My mom cringed at the old faded blood stain on the kitchen tiles.I smiled to myself, my bloodstain, the mark I left in society. My parents must have seen my smile, because they actually began to speak to me.
"Ivy,"My mom spoke softly. But I ignored her. I didn't want to hear what they had to say.
"Ivy," My dad rose his voice.
"What?" I didn't understand the sudden need for a conversation.
"Your mother and I are worried about you," He tried to sound civil.
"Oh, when have I heard that? In the morning when I wake up, before I go to sleep, when I come home from school..." I was really beginnig to get annoyed with their reminders of what I did. Everyone made mistakes. Right?
"Ivy, we're sending you away," My mother said rather quickly, she was fiddling with her fingers. She did that when she was intimidated. Was she intimidated by me?
I stopped in my tracks. "What? I mean, I heard you, but w-why?" What was going on?
"You need a fresh start, we need to clear our heads from..." My dad stared at the ground.
"From me. You guys need a break from me. Your daughter... So what better way than to send her away. Just like that..." I shouted, anger bubbling inside of me. I didn't understand why they just decided that they wanted me to go.
"Well Ivy, it's not everyday you hear your daughter has killed someone!" My mother never shouted. So she must of been really upset. A really sickening silence filled the room. It was way too loud.
"Where are you sending me?" I whispered, anger tears filling my eyes, I just wanted to throw something at them.
"To Reyland Academy. It's a great place, you'll make new friends, the term starts in three day, so you'll be leaving tomorrow and-" My mother seemed to be too excited about giving me away to a school.
"Save it. You know what? I'll go pack, it's not like I want to stay with you idiots anyway." I raced upstairs before they could say anything else. It hurt too much, everything they said cut me like a knife. I grabbed my suitcase set and began to pack. They were leaving me as if i were poison, poisoness Ivy. I sank to the floor once I endeared my room. Leaning against the wall, I looked into the great openness of my room. Thoughts filled my mind and, unfortunately, the memory of that awful night came forward.
The music was pounding to the beat of my heart. There was loads of people at this party, I thought. But, I felt alone in my own world, dancing to the hypnotic tune of the music. A voice sucked me back to reality.
"Ivy, come on. Lets get out of here." Ben called at me. His green eyes had a weird expression as he draped his arms round me. That's how he looked like lately. He always seemed to want to touch me. It was suffocating. I followed out of the party.
"Why, is something wrong?"
Ben climbed into his grey volvo. I climbed in after.
" I just want to be alone. With you."
The ride home was silent. I didn't want to speak to him. I knew what he meant by alone and I wasn't ready, couldn't he understand.
We pulled up at my house. There were no cars in the driveway. Ben smiled. He'd hit the jackpot, and his prize, my virginity. As we entered my house, Ben went to the kitchen and pulled out a bottle of wine. He brought it to the living room where I was sitting. He began to drink it heavily. I glared at him. After many swings of wine, I knew he was drunk.
"What's that for?" He looked different, like a stranger. He started to approach me. I stood and pushed him away, as he put the wine down and tried to caress me.
"Ben, n-no. I don't want to-"
"Of course you do. I see that look in your eye." He was mumurring into my neck, becoming rougher.
"Ben! No. I don't want to." My pulse rate quickened, I was beginning to get a new feeling. I was scared. He was scaring me.
"You do! Come on Ivy, I've waited for so long. I was patient." He was forcing me, pulling me against him.
"No! Ben Please, Go home." I backed away into the kitchen.
"You've gone off me. Haven't you. You don't want me anymore! Who is it? Is it Reed? It's that little shit isn't it?"
"No, no. It's not. I swear." My voice was wobbling. I began to cry. He was drunk and dangerous.
"Why are you crying?!" He picked up the wine bottle and smashed it.
I ran into the kitchen, backing up into the sink.
"Why are you running, Ivy. You want me, I know you do. I neeed it. I need your body. Now!" He lunged himself at me. It all came too quick. I grabbed the nearest thing in the sink. I grabbed a knife from the sink and plunged a knife into his chest. Ben bega to puke and fell slowly to the ground. Blood was seeping through his body. I crouched down to where my boyfriend lay. I knew he was dead, but I still tried to bring him back. My hands were covered with blood, his blood. I was a murderer. I sat there rocking slowly to a song in my head until, evryothing came. My parents, the sirens, the police, the funeral, that I didn't even go to. My boyfriend was dead and I killed him. But I smiled. Because thats what I do.
I took a deep breath, as if being brought back into normal time. That was a horrible day. But the best day ever. I was free from his control and dominating glare and suffocating arms. Good riddance, I thought.
