Contests
====================================

------------------------------------
Contest #1: YWS News
------------------------------------

You have until 1st August 2010 to come up with a News Article that can fit absolutely anywhere into YWS News. BenFranks will then read through all the entries and pick out the best of the best.

First place gains a YWS t-shirt and Young Writers Literary Journal (YWLJ). Second place goes home with a YWLJ. Third place is provided with a pat on the back.

Contest #2: Bartleby Snopes
------------------------------------

Compose a short story entirely of dialogue. You may use as many characters as you want. Your entry must be under 2000 words. Your entry does not have to follow standard rules for writing dialogue. Your entry cannot use any narration (this includes tag lines such as he said, she said, etc.). These are the only rules. Manipulate them however you see fit.

A minimum of $290 will be awarded, with $250 going to first place and $10 to four honorable mentions. The deadline is September 12, 2010.

Contest #3: Children's Story
------------------------------------

This is open to only those in the UK & Ireland, and only those 18 or under. Send an original and unpublished writing in 1000 words or less using one of five provided writing prompts.

Prizes are awarded by age category, with the top prize in each category being £150. The deadline is October 31, 2010.

Contest #4: Bard Fiction Prize
------------------------------------

This is open to all writers 39 and younger, but probably more suitable for those who are at least 20 years old. The Bard Fiction Prize is awarded to a promising, emerging writer who is an American citizen aged 39 years or younger at the time of application. In addition to the monetary award, the winner receives an appointment as writer in residence at Bard College for one semester, without the expectation that he or she teach traditional courses. The recipient gives at least one public lecture and meets informally with students.

First place walks away with $30,000. Worth a try, right? The deadline is July 15, 2010.

------------------------------------
Contest #5: RandomHouse

The prize of a book contract (on the publisher’s standard form) covering world rights for a hardcover and a paperback edition, including an advance and royalties, will be awarded annually to encourage the writing of contemporary young adult fiction.

The award consists of $1,500 in cash and a $7,500 advance against royalties. The deadline is December 31, 2010.

Faery Anthology

The concept behind Rebel Books LLP is the need to produce books which are compulsive reading for children and young adults, with an emphasis on new, up and coming writers. We want to publish books we would like to read ourselves, with the stress on quality rather than quantity. We are aiming to produce something out of the ordinary.

Currently accepting submissions for a Faery Anthology, but submissions close in August so hurry up!

====================================
On July 11 at 10pm GMT (that's 11pm in London and 6pm in New York City), the Young Writers Society will have an open-mic radio show. During this time, you can share a poem you wrote or a poem you just really like, a piece of flash fiction, a song, etc. If you'd like to participate, just reply to this newsletter with your idea. Remember, this is open-mic so anything goes as long as it's clean!

Hi! I'm a business woman in need of fiction writers for a new undertaking. To that end, I've set up a contest and would love help spreading the word. Contestants can submit entries through September 31, 2010, and the winner will receive $50. The details of the contest are at the following website: http://eastofmina.wordpress.com/2010/07/28/1842/

Thank you!
