"There was a girl there, standing on the edge. A grim and determined look was on her face, and Eli didn’t have to read her mind to know what she was about to do.
“Don’t jump!” he yelled hoarsely. “Don’t jump!” The girl didn’t seem to hear him… no emotion registered on her face. That’s when Eli saw the demon. A crouching, goblin like creature with wide dark eyes. It sat on her shoulder, whispering into her ear.
Eli dropped his backpack and ran. He sprinted over to the side of the building and leaped up to the access ladder that would lead him to the roof. He couldn’t seem to climb fast enough. Finally he pulled himself up onto the roof and stopped. The demon was crouching on the ground in front of him, and it curled its lips in a snarl. The thing was tiny, but Eli knew he had to be careful when breaking whatever control it had on the girl."
He felt himself pulled in immediately, down below the surface of dark waters. He was drowning, finding nothing to breath as the fear and depression closed in around him. Blackness swallowed him, and his vision darkened. His will to fight began to slip away…
