On August 8th, YWS will be holding another open-mic session! That means poetry readings, flash fiction shout-a-thons, and more indie music. The times are below.

What can you contribute? You could read a poem or a piece of flash fiction, sing something you wrote, showcase your musical talents, etc. The choice is really up to you. All I ask is that you send me a PM sometime between now and August 8th just to let me know what you will be contributing. That way, we'll both know beforehand what to expect!

The show itself will last for 1 hour, although we can extend it if I get a lot of responses for the open mic stuff. Because of this, please send me a PM asap if you're interested in doing something. That way, we can fit everyone in without scheduling conflicts. Otherwise, I may have to turn some people away.

You call into YWS radio and do something. Sing, read a poem, play an instrument (just make sure the phone is close enough it picks up the sound!) or just "shout out" to YWSers you think deserve a special mention. :)

If you play an instrument, you may want to test it out before-hand to make sure the sound waves aren't distorted.

Often times the programmed reverb levels on digital instruments (keyboards/elec. guitars with amps, etc.) will magnify several times over on the phone or Skype or whatever you're using to communicate and create a horrible disturbance in the sound quality. Acoustic instruments have less of an issue with this, but it still wouldn't hurt to give it a test-run.

If we sing, do we have to sing something we wrote ourselves?

As far as I know, no. There were people who sang copyrighted songs last show.

Aww! This sounds fun! Count me in as an addition to the audience :) I'd read something, but I seem to have lost my voice. Don't worry, I'm sure I'll find it eventually.

Well, it really depends on if you have a cord phone or not. I'm assuming Twitter used a cordless, because her sound was really good, and if you use a keyboard, that works, too. I've found that if you sit the phone on top of a real piano, you get the best sound. I could be wrong, but that's what I've found over the years. as for stringed instruments, sit the phone on a table and play so it's facing you. That's about it... So yeah!!
