Who's ready for NaNoWriMo?

yoha_ahoy · 2006-10-02T23:52:05Z

Sign ups for National Novel Writing Month 2010 won't be open until October, but when they are you can find them at http://www.nanowrimo.org . Expectant writers begin planning what they want their 50,000 word novels to be about. But Higher Deity forbid that you should write any of it down before midnight of October 31st, because the NaNo rules only allow 30 full days of furious writing during the month of November. So be prepared for lack of food, overdose of caffeine and late nights trying to get in that extra 1,000 words, because NaNoWriMo 2016 is coming! Alrighty, let's break this down. Vets of NaNo, you know the shpeal. Newcomers and those of you still thinking about it can step into my office and hear the details. NaNoWriMo (stands for National Novel Writing Month) is an awesomely crazy, yet highly rewarding 30 day period in which your goal is to write 50,000 words of semi-coherent sentences, preferably forming some sort of story. We are not looking for perfection. Spelling and grammar can go out the window. Perfect plot lines can too. Characters can go insane at the romantic climax, and yes... you can kill off your main character if they get annoying. My point is, the goal is quantity, not quality. Moving on... to split this up a bit, 50K breaks down to 1,667 words a day. That is approximately three pages in a size 12 font. If you think you can do that easily, try setting a higher goal. Or get ahead on weekends, and save up for those nights when you have too many previously planned obligations to get a chance to sit down and write. In other words, customize this NaNo to fit to you personally. A great tip, is to bring your friends into this. They're great at nagging you about your word count and to tell you when you've had enough caffeine for the day. Feel free to also return the favor to them! They'll thank you for it in the end. Speaking of the end! Once you reach your goal, whether it be 25K, the regular 50K or maybe even 100K; you'll feel great. Don't be surprised if you're unusually giddy come December 1st and you burst out randomly laughing or you start telling strangers about your noveling experience or detailed explanations about your crazy plot that went nowhere you expected it to. It's pretty normal for all of us. So, the checkered flag is ready. Are you? If anyone has questions, feel free to PM me! And you can add me on the NaNo site. My username is the same as here: yoha_ahoy

Hey. I actually just got into this NaNo thing and I have a questions, can my November NaNo be about anything at all? And what if I don't finish my novel by the end of the month?

But, staying on topic: I am so ready. I'm excited, really. Marked my calender and I will totally be pulling an all nighter for this(:

Rena:

NaNo can be about anything yes, and there's no consequences if you don't finish. You haven't got anything to lose except 30 days of your life.

Just another quack spouting psychobabble.

John McClane: Drop it. It's the police.
Tony: You won't hurt me.
John McClane: Oh, yeah? Why not?
Tony: Because you're a policeman. There are rules for policemen.
John McClane: Yeah. That's what my captain keeps telling me

Haha, yes, I'm extremely excited! Of course, in the spirit of NaNo insanity, I just recently scrapped the plot I've been working on for about a year and essentially started over. So let the fun begin! ^^

I can't wait to start writing! No plot problems for me, fortunately.

This is my first year for NaNo, I think it's a pretty good way to celebrate the beginning of my 2nd year on YWS (even if it is a little late). I haven't had any plot problems but knowing my luck they'll pop up mid-November. I'm so excited, I wish November would get here already.

I'm doing nano too

First year everrr!

However, I do want my story idea to be more quality than quantity-based, so if I come across a bump in the story, I'm not going to pull out randoms to get word count

You cannot dream yourself into a character; you must hammer and forge yourself into one.

The writer, when he is also an artist, is someone who admits what others don't dare reveal.

I'm with you there. I've heard stories about how people have random happenstances occur just to pad wordcount when they get stuck. I actually had trouble fitting my whole story into a mere thirty days...

That was last year though. Who knows how it's going to go this year?

I am reminded of the babe by you.

This is my first year actually trying NaNoWriMo, and I'm really excited! I usually wait till after school to write because I think of a lot of great things to add. All my characters are real angsty! Just the way I like 'em! Except I feel the need to edit all the time xD

I agree Dreamy115. Long year... *sigh* I can't believe I'd never heard of it until AFTER it ended! *sigh again* Long, long year...

I gave up telling people I hear voices. So now I talk to the voices instead.

I kind of had that problem last year doing it the first time, only when I came to a bump in the story, I didn't pull out some stupid ". . . and then, they were attacked by ninjas" kind of deal. It was just easier for me to do something . . . dramatic or unexpected, instead of retarded.

Going for Win #2!! Totally PSYCHED!!!!
