OK, I've decided to do something a little unique from all the other storybooks. The way we're going to do this might remind some people of Dungeons & Dragons.

So here's the deal, everyone lives in a future that's stuck in the past, and I don't mean to contradict myself when I say this. They have advanced technology, but choose not to rely on it and instead rely on their own strengths. The upside to this is that everyone has special powers that us humans of this time do not, but that'll be explained later.

So, a dark knight has been threatening the land of Arkadia. (I will be the one to control this bad guy. I'll only post him when the main characters are confronting him.) He has powerful dark powers that lets him summon and control all types of animals and monsters. On top of that, he's found ancient machinery that he has been able to convert into robots, more commonly referred to as Steel Soldiers, or Husks.

This is where you guys come in. A group of heros have set off on a quest to vanquish the dark knight and restore peace throughout Arkadia. As far as the story goes, I'll leave that up to you guys, just keep it within the dark knight thing.

As far as battles go, you guys can decide when to make monsters appear and stuff. But, once in a while I'll make monsters appear, too. And you can't kill them off in one hit, either. When I make monsters appear, you can always bet that there will be more than 4 of them. And when you run into boss battles, I will tell you how long the battle will have to be before you can actually kill it.

Here's the fun part. I didn't call this storybook VG Rumble for nothing. There will be a level-up system that includes magic and various other powers. You cannot use magic at the beginning of the story. I will decide who gets a level-up on their magic and stuff and who doesn't depending on how well the characters fight AND work together.

Magic:

Basic Magic:

There are four basic elements of magic, fire, ice, electricity and healing. If there are any other elements you would like to use, PM me and I'll add it to the list later on. Nobody can use magic right off the bat. After the first battle I'll give a few individuals a couple of spells.

Magic consists of three levels:
Level 1: Shooting magic out of your hand/Healing minor wounds.
Level 2: Having other uses for the magic, such as imbuing your weapon with an element/Healing major wounds, such as severed limbs.
Level 3: Casting bigger, badder spells that will sometimes result in instant death for the enemy/Bringing a character back to life within ten minutes of his/her death.

(Current list of basic magic elements: fire, ice, lightning, wind, healing, water, void.)

Advanced Magic:

Unlike basic magic, advanced magic is much more deadly, even so to the caster if it isn't used properly. Also unlike basic magic, advanced magic spells only level up once, not twice.

Level 1: Basic use of the spell. 1 cast per day.
Level 2: Spell becomes more potent, and dangerous. 2 casts per day.

(Current list of advanced magic elements: gravity, time, meteor, holy, earth, bio.)

Skill Magic:

Unlike the rest of the magic spells that are used for attacking, skill magic is a type of magic that helps augment a character's ability in or outside of battle. An example of this is the use of the Shadow spell to make a character become invisible. Another example would be using the Enhanced Sight spell to see farther than ever before.

Level 1: Limited use of spell, 2 casts per day.
Level 2: Spell becomes more potent, 3 casts per day.
Level 3: Magic cannot fail being cast or reversed by enemies, 4 casts per day.

(Current list of skill magic: Shadow, Enhanced Sight, Enhanced Smell, Enhanced Hearing, Unlock, Empathy, Intimidate, Burst of Strength, Burst of Speed, Metaphysical Shield.)

Weapon Conversion:
Weapon conversion is when you use special powers to change the shape and strength of your weapons so it becomes even more powerful than before. Important: I will tell you when you can use this power. I'll post something that says, "(character's name) can use Weapon Conversion!" Then, and ONLY then can you use it. You can choose whatever your new weapon looks like and its powers. Be creative.

Over-Drive:
An instant-kill power. It can be whatever you want it to be, but once you use it the enemy you're fighting will die. This is just like Weapon Conversion, you can only use it if I say you can. You can always bet I'll save this for boss battles.

Unity:
Basically this power is the ability for two characters to fuse into one super-being. Just like Weapon Conversion and Over-Drive, you can only use this when I say you can. But there's a catch. This power can't be used by just any two characters. When two characters interact with each other and form a bond of friendship, only then will those two characters be able to use this power.

