Week 3

Did you know that chickens are banned from crossing the road in the country of Georgia? Did you also know this post by Nate is older than at least five YWS moderators? It's crazy to even think about!

On this day of Social Month, we want you to unleash any (and we mean any!) family-friendly facts that you've been dying to tell people but just haven't found the right time to! Family-friendly means no curse words, nothing explicit, or basically any fact you wouldn't want your grandma to learn.

Today's event is to share any interesting, bizarre, or totally unbelievable fact you know on your wall with the hashtags #randomfact and #socialmonth!

And don't forget this activity counts towards the Social Month Participation Badge! For questions about this event, please contact looseleaf.

February 20 - 21

Week 3

I hope you've all had a wonderful Resources and Community Week! Did you make new friends? Learn others' deepest darkest lies and truths? Learn some new #randomfacts? We hope so! To end our week, we've got one final challenge for you to take an even deeper dive into new and old friendships alike.

The last event of this week is to find and comment on a friend's resources post. You can pick from any of the 6 resources subforums (see spoiler below). Try to find a thread with five or fewer responses but any will work if the one(s) you want to comment on already have more responses than that. Can't find one by a friend? Then comment on any thread with 5 or fewer responses!

Spoiler! :
~You can pick from any unlocked thread in any of these six subforums~

Important note: do not spam resources threads, please! I know sometimes it can be fun to get carried away with your friends, but it's best to leave complete nonsense in Randomosity. Please stay on topic and make your comments constructive as you're replying. That being said, of course, you can and should have fun with it! Just make sure your fun stays within the spirit of whatever thread you choose ^-^

February 22-24

Week 4

Welcome to the first activity brought to you by the Gen Lit crew! This week our focus is the prose-y and generally literary part of the site!

We're starting off with a game: Quote Guessing!

How this will work is that you can PM @Liminality some short quotes from your works-in-progress WIPs! If you don't have a story or novel in progress, you can PM a quote from something you've finished writing, or you can send a line from a poem (just one line, so that it's harder to guess :D).

We'll jumble up the quotes and post about 7 of them at a time in the People's Tab with the tag #quoteguessing. Anyone who sees the post can try guessing which YWSers wrote what! The answers will be posted in a comment to the original post in spoilers later on in the day.

Make sure to keep the content of your quotes family friendly, so that everyone can play the game :]

    Family friendly means . . .
    - no heavy violence (e.g. pillow fights are okay, but no blood or anything you might see in a non-PG13 Hollywood movie)
    - no heavy romance, because this is about celebrating our friends
    - keep topics light-hearted (i.e. more like "The Tiger That Came To Tea" than "Moby-Dick; or, The Whale")

Note: It's alright if the work overall has some violence in it etc., just make sure you choose a quote that doesn't describe or mention it!

The final day for submitting quotes will be Feb 23rd so that all the rounds of the game will be uploaded by Feb 24th (though you can feel free to continue guessing afterwards).

Keep an eye out on Feb 23rd also for some hashtags you can participate in!

Week 4

Aloha Young Writers!! I'm sure you guys have been having a blast this Social Month, but I hope you are ready to saddle up and fasten your seatbelts. Because now, its time for the second challenge this week, brought to you by Gen Lit crew! Now....*drumroll please!*

Its....time to play tag! Yes, you've got it right! Its time to revive Review Tag! Here's how it works: Review a literary work and then ask another person to review a work of your choice. If they don't accept your challenge, they owe you 100 points or a chicken joke! Make sure to use the #ReviewTag hashtag in your wall post challenging the YWSer of your choice.

If you are not up for reviewing right now, and just want to have some fun in this last week of social month, then here's another great alternative for you! Describe a user in a sentence (#inasentence) with a quote from your favorite book. It can also be from a work you have published or even a work in progress! But please, make sure to keep your quotes family-friendly!

Of course, you are more than welcome to participate in both challenges! They are open all week, so come on people! This social month, let's celebrate all the awesome writers here and their stories!

February 24-26

Week 4

Whoo I hope you've all been having fun with Gen Lit's week of Social Month so far!! (How many quotes have you guessed/are you ready to guess? Did you end up telling any chicken jokes? Or perhaps, have you found a quote that describes a ywser just perfectly?) But if you weren't able to participate yet, no worries! This week isn't over, and Gen Lit has more awesome activities planned! ^-^

Starting from today until February 26, you are hereby encouraged to use an #imitateme hashtag and post some key elements of your writing style on your wall so other ywsers can write something imitating you! For example, you could describe a certain character you like to write, or mention recurring themes in your poetry, or post a link to a work that you think shows your style well! (Though as always, please keep everything family-friendly! That means no links to works that are above 12+, and nothing violence-heavy or something you wouldn't want your little cousin to read :])

As for the writers doing the imitating, feel free to either post your writing on the original posters' wall, or publish a work and send the link to the original person! Try to imitate their style as best you can, but don't worry if a little of your own flair slips in~ perhaps you'll discover a cool new mash-up style! And most of all, have fun!! C:

Week 4

Calling all writers! Have you ever gotten a review that made you go "ooh!" with a new idea, or that brought some super-helpful tips or a fresh perspective? Is there a reviewer who's been keeping up with all your chapters that you want to shout a million thank-yous to? Well, today you're encouraged to do exactly that! (Okay, perhaps not exactly-- a million is a lot-- but you get the idea :P) Your challenge is to write a thank-you note to a reviewer you appreciate!
That reviewer can be someone who's reviewed one of your works, or someone you've seen around the site that you'd like to thank! And just to spice things up a little, perhaps you'd like to try writing a thank-you note from the point of view of one of your characters? ;) It's up to you how you'd like to write your thank-you note(s), but be sure to give yws's amazing reviewers all the respect and appreciation they deserve! :D

Oh, and that's not all! Is that another challenge I see?

Green Room Queries! This fine day, all ye brave ywsers are charged with the noble task of riding into the treacherous wildernesses of the Green Room and posting friendly inquiries on the works of your fellow ywsers! Ahem. In other words, find people whose works are in the Green Room and ask them questions about their works as encouragement to keep writing! Bonus points if the work's been in the Green Room for a while :D

And if you're feeling up to it, why not drop off a review as well? If you become a Knight of the Green Room, you can also earn great treasures (and fancy badges!) as you embark on/continue your reviewing journey! :]

Finally, as with the previous double challenge of #ReviewTag and #inasentence, you are absolutely welcome to participate in one or both of thank-you notes for reviewers and Green Room Queries! They'll be open all week~ ^-^

February 27th - February 28th
Week 4

We are nearing the end of the social month and can look back on a great month full of joy and fun. But we can still look forward to a new hashtag! This time your creativity is asked!

Have you always wanted to be the hero with your friend and have a short adventure? Have you both always wanted to fly into space or do something quite mundane, like play a prank on the teacher? Or do you just want to write some tiny story where you could tag a friend?

Then now you have the opportunity to do so with the #ywsstories and #socialmonth! Write a family-friendly short story where you and your friends are the heroes of an epic adventure! Or do you just want to enjoy a nice afternoon with ice cream during summer? It´s up to you!

So, what are the rules of family-friendly?
- no heavy violence (e.g. pillow fights are okay, but no blood or anything you might see in a non-PG13 Hollywood movie)
- no romance, because this is about celebrating our friends
- keep topics light-hearted (i.e. more like "The Tiger That Came To Tea" than "Moby-Dick; or, The Whale")

How do you participate? Write a short story with both hashtags and post it on your wall. Feel free to tag your friends to show them what you are going to experience and encourage them to participate!

Wake up and get started! #ywsstories
