A/N A long overdue chapter! I had writer's block for a long time but just had the most brilliant idea! I am very pleased I (finally) wrote a long chapter.
BANG!
"God, Heimdall!" Hel yelled.
"Yes, thank you for noticing," said Heimdall, staggering out of the room covered in soot. "I may have added a bit too much potassium to that."
"Never mind potassium," she snapped. "Did you get it working?"
"Does it look like it?" Heimdall gestured to the smoke wafting out of the room. "I guess science and magic don't mix."
We'd been trying to mix a potion that would help us identify the intruders at Helheim, but so far had only succeeded in blowing up Heimdall's laboratory.
"What have you done now?"
We all jumped and whirled around. Standing behind us with an amused look on her face was Aisha, the head Valkyrie.
"I can explain," I said quickly. "We were-"
"Save your breath, Loki. I won't tell on you. But seriously, what were you trying to do?"
Hel fished in her pocket and pulled out a photograph of the two interlopers. One looked like a bit of a nerd - blond mad-professor hair, big glasses, scruffy T-shirt and blue denim jeans. The other had dark brown skin, neat black hair, a grey raincoat, black trousers and looked like a professional basketball player. He towered over the other boy.
"I'm guessing you know about what happened. Heimdall Einstein here thought he could try and identify them."
Aisha examined the photo and laughed. "Well, will you look at that. It's a small world after all?"
"What do you mean?" I said.
"Remember I was telling you about my friend in Midgard, Abby Carson? The one with the python?"
We all nodded.
"Well, this is her brother." She tapped mad-professor boy. "His name's Milo."
"You're joking," I said.
"No I'm not," Aisha protested. "I swear on Gungnir, that's who he is. And the tall one is Jason something. He's in my history class."
Hel looked like she was about to burst with excitement. "Aisha, you're amazing! Come on, Loki, we need to track them down."
"This seems like too much of a coincidence," Heimdall mutters. "I mean, what are the chances of that happening?"
"Who cares as long as it saves me?" Hel laughed. "Let's go!"
***********************************************************************************
Three hours later, Hel and I were standing on a deserted street in Midgard.
Hel had changed into her formal robes. She was wearing a long black dress and a black cape fastened by a purple brooch. A silver tiara perched on her head and she was carrying a long, twisted wooden staff with a red jewel at the top. She looked different. More powerful.
She smiled at me. "Ready? I've put a spell on this road. Nobody apart from our intruders will come down it until we've dealt with them."
I was about to say something when I heard voices. I grabbed Hel's arm and pulled her behind a wall.
Two boys came round the corner. One was short and scruffy and the other was ridiculously tall for a boy in Year Nine.
"I can't believe Louise," the scruffy one, Milo, was saying.
"I know! She's so irritating," his companion replied. "We got our own back though. I put a spider in her pencil case."
Milo burst out laughing. "That must have been the screaming I heard. What did she do?"
"She put her hand in to get something and it crawled onto her hand. You'd have loved it, it was hilarious. She shook it off and it landed in Taylor Matthews' hair. She went mad and Miss Ross had to calm them both down."
"Did you get in trouble?"
"Nah, nobody guessed it was me."
I exchanged a glance with Hel. Now.
We sprang out in front of the boys. Milo screamed and brandished a banana at us. Jason nearly fell over in shock.
"Milo Carson and Jason Something," my sister declared in a grand voice. "You have committed a terrible crime and for that you must be punished."
Impressive, I thought.
"We're sorry!" Milo yelped. "We didn't mean to do it! We were just exploring."
Jason glared at him. "What did I say about denying everything?"
"Your words will not save you now," Hel said, clearly enjoying herself.
"We deny everything," Jason stated.
I hid a smile.
Milo was slowly edging backwards, trying to make a run for it.
"Uh-uh." Hel pointed the staff at him. The jewel on the top glowed suddenly and a burst of white light shot out. It hit the pavement behind Milo with a bang. Milo yelped and leapt forward.
Hel smiled wickedly. "Come quietly and your punishment will be milder. There's no escape."
Jason looked her in the eye. "Are you sure?"
He flung up his arms and there was a loud BOOM. Smoke billowed from where he was standing and we were momentarily blinded.
When the smoke had cleared, the pavement was empty.
The boys had gone.