Whenever I decide to give someone a level-up with a certain magic or another ability, I'll also list all the abilities that all the characters have at the same time to avoid confusion.

Summons:
A fairly new addition to the storybook, a character who has the ability to summon can call upon a beast of great power, known as Espers, to aid the group in battle. (The name Esper comes from the game Final Fantasy 12.) The only way to obtain this power is to defeat one of these creatures in battle. When defeated, these creatures will drop an orb that will fuse with the first person who touches it. That person will be able to summon the creature that produced the orb. Summons may only be used once a day by any member of the group, meaning if one person summons something, no one else may summon until the following day.

(Current Summon-able Creatures: Leviathan, Ifrit, Shiva, Quezacotl)

I know it's a lot to sink in at once, but you don't have to worry about all this stuff. I'll be taking care of all the technical things like level-ups. All you guys have to worry about is telling the story and enjoying yourselves.

Why do you get to be dungeon master? Lol. It's a great idea and I am so going to have to dig the board-game out tonight and force my siblings to play with me. I do hope you're having an adventurer too though? As for my character...

Name: The Lady Raven
Nickname: Raven
Gender: Female
Age: 23
Race/Species: Human
Class: Cleric.
Appearance: Tall with long, black hair and dazzling blue eyes. She dresses in deep blue robes.
Weapon(s): A cleric wand and a mace. She keeps the wand in her pocket when she is not healing (so throughout all the early battles seenas she starts with no magic) and uses the mace to fight.
Personality: Raven is bold and friendly. She openly shows her affection towards the other adventurers and she tries to keep an eye on others during the battle.
History: Raven is the daughter of a wealthy family but she left home in search of adventure and friendship.

I get to be DM because I made this storybook, isn't that reason enough? Before I consider getting a character of my own involved in this story, I want to see how it runs with other people first.

And like I said before, you guys don't have to worry about all the technical stuff, I'll worry about the level-ups. I just want you guys to at least know what they are, though.

Gender: female
Age: 16
Race/Species: half elf
Class: archer
Appearance: tall and slender, noticeable muscle tone through shoulders and legs; long blonde hair and blue-gray eyes
Weapon(s): cherry recurve bow and short sword
Personality: has a very random personality; loves to play and joke occassionally, is calm and quiet the rest of the time; has a wicked temper
History: She's the only girl in her family (aside from her mother, who died several years before), thus she must be the toughest. Her two half brothers are the only friends she really has, and they have to stand up for themselves constantly. She has a fascination with fire and wants to learn magic, desperately.

I think we have enough people to start the story now. You guys can begin the story anyway you want, but you all have to be mentioned in the same post. I suggest starting in the King's throne room, being given the mission to kill the Dark Knight, but it's your call.

And for those of you who wish to join in later on, you have to be in the same place as the other characters. It'd be hella confusing for me to have to coordinate two different battles at the same time and give out the proper level-up skills accordingly afterwords.

F.Y.I., I may decide to add more level-up stuff later on.

(Since nobody else is starting this off I'll have to do it myself.)

Four young warriors stood in front of the King of Arkadia. He held out his hands. "Lady Raven, Karana, Ilum Ro and Warren McKnight. You four have done so much for my kingdom in these past few years of service. But times are changing, and I fear war is upon us. A Dark Knight by the name of Ethric Vanhiel has been using his dark magic to summon monsters and control soldiers of metal and steel. I do not wish to send my knights, such a large amount of soldiers would indeed cause war, and in turn the death of many of my people. You four must venture forth in secrecy to find Ethric and put a stop to his ways. A small group would be able to slip past his troops much easier. We do not know where Ethric is hiding, but we think it may be somewhere near-"

The throne room's doors swung open, one of the royal guard's captains ran in. "M'lord! Monsters are attacking the south gate. A few of them have broken through and are attacking the citizens! We can't go after them ourselves without leaving our posts. If we did, more of those foul creatures would break into our fair city!"

(This was just a quick intro to get the story going. You guys can decide where the Dark Knight could be hiding and have the king tell your characters after the first battle.)

