I'm not quite sure why I followed Kenran back towards his camp. Perhaps because he'd seemed worried and preoccupied or maybe it was just one of those fortunate moments when making randome, instinctive decisions paid off. I listened as he tried to talk himself out of trouble but when the sea assassin grabbed him and pressed the blade towards his flesh, I whispered my spell. A shield sprang up between the two men, throwing both in opposite direction, the dagger spinning out of the man's hand and landing on the ground. But then, instead of encasing Kenran in a protective dome, I trapped the sea assassin in a restrictive one.

"Are you alright?" I whispered.

Amanta woke early the next morning with Luke hovering over her. She started and then relaxed. "Luke! You scared me half to death!" She shouted and whispered.

"Sorry," he held out his hand to help her up. "But we've got to practice this morning remember?"

She took his hand and got to her feet, "I know."

*I can't think of anything else.*

I led Amanta to another clearing and handed her a sword and shield.

"First, we need to warm up. Remember those excersises I showed you yesterday?" I asked as I pulled my own sword from it's scabbard. Amanta nodded and together we practiced striking the air with different combinations of slashes and thrusts.

"Good, good. Now I'm going to show you how to disarm someone." I approached Amanta and took her arm gently within my hand, guiding her through the steps several times before I let her try it on her own, on me. I charged, sweeping my sword forward in a downward thrust. Amanta brought her own weapon up to meet it and stepped forward at the same time, pressuring my arm. I maintained my hold on the weapon but barely.

"Don't step so far forward and try to push a touch harder. You're doing very well."

"I'm fine," Kenran answered with a smile, glancing up at the greying sky. "We're lucky he had the last shift. Otherwise there would be two of them right now to deal with."

"You shouldn't have told him the captain would kill you," Dahlia said. "You should've told him that the captain could never kill you because you were too valuable."

"I should've," Kenran sighed regretfully. "But anyway, he's going to have to report back soon, so we can't leave him here forever." he regarded the sentry nervously. "What are we going to do with him?"

"I'm not sure but it has to be believable. Perhaps you can pretend that I attacked the camp and you caught me?" I suggested.

"I can't do that," Kenran objected. "They'd want to kill you."

"I know but that's when I use my black magic to escape," I met his frown with a smile and placed my hand in his.

"Wait, let's think this through..." I shook my head and opened my mouth to let out a loud scream.

"Let go of me you scoundrel!" I shouted.

Kenran sighed and held her arms back, unsure if he would make this believable. Dahlia was good at deceiving people, but Kenran wasn't all that smooth.

There were shouts and people started running towards them.

"What's going on?" Many people demanded in unison as sea assassins hurried to the scene.

"I said let me go!" I shouted, pulling sharply to the right. Unfortunately, Kenran was holding me much too gently and I jerked out of his arms but made a convincing show of tumbling to the floor due to the momentum so that he had time to grab me again.

"She killed the sentry," Kenran explained and their eyes swivelled to the body that lay upon the ground.

Kenran felt guilty lying about this, but there was nothing to do for Dahlia except do what she wanted him to do.

"How did you know she killed him?" someone asked.

"I--I heard something, and--and I knew that there were Moun--For--people around," Kenran said quietly, glad that he caught himself. He wasn't supposed to know about the other soliders.

Our fighting practice was interrupted by the sea assassins.

"Did you want anything in particular?" I asked after they had spent at least half an hour watching us.

"To apologise," Delita called as he, Silver and Aren approached.

"No need," I replied. "I understand that you wasn't thinking straight." Silver shifted uncomfortably and Delita looked a touch uncomfortable.

"No need to be embarressed. The mountain soldiers have strong magic," I said.

Aren wanted to tell him to hush before he really made the two mad. 'No need to be embarressed.' He had said, it didn't matter how strong the majic was it was still very embarrissing to lose control as a sea assassin. She looked at Luke then Amanta,

"So, have either of you seen Kenran?" She asked quietly,

"Nope," Luke replied deflicting Amanta's sword.

"If you see him and I haven't already talked to him send him my way." Aren forced a smile. "You are not doing half bad Amanta."

Amanta smiled, "thanks, but I've still got a long ways to go before Luke will let me get anywhere near the battle feild again."

"Which will ne-"

I opened my mouth to finish the sentence I had started and then changed my mind.

"You forest people are strange," Aren frowned and seemed to have her mind on other matters.

"How so?" I asked her, blocking Amanta's sword again and then disarming her in one fluid movement.

"You clearly don't like to see your companions killed and yet you are eager to be on the battle field, eager to fight," Aren noted as Amanta retrieved her sword and mimicked my movement with a similar outcome except it was my own blade that now lay on the ground. I left it there and turned to face the sea assassins.

Silver

"So, what where you doing before? You and Delita?" Silver questioned.
"Why do you ask?" Kenran replied, emotionless.
"Because I want to know... why else?" Silver shot back at him.
Kenran looked at Silver as if he was mad. Silver was thinking he was.

*Bleh. That sucked, sorry. I can't think of anything.

Kenran refused to answer. "What about you?" He spat. There was no chance he was going to tell a sea assassin about his little sister. The less they knew the better.

You unlock this door with the key of imagination. Beyond it is another dimension: a dimension of sound, a dimension of sight, a dimension of mind. You’re moving into a land of both shadow and substance, of things and ideas. You’ve just crossed over into… the Twilight Zone.