I went to my mother's room to take my favourite dark lipstick. As I went through her dresser, I came across three boxes with labels saying, 'Reyland Academy'. I picked one up and opened it. It contained a short pleated skirt, a white blouse, a red bowtie and red bowed, white knee-high socks and a burgundy blazer with a logo that looked like a phoenix. I threw the clothes into the box and called down to my mom.
"I'm bringing all the uniform!"
No reply.
After packing, I snuck out of the house, I had to see Ashleigh and tell her the dreadful news. She'd understand. She always did. As I approached our spot in the hills, I noticed she was already there.
"Hey," I called out, the breeze waving my mahogany hair about.
She turned around, her eyes were red and puffy with tears, "You're leaving?!"
I was stunned, I knew Ashleigh knew me, but how did she know? I went to the spot she was and sat beside her.
"Ash, how did you kno-"
"Your mom told my mom, but you never told me. After everything, I did for you! I stayed for you when y-you-" She was shouting at me too. She stood up and backed away from me.
"Yeah, can everyone stop just stop talking about what I did, okay?" I kicked a small stone at her.
Ashleigh began to walk away. " You don't care. You never cared. That's what's wrong with you Ivy! You look at things in your sick, twisted way. But you know what? Go! I won't care. It's not like you cared about me. Just do what Ivy wants,as always!"
Why was she acting like that?
"You think I want to go?! I didn't even know I was going till today! But I',m going because that's what my parents want me to do! They don't want me here. No one does!" I was crying. "NO ONE WANTS ME HERE SO I'M GOING!"
She turned around.
"You killed him Ivy!" Ashleigh was crying too.
"He was going to rape me, Ash. What was I supposed to do?" I sunk to my knees staring at her.
"Goodbye. Ivy." She whispered, as she began to walk away.
"Go, then!" My voice was breaking. I hated crying, it made me sick. I'm not the one that cries, I'm the one who watches people cry.
"Goodbye. Ash." I lay on the grass, the ground absorbing my tears. It began to rain. But stayed. I felt numb.
Ashleigh was moving forward. Without me.
So this was it.
I killed another thing.
And through the midst of things.
I smiled.
Because that's what I did, I smiled at misfortune.

Hi there!
So I read the prologue to this before and I was really excited to read more. You didn't disappoint. This I s a good chapter. I really enjoy the story and it's only just begun.
I wanted to point out this sentence because it's important. Now what makes this specific one so important you may ask. Well, it refers back to Ivy's crime from the past. So even if it's just simple sentence like this, it's going to mean something to Ivy and the reader. And I wanted to help you make it a bit clearer.
So right now, it's not...well, I don't know how to describe it. But I can give you a suggestion on how to make it flow better. It looks like you've just listed four things going on. We have her sitting on the floor, leaning against the wall, thoughts filling her mind, and then the memory of 'that awful night's comes to the front of her mind. This is how I suggest that you write this sentence: "I sank to the floor once I endeared my room. Leaning against the wall, I looked into the great openness of my room. Thoughts filled my mind and, unfortunately, the memory of that awful night came forward".
The sentence I wrote is like a sample for you to go off of. You could use it or write a different sentence on your own or you could leave your original sentence as is. The reason I wrote that was to get you thinking of another way that you could describe what's going on. The original sentence just seems a bit out of flow (ha! Finally figured out how to describe it) and I feel like you could make it better.
This is a fine sentence, but you never mentioned Ben touching her or anything. All he's done is come up behind her and talked to her. Maybe add something in there about how he dangled his arm around her shoulder or grabbed her hand and tried to pull her up. Just something that emphasizes the fact that he was being very touchy feely.
Also, in this little flashback, you don't mention Jake until he climbs into his car. You might want to mention him before that just so readers will know who he is.Never mind. It looks like you accidental wrote the name Jake instead of Ben.Overall I really enjoyed this chapter. Your character is definitely twisted
Everyone else has already commented on your grammar so I won't be repetitive. Onto the next chapter I go!
Keep writing!

I added your improvements and corrected the errors. Thanks for the review and chapter 2 is already out
I suggest that you work on spelling and grammar. I could see a couple typos here and there.
I like it, it's better than some books I've read. Like the "Maximum Ride" Series. Oh, my God, that series was terrible. There was a wavering plot, and the description of Max changed with every book.
I suggest you try to make a connection with characters. I was reading this book called "Boneshaker" and I did connect with the characters. I didn't feel any emotion. I sort of felt something with Ivy, and that's a compliment. It's good too feel something in the begining.
I did not read the prologue, that I think you mentioned, so I was a bit confused with what the mother meant by having a murderer for a daughter, but I like being put in the middle of things, it gets you thinking about what this all means.
