We'd like for this contest to encourage you to write new poems, but I will accept shortened and revised versions of previous poems.

As short as you can!

<50 words is an acceptable range to shoot for in this contest!

If you aim to do <20, that is excellent! Just make sure the poem leaves an impact!

Some of the examples shown above are <10! Something in that range would be highly impressive.

Just keep in mind that the shorter the word count, the more we're going to judge to see what it's doing--if it leaves an impact, if it is memorable. The longer the word count, the more we're going to judge to see if it's being efficient. The winning poem may not necessarily be the *shortest* poem ever, but it will have all of its aspects/elements working together cohesively in as little words as possible.

But these are just guidelines! Sometimes it is better to just see where the pen takes you and trust your gut! If you're surprised, we're surprised! <3

It can be about anything! If you want to make it kitty-themed, you can! It's not required though.
