form at the gash on his wrist, it swelled and leaked down his arm, leaving a glowing trail on his skin.
“There, we are now complete the ceremony, now all and any human that is cut with this blade will contain many attributes from our three species. They will have control over phenomenal strength and speed, they will have smarts of an exceptional standard, they will be devious like I, they will all share such a beauty like you, Ezra and finally like you, my little Hunter friend, they will have a skilful mind, ready to fight and defend. Let us hope that they can fend off what’s coming for us all.” Jesette spoke clearly her voice easily heard, “good bye, Little Hunter, until we meet again. And we will meet again.” She nodded her head in recognition of Ezra, there was a rustle of material and then she was gone.
“Well this has been fun and all but, I think I’ll take my leave now. That is of course if you don’t need me for anything else, Ezra?” I asked politely, though we both knew that I was leaving now – regardless of what he said.
“Of course, Adrian.” I nodded my head in acknowledgement, I may not have given a damn about Angels or Demons, but I sure didn’t want to be a pile of ash on the dusty floor. As I turned for the door I saw Ezra place the knife on the ground delicately, I walked out the door without looking back one more time.

Hi! Okay so I think this was really good and I really liked it! Also, like Sherri said it reminds me of the Black Butler as well. (I don't know why though) You did really good with this piece and I really like how you described everything. The details and description were very well-written. You had very good structure as well as content. (this is a really cool idea, cant wait to read more!!!) I didn't find many errors in here and so I don't think I really need to address them.
But anyway, I think you did really good and you just need to keep up the good work!!
THANKS!! I'm glad you've enjoyed it! Just incase you didn't know I've posted quite abit...
Hey!

This... was really good! I don't know why, but it reminded me of Black Butler (it really shouldn't, but I'm currently obsessed with the show, so it make sense XD ) You have an interesting writing style, a nice imagination, and use very good imagery. As soon as I read about the female demon, I was hooked. Usually, most 'demon types' are male, in my experience, aside from in my own writing, so this was refreshing!
Okay, on to nitpicks. I noticed a common mistake you made throughout the chapter. I won't drown you with correction after correction, but I will point out two to give you an idea:
"It seemed strange, how could someone so beautiful be something so dark." The comma should be replaced by a semicolon or somehow separated into different sentences. I actually missed the 'could' the first time I read it because I wasn't expecting it, given the comma separation. However, the sentence made no sense, so I went back and reread it and noticed why I completely jumped over the word
Another would be: "I nodded my head in acknowledgement, I may not have given a damn about Angels or Demons..." This comma should also me a semicolon or separated into two sentences. The comma disrupts flow and gives the sentence a blocky feel, and creates the feeling of a run-on as the sentence progresses. I think a semicolon would fix it up--or turning it into separate sentences--but it's entirely up to you, as the writer.
I think that's it; I'm a fast reader, so I may have missed something, but I think you're good. This was very interesting and entertaining for me, leaving me with feeling of wanting to know more. Double thumbs-up!
I added it to my list of stories to come back to when I have time... man, this list keeps getting bigger XD
Thank you so much!! I'm glad you liked this, to be honest I didn't know how people would react to this chapter, it being the third chapter and it going back in time. Some people find that very annoying and will stop reading. But I thought it might have helped explain a few things further...
I do that a bit - the thing with the comma's. I'm trying to work on it, but I'll be sure to go back over and fix those few things up. Thank you for pointing it out.
Thank you again and I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter!
