If I had called the leaders to accountability.

E - Everyone

In Peasant Souls on a Worthy Land

If I had called the leaders to accountability:

I would not be selling dog chains on the street

I would not be selling sachet water at car parks

Yes, I would not be selling handkerchief and toffees.

If I had called the leaders to accountability:

I would be seen as a citizen with vision

I would be seen to be patriotic

I would be seen as energetic

And not dependent.

If I had called the leaders to accountability

I would be now an entrepreneurial

I would be now creating and not only benefiting

I would be  now exporting and not only importing.

Of course, I would be now investing and not only saving

If I had called the leaders to accountability:

They would have seen me as a royal and not servant

They would have respected my future

They would have realized I am a resource and not a burden

Oh yes! I would have been working and not unemployed.

If I had called the leaders to accountability:

And now I am set to call them to accountability.

Hey! Tiana here for a review. As a quick disclaimer everything I say is to be taken with a grain of salt since I am by no means an expert, and these are all suggestions :) anyways!

This poem has great flow. This means it's really simple and easy to read and we don't have to think too hard nor process it too much in order to capture the essence of it.

The only thing I can recommend is some more variety.

Each line is so similar that they all blend together. Change your format, I know what you're giong for with the repetition but I believe it's doing a bit more harm than good.

But this is almost a ballad too, which I like. I can gather a storyline of someone who has so many regrets, so much potential to do better and be better, and yeah the narrator is just sorrowful about his place in the social heirachy due to the 'leaders' which I'm guessing are the presidents or members of parliament or something...

Overall, nice poem. Maybe separate them into stanzas so it's a bit easier to read next time :) - Tiana

Hello there. Sorry, I didn't see this poem before. But now I am here to review. And I hope to give a fair one.

First of all, I want to say that people should read such poems. People tend to enjoy love poems. But they forget that a writer's work is to wake the senses of society. Being a citizen of the largest democracy of the World, I can understand the loop holes in democracy, and also the corrupt Democrats. Let's get on the review.

The concept of the poem is clear, and so true. The title tells so much about the poem, which I like personally. I would have loved if you would have used commas wherever needed. It tells that the writer is serious about his work. I believe that 'handkerchiefs' would have been better than just 'handkerchief', and simply 'entrepreneur' would have done instead of 'entrepreneurial'. I can't understand the use of 'benefiting' (or did you mean benefitting?). I also believe that something like 'master' would be better than 'royal'. 'A' should come before 'servant'.

'Oh yes! I would have been working and not unemployed.
If I had called the leaders to accountability:
And now I am set to call them to accountability.'
I feel that the middle line should be in connection with the previous one rather than the next one. The last line is better as alone.

Overall, I really loved what you have conveyed through your poem. It's simple and meaningful. It stirs the mind of the reader. Although, I would love to see the same message delivered in a little complex way, or maybe in a rhythm, which will make it even better. But nonetheless, very good work. Keep it up!!!!
