Dontae's Battle with the Past Chapter 5

Note: This is my attempt at using a lot of detail, because that is my weakness. Any comments to improve or fix anything is appreciated very.

Chapter 5

I was walking through the empty streets of the town, and was completely confused on what I saw. How could this be? A town could not just have the townspeople completely vanish without any kind of battle. I looked around once again, when I heard a voice behind me.
“Get up!” it shouted. I did an about face immediately to see who was there to see that no one was there.
“Whose there?” I asked shakily. Was this town haunted? I looked around quickly trying to find the source of the voice.
“Get up!” it repeated. The town began to shake violently around me. The next event took me by surprise. The town was beginning to dissolve while leaving nothing behind. My face abruptly burned as if I was slapped. “Get up!”
My eyes opened and I saw Veronica leaning over me. My senses slowly returned from the disorientation of the dream, and the first thing I smelled was smoke.
“What’s going on?” I demanded to know sitting up quickly. The trees surrounding us were ablaze. I began to cough as I inhaled some of the smoke.
“Blow the smoke away!” Madison shouted before a coughing fit took over her body. She was doubled over and it seemed like she was coughing up her lungs.
“No! Don’t-!” Kevin started to shout, but was already too late. Whatever warning he was about to give came a second too late.
The wind started to blow to smoke away. However, when the wind hit the flames, the flames grew from the oxygen. The heat coming from the fire was intense. The fire seemed to be closing in on us.
“Kevin! Veronica!” I shouted at them, hoping they would understand what I wanted them to do. If we didn’t find a way to put out these flames, the world would be destroyed. We had to escape this somehow.
Kevin nodded and closed his eyes. As he began to focus, a red aura enveloped him, and the flames began to flicker. Then something unimaginable happened. Kevin cried out in pain before flying into the flames. How could Kevin be defeated by fire, when he was fire?
A loud roaring filled the air and I looked at Veronica to see her also focusing. Mist had enveloped her as she focused on the water in the lake. Behind her was a giant wave of water that was taller than the trees.
I looked at James who nodded. If we didn’t escape this wave, we were dead. James placed his hands on the ground and the ground shook slightly, and it was almost unnoticeable. After a few seconds, the ground began to open up, and a pit formed.
“Everyone in!” I ordered grabbing my katana off the ground, and leaping in. Everyone but Veronica, who was as still as a statue, leapt into the pit. James touched one of the sides of the pit and the top began to close, but it was closing slowly. “Hurry!”
The giant wave crashed down on the trees, and started to fill up the pit. As the water reached my knees, the pit closed off and the water stopped. The ground above us shook from the force of the water. It was about ten minutes before James gave the all clear that we weren’t in danger from drowning. The pit opened up and sunlight filled the dark pit.
“We need to go check on Veronica and Kevin,” I said. Something was bothering me though. Whoever tried to burn us must have known that we had a water user, yet tried to use fire. If they knew, then why set fire to the forest. They caused complete chaos by doing that.
The bottom of the pit began to ascend and we stood above ground where the water had spread out till it was only about a foot high. I looked around and saw Veronica sitting down completely dry. Beside her was Kevin, who was staring blankly at the ground. I knew he was trying to piece this event together.
My danger sense spiked and I instinctively unsheathed my katana. I now knew why this had happened. The pieces came together at that moment.
“They were trying to tire us out,” I said. Kevin nodded as if he had come to the same conclusion. I began to look around hoping to see if I could find where they were going to come from.
“Make a circle and face outwards. This will let us see in each direction, without being surprised,” Kevin ordered us. Our feet hit the water as we rushed to form the circle. We stood in the circle, with weapons in hand, ready for an attack.
A gentle breeze began to blow, and sweat dripped off my face from just waiting. My palms became slippery as it rested on the hilt of my katana. The katana was oddly heavier than usual. What happened next was mind blowing.
Something landed in the center of our circle and lashed out. I was thrown forward and I hit a tree. My vision blurred and it slowly focused again. I sat there dazed. How did they know our plan? I looked to where we had stood and saw a mutated human.
