This is largely a premise in search of a plot but I'm going for it anyway.
I don't have an exciting blurb yet, given that I've only been thinking about this for approximately 24 hours, but here's the short version.
At first, it seemed like any other spacecraft, a primitive probe sent out by a civilization long since dead. But Anna, the historian sent on missions to preserve cultural artifacts, immediately recognizes that the strange gold disc is no piece of scrap metal. After further study, she plays the record and is startled, not by its foreign-ness, but its familiarity. Who made this record, and why do they speak ancestral Agalonian?
After some debate, the crew decides to follow the map set by the probe-builders to find out their secrets. But along the way, it becomes clear that someone doesn't want them discovering the truth. Their communications are cut off, and the crew is forced to scour a dead planet for answers and to find a way back home.
-If you're not familiar, the Golden Record was sent with the Voyager probes as a time capsule of humanityhttps://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/golden-record/. The entire premise is that some space travelers discover it, find an unexpected connection, and start searching for answers that some currently-unknown entity does not want them to find. There is a lot of plot to be figured out but I'll spew what I have in the next post.
