'til vs. Till

(This is in regards to the shortened version of 'until.') Well, I have recently been informed by the amazing Jabbster that 'til is no longer grammatically correct. That is simply not acceptable. So she and I spent a good hour searching the Internet, looking for the correct answer. Many dictionaries preferred till. Many other places liked 'til. Both are common, so it’s up to you which one you like. Till is commoner in Scotland, where it can be used like dative to in some situations, while ’til is commoner in the U.S. (Link: here. ) The current position is that until is the more common of the two words and is generally considered to be slightly more formal, which is why it turns up more often in edited prose. It is also rather more likely to appear at the beginning of a sentence than is till. But till is perfectly good English and the choice of whether to use it or until is often decided by the rhythm of the sentence. (Link: here. ) So, which do you support? 'til apostrophe t-i-l. It's the contraction of UNTIL.

'Til is short for "until". Till is like... Farming. It even looks odd. :shock:

I have to stick with the original 'til.