This human had red dragon wings, scaly green skin, a dragon tail, and dragon claws. It looked as if a dragon had turned into a human. It looked at me and pulled out a throwing star. It took aim and launched the star at me. Before my body could respond to move, the throwing star hit me in the arm. I felt a warm feeling slowly spread through my arms and throughout my body.
“Why you,” I growled. I flinched as I jerked the throwing star out of my arm. I saw a purple stain on the tips of the star. Had I been poisoned? I stood up and held my katana in a shaky grip. Why was I so weak? Then my hope of defeating this thing went down the drain.
About sixty more of these monsters stepped out from the burnt trees around us. We were completely surrounded. I noticed they were all men, and had on black suits. Where did these monsters come from?
“The Rolk are a large group of Ruki,” I said surprising myself. Did I actually know these monsters? How did I know this name?
“The Rolk? What do mean?” Madison asked me confused. I looked to see her leaning against a tree weakly.
“I don’t know. The word came out of my mouth by itself,” I explained. I shook my head trying to clear my clouded mind. Why was everything becoming so clouded?
“It doesn’t matter what they are called. We just need to take them out, don’t we?” Veronica shouted. She stood next to James, and they both looked exhausted.
“Let’s finish this quickly!” Margaret shouted as she waved her katanas in the air. She looked unharmed. Maybe she softened her landing with the wind. She seemed ready to fight. Maybe this was a different Margaret.
“I could not agree more,” James said smiling. He punched his palm with his hand. He was always ready to fight.
“I’m astonished to say this, but, I agree with James. It’s time to fight back. We can’t allow ourselves to lose any more like we did to Runi,” Kevin said. His eyes were burning red, as if they were on fire.
“I couldn’t agree more!” I shouted smiling at my friends. This was our planet. No, this was our home. I focused on my power and summoned it. Instead of the usual warmth of my power activating, there was nothing. I felt empty.
A sharp pain pierced my head and I dropped my katana. I fell to my knees and held my head in my hands. A voice in my head was demanding to be let out, but was I imagining it. The world around me began to darken and I screamed painfully.
“Dontae!” everyone shouted. Kevin ran over and knelt beside me. As he reached for me, I slapped his hand away.
“Don’t touch me you filthy human,” I heard myself say. I looked to see I was looking at my body. Was I having one of them out-of-body experiences? I watched my next movements with fear. I watched as my body stood up with katana in hand. It held the blade towards the ground, and immense power came from my body.
Darkness erupted from my body, but this darkness was purple. Purple wings sprouted from my back and an evil aura enveloped me. The sky darkened, and it turned the day into night. The darkness began to clone the Rolk till double the previous stood there.
“D-Dontae?” James asked in a slightly muffled voice. Turning my head till I faced my friends, I watched myself smirk.
“Sorry? What was that? You want that little brat? He is unavailable at the moment, so please enjoy your final moments,” I said smiling. The area around us went silent. I could feel the tension in the air. I looked at the Rolk and frowned. “What are you doing?”
“We are waiting for your orders Master,” one stammered. It was the one that had thrown the throwing star.
“My orders? What do you think my orders are, huh? I want you to attack,” I yelled at them. I watched my body shake. Who had taken over my body? The wings on my back furled and unfurled with rage.
“Y-Yes sir!” it shouted snapping to attention and saluting. “Come on men! We must not fail the Young Master.” The Rolk launched their attack on my friends.
My friends were not afraid of the monsters, but of me. At first they just stood there, but their instinct took over. They launched their counter attack. The battle lasted for about five minutes and almost all the Rolk were destroyed, except for one hiding in the trees. My body nodded and a dagger flew out from where it stood.
A fireball flew and hit the Ruki and destroyed it, but was too late. The dagger pierced Veronica in the chest, and it went all the way in till it hit the hilt. My body seemed weakened as whoever thought they won. That was my chance.
I launched my spirit-like form at my body, and struggled to gain control. I managed to push the evil aura away somehow, and gained control of my body.
“Veronica!” I screamed.
