Favorite Movie based on a piece of literature

What is your favorite movie based on a piece of literature, like a book?

Its a three way tie for me
Green Mile, A Clockwork Orange, Dr.Strangelove
Green Mile was beautiful
Orange was intense, violent, crazy fun
Dr.Strangelove is such a great comedy

Hmm I'll have to agree with you with a Clockwork Orange, because the movie is almost just as fantastic as the book.
Oh, and 2001: A Space Odyssey too!

All the books of Nicholas Sparks

The Lord of the Rings. Although they omitted a LOT of details, it was still aMAYzing

Swiss Family Robinson. The book was great... the movie was even better! (course, I haven't seen it in years...)

I'm not sure if this counts but The Avengers and the Iron Man trilogy. I'm also madly in love with the Batman Trilogy!

Well... I don't know about that. I get mad at the kids in the summer reading programs who get their four hours in or whatever by reading comics... seems sort of like cheating to me.

It is, but thats just cheating.

Stanley Kubrick was a master at adapting written work. It's easy to see as he us such a celebrated and unique director, and none of his movies are original. Excluding his 2 small notings in his debut, they are all adaptions.

Several of his films are already mentioned here, but I'm going to go with The Shining.

LOTR is also among the best adaptions. There are so many.

A recent one was Cloud Atlas, which seemed like such a hard novel to adapt, but they did it. Brilliantly.

@Birkhoff He made the hardest films to adapt (The Shining, Lolita, Dr Strangelove, 90% of his films) and he made them good. My first movie I seen of his was The Shining. I'm a HUGE Stephen King fan boy.

DrStrangelove Nice, I was actually going to mention Fight Club, it's an amazing adaption. Adaption is also good.

However, I think Jackie Brown is terrible. I used to dislike Tarantino, because I loved his debut Reservoir Dogs, but between that and 2009s "Inglorious Basterds" I thought he only made sub par movies.

But he has two fantastic films in a row now though, as I said, Inglorious Basterds as well as Django Unchained.

It's Tarantino. I like Blaxtopian films, I thought it was decent. To be honest, I only like one part. The reason why it is my favorite is that he put it in a different genre overall. I hate True Romance. That is my least favorite film of all time. I can't finish it. He also wrote The Muppets Of Oz, etc. Some of his work are sub par (Death Race) then some of his are great (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction,Django, Inglourious.) I do kind of agree with you though.
