In eighteen short days, hundred of thousands of people will gather in Times Square of New York City to ring in 2014. Many will attend parties, others will stay in their homes to count down the last remaining threads of 2013. New Years is a time of resolutions, champagne and kisses with that special someone. What stories will you tell about it?

You have until 6:00 PM GMT on January 31st, 2014 to write a short story of 1,000 words or less. The only requirement is that it be set on New Year's Eve, and if you wish, into New Year's Day. Anything else is fair game, as long the content remains PG-13 (in other words, no graphic sex, violence or language).

Then I will sit down with the judges and we will pick a grand prize and first prize winner. All judging will be done anonymously. Depending on the number of entries, I will try to get a decision back as quick as possible!

And we have some pretty sweet prizes!

Grand prize will recieve a $25 Amazon giftcard and gold badge for your profile. First prize will receive a $10 Amazon giftcard and a silver badge for your profile.

I can't wait to see what you guys come up with it! Hit me with questions if you have them, otherwise, happy writing!

All our dreams can come true — if we have the courage to pursue them.

Count me in :D

Who knows, my new year's night might actually be interesting enough for me to actually write down what happened :P

But my break's coming up, so definitely sign me up.

Either way . . . wasn't giving rewards of monetary value against YWS rules? O.o
For I who am poor have only my dreams
I spread my dreams under your feet . . .

. . . tread softly for you tread on my dreams.

I'm in. It seems that it's time once again to exercise the creativity of my mind and unlock my inner idea's and set them before me on my minds table to observe for the purpose of producing a wonderful short story.

@KittyCatMeow

This contest is being sponsored by Nate, who is providing the Amazon giftcards. So I don't know how much good that would do!

Also, just a note to prospective entrants: don't send anything to me until it's revised and ready to be judged! Once you submit it, you won't be able to make changes! These forums are a great resource!

Wait, how are we submitting entries? Are we posting them in our portfolio and spending a link, or are we sending the piece straight to you?

Omg. I just sent my story as a pm. I hope I win (finger crossed).
Our thing progresses
I call and you come through
Blow all my friendships
To sit in hell with you
But we’re the greatest
They’ll hang us in the Louvre
Down the back, but who cares? Still the Louvre.

- Lorde

I'll give it a go, but I don't want the prize. I thought money as a prize was against YWS rules, and I don't have an Amazon account
And the heart is hard to translate
It has a language of its own
It talks in tongues and quiet sighs,
And prayers and proclamations