Specifics
1. I find it odd that after finding out the intruders are people Aisha knows that she doesn't ask if she knows more about them. Like what kind of people they are or why they might be here etc.
Overall
So pretty much no line by line comments on this one but it was a very short chapter. I think at the moment not enough happens to make this interesting. I liked the very beginning with the magic experiment and the follow up that magic and science don't mix and it might have been interesting to explore the attempts further before they find out who the two intruders are. I also think that should be harder. It's fun that you admit it's a coincidence but that still makes it feel like it's a bit too easy. I'd like to see them try a few different things first.
The tone is light and fun and that's nice but a little more description and plot would really help. I think maybe you could have introduced Aisha better as well - I'm not entirely sure what a head Valkyrie is or what she would have had to do to get to that position but at the moment she's not convincing me. She's obviously not dutiful since she's willing to keep the twins' secret so perhaps we need to be told that she's a great fighter or that she accomplished some amazing deed. I feel like I'm meant to find her impressive but at the moment she seems like your average teenage girl. It's also clear she went to school with the twins so she can't be very old.
Just a few thoughts for now! See you at the next chapter
~Heather
Thanks! Aisha has a hidden past we find out more about in the next chapters
Hey Danni88! Happy Review Day
I haven't read the first chapter, so I apologise in advance if it interferes with my review!
-The first thing I noticed is that I have no idea where they are. All it says is that they're in Heimdall's laboratory, but what does it look like?
Out of curiosity, if she's the head Valkyrie, who would she be 'telling on'? Odin?
-This might sound a little odd, but I get the feeling that Aisha is fairly new as head Valkyrie, or she hasn't earned much respect? How she has to defend herself after identifying Milo and Jason, and how Heimdall doesn't seem to believe that she has identified them. Of course, I don't know much backstory, and that might be exactly what you were going for! I just thought it was worth mentioning
On a critical note, I think 'Jason said' would sound better here, but that's personal choice. On a positive note, I like this line! I'm on board for this humour <3
Why would he ask her this if he was just going got teleport right after? Also, you might want to combine these two lines, since it's not clear at first who the 'he' is referring to (not necessarily because it's hard to connect Jason as the last one to perform an action, but because it's separated by a new line and makes me think it's someone else flinging their arms around)
-There isn't a great balance in this chapter. You have a lot of dialogue and little description. I mean this in the way that I can't get a picture for the characters, what they're doing/how they're reacting, what the setting looks like, etc. For future reference, editing and/or future drafts, I'd try to balance the two out more. I know it isn't easy, but it's something to keep in mind
-I don't know if this is what you were going for, but I really like the light-heartedness of the whole chapter. Sure, there's some underlying tension (with whatever Hel is referring to about saving herself? I assume that was in the last chapter), but it's still an upbeat mood, and it fits in well with your writing. (It makes me think a little of Rick Riordan's style?)
That's all I've got for you today! I hope you can find something helpful in there
I hope you have a wonderful day
*explodes in delight at the comparison to Rick Riordan* THE GREATEST COMPLIMENT!! THANK YOU!!
This is pretty darn neat if I do say so myself, which I do. Let's dive into this work of art shall we. What's that? You don't know who I am? Well I am Boluk, god of writing terrible stories and bad grammar. Anyway let's get straight to the review. This work can be described as the exact opposite to a set of dominoes because whereas it only takes one object to go a little bit off course to cause everything to tumble and eventually fall out of control into a spiraling mess, and this story seems to be setting off some of that sweet, sweet, and I do mean sweet character development which I love. And so far everything seemed lovely....until the problem began to arise. At first I only noticed it a little bit but overtime it became unbearable. What is this problem you ask? Well it can be near perfectly described in two words: Slow Pacing! maybe It's because I didn't read the past chapter but I have a belief that each chapter should be thought of as it's own thing. First we start off with Who I assume to be Loki talking to Hel and then they talk, and talk, and talk. It's good for world building and character development Which is fine and all mind you, I just kind of feel like it shouldn't be so loooonggg and maybe it should be cut down just a bit. Keep in mind this is all my personal opinion and is not designed to offend you in any way. In conclusion this story is pretty awesome it just needs a bit more work around the edges okay? (You have no idea how hypocritical I felt writing that just now) So yeah work hard and keep going strong man. I rate this story 4 and a half Hels out of 5! ( I said that right didn't I?
Thanks!
