hopefully this is, uh, all right???

Javert

Linda, the daughter of the Gaea's captain, had announced earlier to the crew in her long, drolling voice that they were headed towards the Helion. The crew was bristling with excitement, being a rather excitable group of people, often loopy from the food and long periods spent traveling through space. Though few on the ship would actually be allowed into the conference.
Javert had been pestering one of the engineers when Linda's voice came on, "Change of course, three-four-oh, mark seven. Helion Republic Embassy station...Yay."
"That time of year again," the engineer had remarked, Javert only nodded. His parents had been talking about the Helion, and how it was probably going to be coming up. He'd asked them if he could go this year, to which they just laughed.

He was now standing on one of the decks farther up, one with floor-length windows wrapped around the ship. A lot of the decks had these, and Javert always thought the designers intended the Gaea to be more of a cruise ship than what it was actually used for -- exploration, transport and, commonly, fighting. And it very well might be true, the ship was old, the only updated technology being refitted engines and weaponry, which got replaced on a nearly annual basis.
They were just docking, after spending several hours getting through the line and various processes, and Javert had his nose pressed to the cool, glass-like pane. If he looked up, he could see where people were boarding the station just a deck above, though he couldn't see inside. He imagined the captain walking through, and his parents following close behind. He glanced at the station again, and before he could give it a second thought, he was heading up a maintence tunnel.
Over the years, Javert had learned roughly the ins and outs of the Gaea. He knew the winding spiderweb of the maintence tunnels practically by heart -- though he still gets confused and lost every now and then -- and soon enough he was crawling out of a hatch in the ceiling and dropping into a small crowd. A few people turned their heads, noticing him, but they merely shrugged him off as soon as they spotted his belt, assuming he was an engineer or someone who was at least supposed to be there.
He stayed low as he wound through the crowd, tripping over only a few people's feet, until he found another small hatch at the other end of the room, which went into the area above the boarding tunnel. He said excuse me a few times, and wiggled his way up into it, disappearing from the crowd before anyone could realize what he was really up to. As he crawled through the tunnel, pushing past wires and squeezing himself through a few particular tight spaces. Eventually he found the end, and dropped down into a room with no crowd. Boarding had begun, but papers still had to be gone through, and no one was through the tunnel just yet. In fact, there wasn't anyone around, which both relieved and freaked Javert out. He looked around a bit, wondering where he should go, before taking off in one direction, deciding he didn't actually care where he wound up.

--

"A Kryon Cultist Fleet is attacking the station! All crew members to your ships immediately!"

Javert had been casually strolling with a group of people, pretending he was going wherever they were going when suddenly the announcement rang in his ears. The Gaea hadn't encountered Cultists in over three months, and he'd gotten used to the peace. His reaction was slow, and he didn't know his way back to the ship, not to mention he was scared out of his mind. Ultimately, he ended up scrambling around, tripping and falling until he met one of them. Relying on instinct, he grabbed whatever he could out of his belt and fired it at the cultist without hardly thinking.
Unfortunately, it was a flashlight.

The cultists was better armed, and Javert struggled to jump out of the way as he was fired at. He felt a sharp sting on his ear, and could smell singed hair as he ran behind a corner and grabbed whatever he could use as a weapon. He heard rapid footsteps coming round the corner, and leaned out a bit to fire at the thing. His weapon, a supposedly Extremely Precise laser beam he'd gotten from an engineer, sputtered a bit and turned off, and Javert ducked back behind the wall as the cultist grazed his ear again.
"Come on, you're not gonna have an ear soon enough," he muttered to himself, and jumped as the cultist suddenly came round and aimed at him. Javert was quicker, though, and fired whatever doohickey he was holding at the moment, which had a much greater effect than the flashlight or other thingamajig. The cultist exploded, though little did Javert know that that wasn't his weapon's doing, and what he had actually aimed at the thing was deodrant.
The lights came back on shortly, and Javert noticed that an alarm had been ringing when it suddenly turned off.

