Reva:
I stared at the note one last time, the one signed by my birth mother. I don't know how she found me, or why she decided to contact me, but I felt nothing for her. Nothing but disgust for the woman who is so weak that she would allow her only child to be abandoned. Only because I was different than her. How pathetic of her. My heart hardened once more, harder than it ever had been before. This time there would be no softening. I stood at the threshold of a choice, one that could change my entire life. Change me from the hidden rogue no one noticed to someone who would make them suffer. The dolls were in for the next step of their downfall: me.
I dropped a small hand onto my pet and felt the familiar ripple that rushed through my body every time I bent the light around my body and rendered myself invisible. They could never see me coming.
The woman was chatting, standing on the edge of the marketplace with her friend. They spoke of us, my people. My matches.
"I cannot believe the latest attempts of the rogues. Do they honestly think that they are greater than us because they have their beloved pets? They will only ever be one thing- trash."
Her friend laughed, a high pitched sound that echoed in my ears, making my blood boil. "They are lower than trash- lower than dirt even! What can they do that we cannot?"
I came up behind the first, so close I could feel the heat coming off of her and she still didn't notice me. Useless Dolls. I released a flash of light that would stun them both and leapt upon her back, dragging my dagger across the thin skin on her neck, puncturing deep and fast. She collapsed to the ground and I launched myself at her companion and plunged my dagger into her neck, deep until it could go no longer. I tore it out and looked down at the crimson blade then the dolls lying dead on the ground. Their blood ran like water, staining the rough brown cobblestones and painting my new destiny. I couldn't deny the satisfaction connected to these kills. It was time to make a name for myself. Time for a bloody legacy to begin.
