Oblivious Hearts: Chapter 3

                                                     CHAPTER 3

"The craft will now land in a few minutes. We request the passengers to be seated and buckle up your seat belt. All electronics must be switched off and bags back to the storage space given. Thank you."

I woke up to the announcements given by the cabin crew. I found myself sleeping on Tyler's shoulder, my hair all over my face. I sat up, startled at myself. How did that happen? It cannot be! I looked at Tyler who was smiling. He was having a cup of hot coffee on his hand when the airhostess, passed us. 

“Excuse me!” he called up to her.

“May I help you, sir?” she asked.

“Yes, please. A cup of hot coffee for the lady here with the sugar not too high.”

“Right away, sir.”

She walked away to get me it, and I looked embarrassed as ever. I started to blush badly in front of him and then turned to look at the window. I could see a bit of the land. I noticed it slightly drizzling. I smiled to that sight.

“Slept well?” Tyler asked me.

I looked at him.

“Oh! Yes. Yes.” I said, and cleared my throat. “It was… peaceful.” I said, shaking my head and smiled to him.

“That’s good to know.”

“I’m… Sorry for the goofiness I did. I didn’t mean to! I’m so sorry.”

“Hey! That’s fine. I’m slightly shocked by the way you were sleeping even after Tiya tried her best to wake you up.”

For a second, I looked uncomfortable there. The airhostess came up to me with my coffee. I thanked her for the kind favour and turned to Tyler. I thanked him too for the generosity he did for me. He nodded and I sipped on to my coffee, feeling so much better after what I’d done. I buckled myself, as the Cabin Crew made one last announcement that we were to land now.

Tiya had fetched our luggage and we were now about to leave the airport. We stood outside and I had switched on my black berry, and punched in some letters to send Annie that we had reached London. I was looking for a Cab when Tyler came running towards us.

“No, no! You’re not looking for a taxi. I’ll drop you on the way home. Come on.” He said, gently gripping up to our luggage and leading us the way to his car.

He had a white, shiny BMW. I never knew he was so rich but I couldn’t do this anymore. He’s been so kind; I don’t even know what I’ve ever done for him.

“No, Tyler. We can’t. We’ve already created lots of trouble for you and I apologize for that. We’ll just find our way down here. It’s no big deal. I’m sure my Grandma’s house isn’t so far from here!” I told him.

He shook his head, and grabbed me by my wrist. Tiya was taken aback by the action done. She followed us till his car as; Tyler opened the back door for us.

“Here you go. That space is for you. And who said about being troubled? There was no trouble at all! Now sit back, and relax.” He told us.

We got in and right away gave in the address to the driver. Tiya was stunned to see what was inside. They car was waiting with two glasses of lemonade, which was Tiya’s favourite! The doors had small golden lights, which wasn’t to be seen until dark. The seats were all leather and they had a T.V. screen on the top. I had never gone in such a rich, luxurious vehicle! It was my first time apart from the limo organized by the school for our Farewell, of course.  

Tyler closed the door for us and slipped in through the front seat. He was talking to the driver in Italian. That was weird. I never thought there were Italian drivers in London. Tiya didn’t take too much notice of it and was staring at me, waiting for a reply. I looked back at her and then snapped back to reality.

“Oh… Sorry, you were saying?” I asked Tiya.

“I said if I could please borrow some of his lemonade? I’m really thirsty.” She said, rolling her eyes.

“Ask Tyler. It’s his car, his permission.”

Tiya tapped on my ex-boyfriend’s shoulder. To my surprise, somewhere in my body, I felt annoyed. Like some electric wave passed me. How can that be? After all, we’re long over and we can never get back together, ever. I did something bad to him, and he can never have the courage to trust me. Tyler looked back at Tyler with his glistening eyes.

“If you don’t mind, could I borrow some lemonade? It’s my favourite! You have no idea how much I love these kind of things!” Tiya said, getting slightly excited.

“Why, of course. Those drinks are for you. You must try it. It’s the classiest way of showing off your generosity.” He replied.

