Hello hello!

Congratulations to all participants of the Holiday Senryu Contest 2021!

*party streamers*

You've all done amazing learning what might be a new form to a lot of you and rolling with it with a comic holiday theme. It has been super neat to see everyone's different perspective on the holidays, whether they focus on the weather, the gifts, the santas, the decorations or the tasty treats.

First up, we have our

Special Prize Categories

After a significant amount of finger-tapping and robot-processing I have determined that --

@InuYosha's senryu qualify for Best Snowperson Chic!

the smiles never last
but the heart is always glad
to see a smile, once

our eyes admire lights
strung across the sky tonight
yet, we never fly

clad in red and white
he flies above the rooftops
with the brightest smile

These senryu seem to be from the perspective of a snowperson! Their style is cool and elegant, like trendy snowpeople posing with their scarves.

@alliyah's senryu qualify for Most Colourful (or Colorful)!

~ice~

ice; a glass half full,
half empty - optimism?
pessimism melting?

water crystalized
beautiful except for
scraping car windows

waddle across ice
trying not to slip, wait! WHOOOOOOOOSH
well at least I tried...

Each senryu about the ice from a human view is different, hence being colourful in a metaphorical sense. The fun plays with idioms and onamatopoeia also make these senryu just like a string of tri-coloured fairy lights.

Next, we have . . .

Our Top Three Senryu Sequences

Third Place
@rida

I.
Excuse me if I
Want video games this Christmas,
- can't blame the new age

II.
Smaller sibling must
Irritate elder siblings
- always means Christmas too

III.
Christmas is coming
Danger for parents; oh, look!
Costly Christmas lists

A funny perspective of Christmas in the family, rida's senryu sequence is succint and comic!

Second Place
@Seirre

dips her fingers in
icing, as she decorates
the sugar cookies -

if she cared, she'd say
this is much too sweet. but it's
different with sprinkles.

(blazing colour like
flame-shaped memories that no
one forgets all year.)

Seirre gives us relatable moments with holiday desserts, done in evocative and playful language. (I especially love that second senryu!)

First Place
@Plume

the powdered sugar
atop birthday lemon bars
puffs up as I blow.

multicolored lights
twinkle, like small candle flames
for two holidays.

sugar clouds the air,
my friend's face white with sweetness.
I laugh, then I cough.

Plume's poems present particular points of playfulness in people's holiday peculiarities with pulsing painted pictures!

Congratulations again everybody! I'll be delivering your point prizes in a bit. The winners of special prize categories will also receive an edit of their current avvie themed after the category they won.

Thank you so much once again for joining, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
