USA: Ad - ver - tize - ment (the i is a long i, as in I)

England: Adver - tis - ment (short i, as in Christmas)

When I heard Tony Blair say this word, I was SOOO confused...
Ubi caritas est vera, Deus ibi est.

"The mark of your ignorance is the depth of your belief in injustice and tragedy. What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the Master calls the butterfly." ~ Richard Bach

That's funny, Griff.

Guess this is why I've never been completely sure how that word is spelled. But in Canada you get a healthy mix of British, Canadian and American. We use spellings and words from both countries. Not sure if toque is a Quebec French word or if they use it in France, but as far as I know, chesterfield is ours.

Personally, I prefer spelling words like "colour" instead of "color." It just looks better.
Please, sit down before you fall down.

To me, it just seems like when you put the "U" in Color, it seems like it would be pronounced like "kuh-leeor" instead of "kuh-lor."

And flashlights do flash. They flash on and off. Doesn't a torch have to like, have a fire for it to be a torch?
when there's nowhere to go, it's time to grow up.

A flashing torch would be useless ;).

Snoink: I pronounce it the 'american' way. So does everyone I know. It's probably more to do with Blair's accent.
I wrote the above just for you.

I say jim-jams anyway XD. Pyjamas is better though. I always get annoyed with the pronunciation of yogurt. Makes me ANGRYYYY!! yoe-gurt....yoh-gurt. I say the 2nd one 'cause it sounds better. Mmmmm.

Did you know Shakespeare invented the word "bump" and "assassination"? Well, at least that's what my homework planner tells me.
"Sometimes we see a cloud that's dragonish,
A vapour sometimes like a bear or lion,
A towered citadel, a pendant rock,
A forked mountain, or blue promontory,
With trees upon't that nod unto the world,And mock our eyes with air.."

And it was in November....
