Thanks Ro and Aux! I've always read it as "soeur"in my head. The (what I call third) R sound is pretty usedin Tamil as well.

You're right, it does sound a lot like soeur! (Where I live, that sounds the same, I've picked up the accent >.<)

Phonics is a whole new language to learn and it's basically nothing but where your tongue is and what your lips are doing. It's really useful for pronunciation stuff once you know what to do with your mouth.

Hey Aux! I'm learning introductory (well actually I'm learning intermediate but I'm still sorta still at introductory level ) so I was wondering if you have a surefire way f knowing when to use passe compose or the imparfait?

Also do you know any easy books to read in French?

O-er conjugasion >.< okay, I have to admit that I am really not the best at naming tenses or saying when to use them... and I'm very much afraid that I go by instinct when I use them now, so I'm really not much help >.> I'm so sorry :'( I really want to help, but I'm really not sure

I may not be as good as aux here but I'm pretty sure if it's continual, description or about to be interrupted it's imparfait and totally read bonjour tristesse by francoise Sagan!

The passe compose is used with actions that have already happened. For example: Hier soir, j'ai fait les devoirs. Or, last night, I did my homework. The imparfait is more common. It is mostly used for descriptions, emotions, and continuing actions in the past. For example: Il etait chaud. Or, it was hot. You wouldn't say: Il a ete chaud. That wouldn't make sense.

Hey Stori! I have to say that most of the God-related exclamations I have heard have been those two, though maybe used in a sarcastic manner, and a bit outdated:
"Thank God" would be "Merci Dieu", or "Merci bon Dieu"
"Praise the Lord" would be "Que Dieu soit loué"
