The world is just a house uncompleted We lay every brick with pride But it collapses So we slowly fill the gaps With grit and grout and love and reinforcement Hoping one day the wall will be finished So we can paint it in every colour Like a rainbow of people, all strung together But then a person dies and a colour turns grey And eventually when we're all gone the grout crumbles And the next generation is forced to start again With this unending cycle of crash and fall Just to finish our home A new place to hide
I watched the Sun fade away And the Moon takes its place I cried during that endless night Toiled and screamed and begged For the light of day And when it didn't come I died
Under the darkness of night Where all things bright Fade away Within the starry bay The black ink of waves crawling up the shore Fascinating old shells; curious to explore Slowly rising to a high tide Then pulling back with pride Smacking rocks into my legs And lapping water at speckled eggs Tossing back the sand And hauling them with its slippery hand
The feeling when it's day 2 of napo and you are already half way through napo xD You are absolutely on a roll! You might enjoy playing with some structures like Tanka during the month too, I tankas especially would really really fit your style. This last poem is really interesting and I like the play with end-rhyme too. Good job! You've already reached the "hearty halfway" badge!
you should know i am a time traveler & there is no season as achingly temporary as now
Yay! Thanks so much for the encouragement @lliyah! Halfway already... I usually write just blank verse (No rhyme, Same amount of lines in a stanza; I think that's blank verse), yesterday I wrote a free verse and haiku and I really want to explore pastoral, terza rima, elegy and chant royal. It might also be nice to do a tanka or two.
Under the darkness of night Where all things bright Fade away With the day To a cacophony of lights Exploding across the heights Of the night With kaleidoscopic might Canes Venatici howls at the Moon In a rapid sprint of starry legs; mouths drooling like a loon Glimmering as it sparks across the heavens Dogs escaped from their dens Hunting Columba, dove of peace, risen once again
Front paws splashing across black waters Striking fear into our sons and daughters As it chases down the pure white Of tranquillity but never seems to take a bite As if the road just becomes longer Each time it comes closer Like the ocean's tide pulling it in but out further
And I feel the power of God Almighty Jesus Christ as He stamps his rod And the dogs stop At the sound of a lion's shattering roar
Some legends are told Some turn to dust or to gold But you will remember me Remember me for centuries And just one mistake Is all it will take We'll go down in history Remember me for centuries (Hey yeah, oh hey, hey yeah) Remember me for centuries
And I can't stop 'til the whole world knows my name 'Cause I was only born inside my dreams Until you die for me, as long as there's a light My shadow's over you 'cause I am the opposite of amnesia And you're a cherry blossom You're about to bloom You look so pretty, but you're gone so soon
Some legends are told Some turn to dust or to gold But you will remember me Remember me for centuries And just one mistake Is all it will take We'll go down in history Remember me for centuries (Hey yeah, oh hey, hey yeah) Remember me for centuries
We've been here forever And here's the frozen proof I could scream forever We are the poisoned youth
Some legends are told Some turn to dust or to gold But you will remember me Remember me for centuries And just one mistake Is all it will take We'll go down in history Remember me for centuries (Hey yeah, oh hey) We'll go down in history (hey yeah) Remember me for centuries

Author's Note: If anyone knows how to create a blackout poem and how to upload it here I would be very happy to hear from you. Thank you for any help that may be given!
Under the darkness of night Where all things bright Fade away And they finally lay Me down to die Started preparing a lie And dealing out their cards Like the lazy bunch of retards They had always been Only smart enough to run once they had been seen Leaving me limp in a puddle of my blood Like a scarlet red flood Their footprints imprinted where they had stepped in it They expected to get away but it would be a bit Before the chase started Guns pulled out, just to be carted Slack and lost in the seas of Hell
Under the darkness of night Where all things bright Fade away I wait for May A new Spring dew And a laughing dove To tear at my unfiltered love Because How can I care for this world without laws Where we swear Like a mighty black bear That's just a big fat Oaf scared of a rat Because How can I care for this world without laws Where we kill And leave them naked on the window sill Because How can I care for this world without laws Where we steal And deal And break every bone in a man's Body just for his empty cans Because How can I care for this world without laws Where we're really alone And call for help as if we're a clone As if the real us Is imperfect and deserves to be kicked off the bus Because How can I care for this world without laws And love My perfect dove To infinity Without entirety And safety And rules to set us straight
