Writer's Block

I stare at the screen.

Blank.

I stare at the paper.

Blank.

I twirl my pencil.

My mind is blank.

I doodle on my paper.

I cannot think.

This disease.

It controls me..

Eureka!

I have cured it!

My fingertips dance across the keyboard excitedly.

This disease is writer’s block.

And I have cured it with this poem.

I really like your repetitions and the short sentences, it gives the poem some life if you know what I mean. It is also really, really good how you included completely relatable and reasonable actions in here like doodling on your paper. When you included the language of "Eureka!", I felt that it was totally how someone would react to their good idea (if they normally reacted like this). Each line is very meaningful to the piece, and I wouldn't change a thing. Good job! :D (sorry for only fluff)

Thanks! It's alright, everyone needs a LITTLE fluff. In fact,I ran out. This is great, now I can make a fluffernutter sandwich!

Hey there! Here to review as requested. Just a warning, I'm not the best at poetry reviews so this could be a whole lotta garble on my part. I will try to be as useful as possible. :-)

I thought your short, snappy sentence/lines were super effective here. While some poems are lyrical, this felt very rhythmic and a bit stacatto. Which was really fantastic, in my opinion, because you conveyed everything that needed to be said in a way that felt crisp and refreshing. Oh dear, now I'm thinking of lettuce...

Back on topic, I thought the start of the poem was a bit stronger than the end, even just cos it had this real BAM BAM kind of sense to it, if you get what I mean. The third last line about 'fingertips dancing across...' was cool, and I liked the imagery it portrayed, I just wasn't sure whether it quite fit with the rhythm of the rest of the poem.

Great job, and a very enjoyable read.

Thank you! And I'm glad my poem reminds you of lettuce, I LOVE lettuce :D

You're welcome. :-) Glad to know you appreciate the lettuce thing. My brain goes on weird tangents sometimes.

I thought this was really nicely done. Usually I'm not a fan of poetry, but this was great!

I think you should take out the word Eureka! It just seems a bit- overdone. The rest of the poem flows very nicely.

Like everyone already said, no grammar errors.

I thought your "disease" was a nice analogy. Altogether, I thought this was very nice, and I'd like to see more of your poetry.

When the heck did you write this. I do not recall this. Anyway, thanks, and no you will never see my poetry again.

I always get SO ANNOYED WHEN YOU SAY THAT! WHY ARE YOU SO AFRAID OF ME READING YOUR STUPID WRITING? WHAT'S SO WRONG WITH ME, AND CHLOE, AND EVERYONE ELSE WHO WANTS TO READ ALL OF YOUR WRITING? WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE THIS STUPID AND MEAN? EVERY TIME YOU SAYS THIS I JUST BOTTLE UP HOW PISSED I GET BUT NO, I JUST WANT TO READ WHAT YOU WRITE. WHY IS THAT SO BAD?

*whispers from behind couch where I hid when you started ranting* it sucks trust me you don't want to read it *trembles*

Sylar replied · Apr 23, 2014

I want to. Okay? Can't just READ SOME and let me make the decision if I like it or not?

*whimpers* no *crawls away, covering my face from the verbal attack that is sure to come*

Sylar replied · Apr 23, 2014

WHY

*curls up into a ball* BECAUSE

Sylar replied · Apr 23, 2014

Seriously Alanna, I just want to read some. Not YWS, not Writing Class, just me. Please. I don't care if its bad.

OH MY GOD IF I SHOVED MY VILLANALLE IN YOUR FACE WOULD THAT BE OK

This was an awesome poem. Every line fits perfectly. I like the blank lines, then I am someone who doodles, so that is something I relate to as well.

My fingertips dance across the keyboard excitedly.

I love that line, because I do that when I'm about to write. I slide my fingers all over the keyboard and listen to the little click of the keys. And the last line is the perfect touch to end the poem. I didn't see any errors. Great job.
Keep it up!

Hello :).

Awesome name for a poem!! I can't count how many times I've been hit with writer's block. Stuck dealing with it now as a matter of fact lol! I like how you pretty much captured how we all feel when we get stuck. I didn't see anything grammatically wrong with this poem at all. Good Job!

Thanks! I'm kind of a Grammar Nazi, so I made sure there were no mistakes.

Great Title and a great poem. It is a simple and a easy poem . Easy for people to understand. You started off saying that at first the mind is blank and all that but a writer's mind should never be blank.
In the second part Yes you have covered it saying soon that your fingertips start dancing across the keyboard. It needs a few more edits here there. Overall This poem be great!
KEEP WRITING----

I know the feeling of a writers block. I struggled to write a story or even a proper poem for over a year. For a while I thought I almost lost my writing abilities. But eventually as I looked around my surroundings and interacted with new people and maybe even developed a crush on somebody. I realized that my literary abilities had not gone anywhere. They just stayed in a state of dormancy for a year.
It took me a whole month off college and a terrible illness to realize that writing is what kept me going when I was at a low. So a bit of boredom and a whole lot of motivation got me going again.
I started writing more freely and frequently after my dormancy. nevertheless I'm glad I was back.

I just realized that I blabbered on and on about my writers block shamelessly while I was here to review your poem.
Well I bet you would have figured out that I liked it and that I connected so well with it that I blabbered on like the true narcissist I am.
Here I go again talking about myself.

I liked your poem. Keep up the good job.

Regards
Anouk

That's exactly something I wanted to write few days ago. I mean, exact concept of your poem. That's why I like it. Anyway, I'd change only one line:

"This disease is IN THE writer’s block. "

Or something like that. It would make the imagery more exciting, but it's just a suggestion, I'm not here to interfere with your poeting.
I'm glad I found someone who had almost the same idea as me. I used to stare at the "word" file for few minutes to start writing something like that. Now I can't post it :D But that's okay.
I wouldn't write it as good as you did. That was beautiful and meaningful at the same time. I hope I'll read more from you, keep writing!

~Bard.

Thank you for writing this! That's a great idea, I'll change that line now. And since I know you're not copying me, feel free to post yours! I'd love to read it. Thanks again!

Hi dominusatramentum, here is Dark to review your poem :D

First of all,I love the point you want to show up here.It is all ever happened to me too,and I think you doing a great job here! But the words you use is just too familiar,I wish you can replace it with something more poetic to describe the meaning here.Element of repetition here, seems dull and just ruining your wonderful piece of poem here.

# I stare at the screen.

Blank.*

I stare at the paper.

Blank. *

Anyway,I love this line:
~My fingertips dance across the keyboard excitedly. --This is poetic.
Overall, you already have a good poem here.Just need some more improvement.Keep it up, Good job!
kudos
~Dark.

Thanks so much! I'll definitely take everything you said into account. :)

Well that works just fine. I just read or lay my head down and form a dream. Then when I wake my writers block is cured!

I should try that sometime!

This is really cute! It's short and sweet, and it totally describes how all writers feel. Nice first work :D
