“Haelar,” she croaked, not looking back at him as she continued scratching at her face.

"Haelar?" He frowned. "God of death, not god of life? They both asleep anyhow. No point praying."

She hesitated. She supposed he had a point about the whole god of death thing. “…They’re waking up soon… I thought he might help… but he didn’t.”

"He sleep," Rönn said with a shrug. "Gods never help, even when awake."

Ky nodded, mechanically standing up. “You can go ahead; get him back faster than I can move. I’ll be okay.”

Ky nodded. “Okay… but if I get too heavy you have to put me down and take care of him first, okay?”

She wasn’t going to put up much of a fight, though. Sunlight was already beginning to dwindle and alone in the forest at night with no coat or protection was not where she wanted to find herself. Much better to stay with Rönn and get back sooner.

(That's so cool!)

He straightened and trudged through the snow toward the Keep.

She tensed when he stood, not used to being up so high, but held on for dear life. She closed her eyes and focused on breathing slowly, trying to stay calm. She’d need to be able to carry Tomhas inside and explain to Sera what happened once they got there. She needed to be ready.

Too often we crave the extraordinary in life, without even learning how to cherish the ordinary first. Friend, I promise you this: if you can learn to take joy in the simple mundane things in life, the extraordinary will take care of itself, it'll be on its way, hurrying towards you. But if you skip the first part, it'll ever evade you.