(The first battle will consist of 5 bull-like creatures that fight with axes and 1 dragon. The dragon will appear after the bull creatures are dead as your first boss battle. I'll give you your magic before you have to fight the dragon. Also, if you guys could give me ideas for future monsters to fight that'd be swell. This was all I could come up with right now.)

ok, Im officially joining!

Name:Warren McKnight

Gender:Male

Age:22

Race:Human

Class:Rogue

Appearance:Tall and slender, with visible muscles that show through his shirt. Brown hair, short and spikey, and hazel eyes.

Weapons:Two extreamily thin, strong, and long swords. Built for swiftness and accuracy.

Personality:Outgoing, and crazy. Likes to include himself in everything that is happening around him. If he feels unincluded, trust me you, he will get himself included somehow.

History:Being the son of a dark War lord isnt as Appealing as it may or may not sound. With a father who is constantly trying to take over a kingdom, or trying to steal gold, he never had time for his only son. With the mother gone(she ran away 15 years after her son was born, afraid that she would never be able to escape from the evil doing of her husband) he felt very lonely, and finally decided to leave, and help destroy his father.

Raven

"Let's go!" I exclaimed, following the guard out towards the South gate.

"Over there," The guard indicated five huge creatures. They vaguely resembled bulls with large, curving horns and thick, brown hides.

"Think your arrows can pierce those?" Ilum Ro wondered.

"Only one way to find out," Karana responded. She pulled her bow from her back and notched an arrow before firing it at the nearest beast. Her aim wasslightly off but the arrow collided with the creature's leg and sank into the skin. The beast took no notice and moved towards another civilian.

Together we charged forward and took the first out together. I injured the beast with my mace while Karana hacked at it's body with her short sword and Ilum Ro delivered the final blow with a powerful downward stroke from his broad sword.

Karana

These creatures were tough. Of course, my aim with a bow was not the best, but nonetheless they should have been down by now!

Raven and I were too busy trying to down a bull-creature to notice a dark, strong power approaching...but that was not something to worry about at the moment. These creatures would destroy the city if we didn't destroy them!

I realized that I was doing better with my bow...the short sword was a useless as a dagger at this point. I back away, clambered up onto the roof of a nearby building - thankfully a point where I could see all five beasts and the four gates - and drew more arrows. Careful... I told myself. I can't hit the others, but I have to be precise...I have to be accurate enough to do damage...I hope they don't get in the way! Loadinga bolt, pulling back the string to anchor it at my cheek, I focused on the unprotected head of the animal...

Raven narrowly avoided my bolt. The beast had pushed her in the way, but it's attempts were in vain. My arrow was buried in its neck, right behind the head.

"Sorry, Raven!" I called, loading another arrow.

"Be more careful!" she screamed back. "Make sure you know what you're aiming at!"

Seenas most people don't seem to understand class, I'm going to tell you what you are based on your weaons and such. Karana is probably an archer, Ilum Ro a fighter and Warren a rogue. Would you say that's accurate Dynamo?

Raven

"Be more careful! Make sure you know what you're aiming at!" I called as I dashed towards a third creature that was currently locked in combat with Warren. He ducked a swipe of its claws and countered with three fast, accurate slashes. The creature stumbled back a step and I came at it from behind with an upward sweep of my mace that cut deep into its stomach. The animal reared up onto its hind legs and attempted to trample me but Warren dashed forward and finished it with a rapid thrust of his sword, directly into its neck.

The fourth creature collapsed due to a heavy blow from Ilum Ro and we took the fifth out together - a bolt to its neck and many stab wounds to its chest as well as one mighty strike to the head from my mace.

It appeared as if there job was finished, but alas, they could here the dark rumblings of a large creature coming in there direction. Slowly it came from the darkness and reared up in full view of all of its surroundings. It was a dragon.

"Uh oh." Warren muttered as the dragon grew ever closer.

"Does anyone here know how to kill a dragon?!" Called out Raven. Nobody even had time to answer the question before the beast was upon them. It seemed as if they had to chance of succeding.
