A Game of Worlds and Chaos

A nurse opened the door. "Are you Mr. Lee's family?"

“Yes, I’m his nephew.” Will smiled at the nurse like :} and tried to peek inside.

The nurse nodded. "Come in, then."

Hev was curled on the bed, still refusing to uncover his ears. Everything was still so, so loud.

Will rushed over. "Um, hi, Uncle Lee. A-are you alright?" He winced. Hev was clearly very much not alright. "Is there anything I can help with?"

Hev looked up at Will, gritting his teeth. “It’s too… too much. The lights are too bright and it’s too loud. London could never be this loud.”

"Oh no." Will glanced around for the nurse. "When-- when can my uncle be discharged? He doesn't do well with noise and lights." Although from pictures Will had seen of London, it had seemed brighter and even more lively than the hospital...

The nurse sighed. “We need to cast his arm, but he hasn’t let us touch him.”

Will glanced at Hev nervously. Could they pass off Hev's different anatomy as his whimsy, or...? "H-how long would it take to put on the cast?" Will asked.

"About half an hour once we get the x-ray."

Will gulped. The x-ray... This hospital had a lot more high-tech equipment than the one at Dewspire, so who knew how much they could discover? What if Hev's anatomy was radically different? Whimsies were usually quite minor, and they might wonder why they hadn't heard of Hev before, with such a unique whimsy... "A-actually, could I have some private time with my uncle, please?" Will leaned in towards the nurse. "He doesn't like to admit it, but he's terrified of x-rays."

The nurse glanced at Hev and sighed. “You have ten minutes.”

The nurse stepped outside, and Will quickly whispered, "Hev, should we get out of here? They're going to take an x-ray of you, and I'm afraid of what they might see."

Hev took a deep breath. “I’m not human. They know I’m not human.”

"Okay. Okay. Let's get out of here, then." Unfortunately, that was easier said than done. Will glanced around the room, his eyes landing on a small window opposite the doorway. "Think you could get out of that window?" he asked hopelessly.

“My wings are fine.” Hev slowly uncurled, his hands still securely over his ears.