I like how you said that Ivy murdered something else when she was running away from Ashleigh. (I love the spelling of the name, always love awkward spellings!)
I hope this helps.
You have a lot of potential as a writer, but there are things that need working on, like spelling and grammar. I like how you create a scene with your words, almost like watching a movie. I'm not super keen about the plot of the story, seems like there will be a dead end to it, but if you have ideas on how to keep it going, more power to you.
I saw alot of typing errors that you can easily go in and correct no big deal there. To me something is missing it seems kind of short and choppy in places. I love the idea developing but considering Ivy killed someone I think the school should be a "special" school if they accepted a murderer. Over all I like the idea but I feel it needs some work. Good luck with future writings!
Amazing you did very well, I think your gonna be great! I really like your chapter and the concept of a kid being sent to a boarding school, and being a murderer is very fitting for your genre.
Hey there, I came across this chapter of yours while searching the Green Room and thought I'd come check it out and review it for you. I'll start with minor nit-picky things, and then give you my overall opinion alongside some critiques.
You've got a typo in blood, and you need a comma after old
Really picky, but how did leaving blood on the tiles in her house effect the entirety of society? It seems like a very bold statement is all
You aren't capitalising your I's, be careful of that
You need to capitalise my
Whoa, hang on, why hasn't she been arrested? Where are the police? Where's the body? Are her parents the only ones who know?
You've accidentally put a slash in here
Well in fairness, she did murder someone
Okay seriously, how is she not in prison? It sounds like practically everyone knows
Spot the typo!
Spot the typo again
You need a period/full stop after Ivy
She's hardly smiling over the fact she's moving away
Right then, now onto my overall opinion! Before I get onto any critiques or anything, I want to say that I actually really love the idea you have here. It's original, interesting, and is definitely the kind of thing that would grasp my attention. In terms of plot, it could easily grasp your readers and encourage them to read on because you jump straight into the action, which is great, and so people are more likely to remain interested. I think that this story could lead into several different scenarios, and I'm interested to find out how Ivy will deal with and cope with her move to the new school and what not.
Okay, now for critiques! The main thing that actually really bothered me throughout this chapter was that I kept wondering how on earth this girl hasn't been arrested, or isn't in some juvenile centre or something. She killed someone. Someone's life was cut short and taken as a consequence of her actions, and that seriously is not taken lightly, regardless of age. The fact that there's a blood stain also implies a degree of violence, so that implies her murdering wasn't accidental. On a similar note, why haven't they cleaned the bloodstain? That seems so bizzare and odd regardless of whether the police know anything because if they do know about what Ivy did, they would have inspected the area and treated it as a crime scene, and probably would have been washed off once they had all the evidence they needed. But then if they don't know about what Ivy did, her parents would have made sure that stain had completely vanished because it is an enormous giveaway of what Ivy has done.
Still sticking to this police thing, if the authorities do know what Ivy did and she somehow didn't get a jail sentence or a juvenile sentence, they would no way let her move away to a new school without anyone to keep an eye on her. I mean, she could go ahead and slaughter everyone in the school for all they know if she's already killed one person. But then yes, I suppose the police probably don't know about what Ivy did, right? That poses problems for me though. As well as her parents not making sure that bloodstain was clean, it seems very unlikely that they or Ashleigh would have kept it a secret from everyone, regardless of how much these people love her. It's just not that... easy. Plus if the police don't know, where on earth is the body? Hiding a body isn't as easy as ABC y'know.
Something else that bothered me a little about this story so far is that regarding Ivy's attitude, feelings, and behaviour towards the fact that she has killed someone, she is very likely to be a psychopath. I'm bringing my psychology A-Level into this now, and the primary symptom of a psychopath is a feeling of no remorse/feeling no guilt for actions committed. That is exactly what Ivy's attitude is towards her murdering, so she screams psychopath. Other psychopath symptoms she's showing strengthens that: irrational thinking (not understanding why her parents would want to send her away and be worried about her), no responsibility (doesn't accept that her actions are good reasons to move away), and the inability to see oneself as others do.
Now there's nothing wrong with her being a psychopath by itself, but Ivy's atittude towards everything except for her murdering sort of contradicts that. For example, she becomes extremely emotional towards the fact that she's moving away, but a psychopath would fail to feel such deep, lasting emotion. I'm going to assume you didn't make Ivy so that she would be a literal psychopath, but the way you've written her and her attitude towards what she's done, it's sort of impossible for her not to be. But then that is contradicted by other parts of her behaviour and attitude, so it all gets a little messy.I don't know how much sense I've made with this, but I hope you can sort of see what I'm saying and consider revising a few things.