Tiya smiled wide and grabbed the drink before anyone could stop her. She gulped it all down her throat, and sat back, relaxing herself. I stared at her in amusement. I started to wonder if I actually knew her! That she was actually my twin sister. Tyler looked pretty amused too and we both looked at each other. Not before long, the car started to move and I realised they had picked out our luggage and stored it safely behind the car.

“I can’t wait! Grandma makes one of the best cookies ever! I wonder if she’s making them today. I would die to have one, wouldn’t you, Flo?” Tiya asked me.

“I know! I can just smell them from here!” I said, as excited as her.

We had reached our Grandma’s place in a few minutes. It wasn’t too far from the airport. We got out from the car, and the driver who was so kind helped us with our luggage. Tyler came up to us, his smile so calm.

“Well. I guess we’ll be meeting up soon. Maybe in the evening?” Tyler said.

I looked at him and raised my eyebrows. I knew he was joking. “Yeah, right. See you! Thanks for the ride!”  I said, running to the house.

“See you later, NEIGHBOUR!” he yelled back to me.

I stopped.

Neighbour? 

I slowly turned around to face him. Tiya was already inside our house with our luggage and she waited impatiently for me to come in.

“Neighbour? You’re our neighbour?” I asked him.

Grandma Deliria came to me, happy as ever. She hugged me tight and I returned the favour. She turned to face Tyler and waved at him. She went down and gave him a light hug. Tyler smiled and waved back at us.

“You’ve met Tyler already? He’s been a real sweetheart. He’s the only man I could find to help me with so many things.” Grandma said.

“Really? Well, Flora and Tyler have known each other for a long time! We met him in the plane! Somehow, he had booked my seat before but something went wrong with the system that they couldn’t reserve the seat.” Tiya spoke and went on. “Then, they came to me and told me I had to move because it was Tyler’s seat and blah, blah! Grandma, did you know, Flora was Tyler’s e—“

Before she could spill out everything, I snatched Tiya by her mouth. Grandma looked at us like we were insane, and shot one of her eyebrows up. I looked back at Tyler with wide eyes and signalled him to say something. Thankfully, he had got the message.

“So, Aunt Deliria.” He says and clears his throat. “Why don’t you take your granddaughters inside, and treat them with some of your delicious cookies? They were just talking about it in the car.”

“Oh, yes! Tiya, I changed the recipe a bit. I decided to make something special. Do taste it after you take a nice hot bath, okay?” Grandma asked.

Tiya ran back up to the house, followed by me and Grandma. I waved back one last time back to Tyler and went in, closing the door quietly. I turned to see the house in such a beautiful position. I remember coming here when I was really small and all those memories I had left behind. But it wasn’t this pretty that time. Somehow, I had a magical feeling but suddenly, I felt a strong energy passing through me. I got shrills for a second, and then made my way to my room. We had told Grandma that Tiya and I wouldn’t be sleeping in separate rooms because we’re not really used to it. That day, Grandma had made such a fuss saying that Dad had pampered us too much and it would be hard for us in future. I don’t get it.

Tiya had already caught her part of the room, and deposited her luggage in a corner. I caught the bed next to the window, so the breeze would flow past me during my peaceful sleeps. We had one computer which wouldn’t be of too much use since; both of us had bought our laptop. Tiya felt into her bed, hugging one of the pillows. I pinched her slightly on the hand.

“Ouch! What was that for?” She asked.

“Firstly, for almost spilling out that Tyler was my ex-boyfriend! Second, we only have one washroom in this room, so I’m going to take a bath now. If you want to go, you can use the one just outside our room.” I said.

I opened my shiny, navy blue luggage and carefully searched for my towel, not wanting to mess up my neatly folded clothes. I finally found it and grabbed a black trouser and a white top. I walked to my bathroom door and opened the polished golden handle. It felt nice to be in a different house, all the responsibilities handed over to you. I felt independent. I got in and slipped into the tub, and turned on the shower. I closed my eyes and smiled as the water droplets trickled down my face.