"Hey!" Javert turned sharply as he heard someone shout, "What are you doing down here?"
"Oh, I uh..." Javert stumbled over his words, and over the air as he tried walking towards the guy. The Guy got there first, though, and immediately slapped Javert on the side of his head.
"Kid! Your hair's on fire, what's wrong with you?"
"I-"
"Come on, we'll find you a medic, jeez," before he could protest, Javert was being led away by the Guy, still disoriented and tripping over his own feet.
frickdamn, son.

Daahil "Sledge" Delendur

The situation, as Daahil could gather, had gone as followed. The Cultists had made a pathetic attack, resulting in a short power outage, probably from an EMP. In his mind, many questions were raised. For instance, any attack backed by an EMP should have had at least done some real damage. But it didn't. And what was almost worse was the fact that the Helion Republic still expected him to go back to watch the meeting. So much for being home for dinner. They hearded him back into his seat in the room, and out of the corner of his eye he caught sight of a Jerdaach woman, just kind of lolling around the meeting room. Somehow he got the feeling she wasn't supposed to be their. He grimaced as she made her way calmly, and without resistance, to the back of the room to take her seat next to nobody. It was totally empty back there. Figures... Helion security would let this kind of thing happen. After all, they were caught unawares by a Cultist attack. Daahil's crew would have caught it a mile away... Stop it. You've got to listen to what this Helion moron has to say. he thought, as an old man hammered delicately on the podium with his bejewled Gavel.

"Allies!" he began. "You were summoned today for more than simply another decades renewals. Although, we will be getting to the renewals and revisions of treaties soon enough, there is a more pressing matter to attend." Daahil almost laughed. Those treaties were never really revised. They may have been when this system started out, but pretty soon it was just an annoying, unnecesarry precaution. Pretty much everyone just skipped over the treaty, and signed it for the millionth time, just to get it over with.

"Kryons were reported to have developed a new mutation. They are getting smarter. We fear that this could lead to them actually aquiring technology. Furthermore, their central colony has expanded almost half again since last decade. Trying to kill them off just hasn't been working. The Jerdaach and Ard'ekk have been working on a virus to kill them, but they mutate too fast. We have to Hole them." said the Senator. His voice turned slowly to lead as he reached the end of his statement. Hole them? What that meant was, if Daahil was correct, they would fire a Hole Charger missile into them. What this did was basically create a massive black hole. It was used in small scale warfare before, but recently a weapon that was released by a Jerdaach who had stolen the design from an overly trusting D'oord expert had created the most enourmous black hole known to the universe. It swallowed several galaxies, seriously compressing the universe, causing several situations that lead to a near extinction in several small races. The explosion afterwards created a dark sphere where there was nothing for a few years. This was something that nobody wanted to hear, and several people gasped aloud.

"Somehow, Senator, I think that will do more harm than good." Daahil said. He couldn't just let this happen. There were several Kryon Colonies. Such that if you looked at the universe like a petri dish, the little specs of bacteria would be all the little Kryon Colonies, squirming around.

"We have no choice. What we do have is a metric shit ton of these Hole Charges. I'm not going to just sit down and watch these Kryons just keep multiplying. And if we don't do something... The universe could literally become a giant Kryon Colony." he said.

"How are you going to do it? You can't possibly think that it'll just take one Colony to break them?" asked captain Blacksung. Great fucking question.

"Captain Blacksung is right. You're gonna have to hit all of them. How will you even find them all?" said Daahil.

"I agree with captain Delendur." said Za Blacksung. She looked at Daahil as if to say I got you. Daahil returned her gaze, but couldn't help but jerk his head back in what was almost alarm at what the senator said next.

"You will. I'm personally making the Kryon Extermination project a main priority. You will mark the Colonies with tracers that are being shipped onto all of your ships as we speak. You will track them, and we will shoot them down. Simple as that." Several people cried out in shock.

