Well, I don't know how many of you know this but I'm trying to like, start a music career. But I might become a band so what's at the top of the page on the following link may vary. Anyway, I need as many honest opinions as I can get--but does this look cheesy? I designed it on my own and I'm just wondering what everyone else thinks...

First of all, if this is the main page, it needs to be rebuffed. The first thing that the reader should see is some information. What I see, as far as this, is just a bunch of links. It's very simple, but... well... simplicity doesn't mean that it should have no information on it.

Let's say, for some reason, photobucket goes down, and all the images are gone. What are you going to do about it? When the reader of this website comes, all he's going to see is a bunch of red crosses (assuming he's on IE). What you need is the "alt" command. For example, you should do this instead.

Code: Select all
<img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v408/ChevroletGirl/MorganHarper/fsjournallogo.gif" alt="journal">

This means that, even though the image may be down, you can still see the link. And, if some blind person goes to your website, they'll be able to actually have their computer tell them what the links are. Alts are your friend. Sometimes, you don't need them. For example, if you have a gallery, I wouldn't suggest it. After all, if a drawing is down, it's down. Nobody, even a blind person, will be able to see it. But with something so important as navigational links, you need to define alt.

Unles... of course... you don't want to use images.

Now you're saying to yourself, "Of course I want to use images! They're so much cooler! Look at the font!"

Okay... for one, that font is barely readable. For another, you can do the exact same thing with a CSS layout, with less space involved. That doesn't mean that it won't be a little tricky, mind you, but at least it might look nicer. And the spaces between the words will be better.

As far as black backgrounds?

I don't like them. Now please note, that doesn't mean I have never made a black background in my life. Check out this screen shot of one of the skins you can change my website too...

It's not just "black." It has a variety of colors which, hopefully, match. And it has information. Information is your friend...

I would make a little space where you might have some content in it all well, giving a little description of yourself. And stuff. Just take a deep breath, and tackle that HTML. And CSS. :D YOU CAN DO IT!

Eh... too honest? :X

I agree that it's a little unreadable... but if you cleaned up some of the lines, I think it would be really nice looking...

Wow thanks everyone for the input, everyone. Especially Snoink. I've been thinking..I kind of like the clean-white look better but this really my first time messing around with html on a website. I've been doing layouts for TOD for a very long time. But thanks again...I'll let you know when I get up the energy to change it around.
