“Me too.” Ky nodded, not quite able to find a smile for her. She supposed in a sense it was good Zander was gone. Especially now that she knew Septimus and Michael were on the prowl. But it still felt bad.
She hesitated as they got to the second floor. Should she walk to the office to verify they were alone? She felt like that would make Gaius feel better, whether he’d admit it or not. She turned into the hall.

Ky forced a little smile, but it was clearly forced. “It’ll be nice to have him back.”
Wait. Could… he see ghosts? Could he fight them? He’d give Michael the thrashing of this lifetime or next if he could. Huh. She’d need to ask Gaius about that. Well. The first half.

“Mm… that’s… a nice hope,” she said mildly. A naive one. But she wouldn’t grudge Sara at least a bit of hope for the future, even though she’d lost all of hers.
