The Young Writers Society will be going down for scheduled maintenance on (adjusted to your local time).

The downtime is required so that I can easily convert the character encoding for various database tables from utf8 to utf8mb4. The difference between these is that utf8 can only store 3-bit characters, while utf8mb4 can store 4-bit characters. In practical terms, utf8mb4 can store emojis but utf8 cannot. Thus, this maintenance is necessary to enable emojis.

The aim of this is to reduce the number of post submission errors so that when you submit a review or post with an emoji in it, the submission goes through rather than failing.

Nate... what have you done? You’ve given @niteowl more weapons to use. There will be no survivors.
“I can't go back to yesterday because I was a different person then."

"The trouble with Borrowing another mind was, you always felt out of place when you got back to your own body, and Granny was the first person ever to read the mind of a building. Now she was feeling big and gritty and full of passages. 'Are you all right?' Granny nodded, and opened her windows. She extended her east and west wings and tried to concentrate on the tiny cup held in her pillars."
— Terry Pratchett, Discworld: Equal Rites
