Novella Word Count?

I've never wrote a novella before and I'd to give it a try. Problem is I don't know what the respected word count is considered novella material.

I've a new story begining to brew, and it all began from a title of one book. Now, I'd like to give it a novella a shot and see what happens.

I would say anywhere between 15k-80k, which I guess is kind of far out because 80k is a lot, but when you consider that a lot of novels published now range somewhere around 200k, if not way, way more than that. I'm not sure you need to worry about word count. A novella is just too big to be a short story and too small to be a novel. Poor novella needs a place!
