Wow, this is sparking quite a bit of controversy isn't it?

*Is sorry for being part of it*

I don't like this idea. Why does it have to change? YWS is just fine the way it is.

EDIT: Besides, the lack of "technology" as you describe it, makes YWS just seem a bit cozier. The design is fine. The purposes of YWS are being fulfilled, and it seems that the only reason this change is taking place is just to jump on the bandwagon and be "cool" and "new".

And $19.95 per month? Are you kidding me? That's more expensive then world of warcraft, a game which you can do so much on. Also, you want this to be an open community of writers, but that won't be true any more because you'll be favoring the rich over the poor.

Please do not implement this change.

What!? Nooo! Please don't do this, I like it just the way it is. If you expect me to pay $19.99 a month you've got another thing coming. And whats up with this cartoon-y MMORPG theme? My computer is too slow and will lock up in an instant. I'm begging you, YWS is just fine the way it is.

Edit: I 100% Agree with Elinor Brynn!

Only $19.95? I think this site is worth much more than that.

Yeah. I voted it be $999 a month. That way we mods could be paid and live an extravagant life of ease and luxury.

How do you become mods?

And, on a different note. Yeah, paying a monthly fee is pretty outlandish. Especially for people like me who are living on a strict budget. I don't even have Microsoft Word, because it's too expensive.

19.95 a month is a lot. Especially if you're 13 and jobless. My parents aren't exactly rich either. I love YWS and I would hate to quit just because I can't afford it.

$19.95 may sound like a lot, but it's actually very little. Spread out over a month, $19.95 comes to less than three cents an hour. You also have to keep in mind that this is in American money, which is worth less and less! Besides, the $19.95 also comes with an entire wardrobe for your in-YWS character.

Can we put this to a vote? I know if YWS changes to this format it's over for me. Did not you just post in the chat how you have received tons of delete membership requests? By changing YWS' format and charging people to use it, you'll loose a lot of people and the whole purpose of YWS with it.

Not all of us are on every hour. What about us younger members that don't even have a credit card, or parents that don't want us to 'waste our money'? In my opinion, I think that by making it into an RPG style 'game' it will dumb down the purpose of this website, and make it into a game.
Nate if you're dead set on this change then please refer me to a website that is just like (or near to) YWS as it is at the moment.

And please note that the $19.95 only applies to the US members. Right now, the technology we are talking about would not be available in other countries, though we are currently in negotiations for that. The pricing for different countries will be available as soon as we receive word.

Nate wrote:It's actually Chinese, not Japanese. The reasoning is just that China has the largest population of Internet users. Appealing to that demographic would be very beneficial to YWS.

Nice how we're doing this before it's even available outside the US. You think of everything, Nate.

Snoink is absolutely right. Plus, we may come up with a model that'd allow you to access it for free. Probably something like signing up for magazine subscriptions.

A vote? I don't see why. But if you're interested in sites like YWS, here's an excellent one:

Nate, this is the lamest, sickest, funniest prank I've ever been sucked into.
Congratulations, you (and you too mods) have officially scared the heck out of us.
