A New "New" Tab

By now, you've almost certainly noticed a new link across the top of the site: " New". The link takes you to the "View New Posts" page.

The view new posts page shows the latest activity from all across the site. It includes:
- Forum posts
- Storybook posts
- Reviews
- Literary Works
- Club topics

My hope is that by promoting it to the top bar, it'll start getting more attention and lead people toward discovering all the great stuff YWS has to offer, such as storybooks, clubs, and the forums that are "below the fold" on the forums page. But, consider this as a two week trial period. If it ends up being helpful, it'll stay. If, though, it ends up just taking up space, it'll be removed after two weeks.


Known Bugs

- Already read posts from the forums and storybooks will sometimes show up as unread.

- The "New Posts" count in the userbox on the front page sidebar will differ from the count shown on the View New Posts page. The former counts only forums and storybooks. The latter includes everything listed above.

I have a sneaky suspicion that you put it between the messages and notifications tabs so people, say, on touch screens with fat fingers (moi) will click on it by mistake.

First thing I click on

I went ahead and removed the pink coloring for unread topic icons. It wasn't working correctly, and I'm not sure how much of a benefit they really have on a new posts page. However, if people would like it added back in, definitely let me know.

Also fixed a big bug having to do with ordering of literary works. They were being ordered by the time of the oldest post on each work since your latest visit instead of the newest post on each work. So a literary work with two new posts at 2pm and 5pm would show up as if the newest post was at 2pm.

Anyhow, cool to see people using the page! The number of unique views has increased from 20 on average per day to 112 as of yesterday.

Is it possible to remove all items from the New tab if you click the "Mark forums as read" button, so that it's easier to see which items are new since you've cleared your unread items?

I went ahead and added a "Clear New Posts" button based on your feedback, carbon. Does that work?