The only other thing that's really bothering me is Ivy's naivety. I find it really bizarre that she doesn't understand why she's being sent away, and why she thinks her parents are so inhumane for sending her away. She, like, killed someone. Someone's life has ended, someone can no longer think, dream, aspire, smile, hurt, cry because of her. It's a big deal, a far bigger deal than simply moving away. As a result, I find it a bit unrealistic that Ivy reacts so strongly to the fact that she's being sent away. She must at least somewhat see her parent's reasoning, right? But hey, it's your story in the end so it's up to you, but I would maybe consider this if you can.
Now negatives aside, I do really think that this story has so much potential and with a few tweaks and edits here and there, it could really shape up to something great. If you have any questions or comments regarding this review, please don't hesitate to let me know. Reply to this review, post on my wall, or send me a PM and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Keep writing,
xoxo Skins
Hey, Ivy! So I'm hoping your username is that of your murderous character only for creative licensing reasons and not because you do, in fact, relate far too much to your young murderess here. Anyway, I have some general feedback and a few more specific pieces of advice.
First and foremost, the dialogue. Dialogue is often the hardest part of a novel, because it can be oh so difficult to make it transition naturally, and yet it is often integral to the quality of a work. Here, the words all feel a bit stilted and unnatural, and I would almost advise not moving so much through with conversation. Let the setting and Ivy's reaction to it speak for itself; have her describe the powerlessness and frustration she feels through portraying her actions, elaborating on her thoughts, and yes, propping it up with a little dialogue too. But don't rely on conversation so much, especially not until you've fully developed the skill of using it in prose.
Beyond that, it would have been nice to see the slightest bit more detail. We have a lot of action with very little internal conversation between us and the narrator - and with first-person, that's extremely important. She is our tour guide of sorts into her own story, so you really need to make sure that she leads us through, keeping us up-to-date on her thoughts, feelings, and emotions as well as her actions. You do a pretty decent job of this in some areas, but in others it's lacking and, in general, it could be a little stronger. Really let her pull us into the story.
I feel as though the narrator's friend really brought something out of her when she called her 'sick' and 'twisted.' I liked it, honestly.
But. For the most part, this was the most rocky stretch of dialogue in this chapter. So be sure to find a way to make it more natural. This is typically something that can only be achieved with a lot of practice, and a lot of aggravating rewrites, but it's worth it.
The last line, then, was beautiful. There's something so compelling about psychologically-unstable characters, isn't there? So enjoy those twists and turns when you're writing about Ivy. I think you're on the right track with her character development, and there's something about her that really draws you in. The plot, from what I've gathered about it, is good, but it's Ivy's personality within it that will likely bring it out even further.
And wow, you're only 13? I know you shouldn't judge the merit of a person's work by looking at their age, but I just noticed that. I wish I could write so well at your age...so again, kudos.
Keep writing, and best wishes! xxx
Hey ivyLenora! I'm Auxi and I'm going to be your reviewer today!
First of all, welcome to YWS!
Second of all, I'm going to be a huge nitpicker in this review, so please put up with me! ^^
I think that you mean "at the faded bloodstain" It sounds better.
You normally say a mark you left on something.
"raised his voice"
You need to capitalise all of the "I"s in that sentence. And maybe look through the rest of the chapter, 'cause I've seen a few other ones.
Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Did you just say killed someone? Shouldn't she be in prison or something? And that full-stop could be a comma, it would flow better.
Again with the i. and "poison Ivy" would be better. I like the sentence, though!
The formatting at the end breaks up the story in a weird way, I think it would be better if you put it all together, just a thought.
Overall, I really like this (even if my review may not show that, I'm just being a nitpicker, really). I really want to know more about Ivy and how on earth she got away with killing someone. Maybe try to put in a little more depth to her feelings and the descriptions throughout, and the end is a leeeetle dramatic, but otherwise, it's really good!
Hope I helped and keep on writing!
Auxii^^
I like this, it is really good. The grammar is good and so is the plot. The story is good and I liked how you ended the chapter. Maybe you could add a little more description, it would make it a little longer. Overall, this is a great first chapter.
This was great. I really want to know why ivy killed someone? You should totally keep writing on this seriously. How old was ivy and ashleigh, i am guessing teens, but I dont know. How did Ivy get away with killing someone. This was really awesome.

Um... one thing to fix is You don't care. Ypu never cared. is this line the ypu to you.
This was really good, keep writing your good at it.
From, Violet.
(sorry for any mistakes on grammar or spelling)
This is good. I like this.