"Senator, with all due respect, that is a very risky plan, for which there is alot of room for failure." said someone else. Daahil looked and recognised Captain Blackheart of the Dawn Treader. But the senator merely put his hand up for silence, tapping his stupid little gavel on the podium.

"Treaties and Articles will now be reviewed, revised, and renewed at this time."

After the signing of many an electronic document, Daahil made angrily to the loading bay where his second in comand, Rudy had sent his pod. He got in and boarded his ship.

"What's the situation, Captain?" said Rudy.

"There gonna Hole the Kryons. Did any ammo come in from the Helion Station?" said Daahil.

"Yeah, but they looked alot more like trackers than missiles. They actually had barbs in them. Captain..."

"We're going hunting. But first, I wanna talk to the other Muorrok captains."

"Yeah, sure thing Captain." said Rudy. "I'll open a line up to Captain Blacksung."

"Thanks, Rudy."

Delphina Calen

Why am I here? The meetings are never full of action, and these people don't much care for elves, she thought to herself. Sure, I came with my unit. Sure, there was an Embassader. So why am I on this ship, instead of ours, protecting my charge? It's bad enough to order me away from my squad. To be here working on engines is bad enough, but to have gotten that particular note, with that jab at the Recycler... Someone has it in for me. She sighed, and mentally flipped through a list of spells in her head. She nodded to herself, and welded a pipe back together so the pressure would stabilize. How hard is it to work your own engines anyway? I mean, there's got to be some degree of competence in the great Muorrok Fleet's engineers. Certainly more than one scrap-monger's experiences.

She sighed as the head engineer began a vicious scolding of her technique. "Ya, well, I'm sorry I didn't go to the Engineering School of Nuclear Physics," she shouted back, as the engine began to rumble. She got out of the interior workings and shut the lid, as the verbal abusist began checking a monitor. He grinned at Delphina, "Well, Miss Elf, it looks like you're to be taking a residence with us for a while."

"What!?!" She ran to check the monitor; they were under attack. She moaned, "Of course they'd do this to me. Stupid Higher Ups and their hidden agenda's"

The engineer nodded, "Ai, they can be quite the politicians. You've been assigned a room. If your smart, you'll stay there." She was handed a access pass and sent on her way. Sighing, she went to look for her room.

Daahil "Sledge" Delendur

Where is she? he couldn't help but ask himself, as they struggled to get a signal through to Captain Blacksung of the Loreley. They had only been at it for half an hour, with no luck. It's no use...

Just as he thought this silently to himself, Rudy voiced his opinion. "It's no use, captain. The signal isn't getting through."

"Why the hell not?!" Daahil asked. "I can see her ship from here!" He gestured out the window of the ship to the Loreley, floating away obliviously. "The signal should be clear as crystal!"

"We came to the same conclusion. We suspect that the Loreley may have sustained some damage to their signal from the attack." said Rudy. That would explain it, if it were likely. And Captain Delendur did not think it likely.

"Fine. Forget it..." Daahil grumbled as he started to make his way back to his quarters.

"Captain?" Rudy said. When Daahil turned around he continued. "What's the plan? Where are we going hunting?"

"I'm not sure, Rudy. I'm not sure." he said. This is suicide, he thought. "We don't owe the Helion Republic the loyalty they assume of us, is the problem. But we do owe it to the universe. The Kryons have got to go."

"I don't know, Captain. I just don't think Holing them will work. They're almost... invincible." he said. He looked down at the ground, his eyes glazing over. "There are just so many of them... there were so many..." but then he shook his head as though in a daze. "I'm sure the crew can take them. We've handled Kryon attacks before."

"I understand that." said Daahil. "But we've never handled attacking their Hives. I have my doubts, and precautions." But Rudy wouldn't have it.

"We can take 'em all, Cap'! You've got the best crew in the universe, I'm telling you, not to mention the best ship. All we gotta do is go in, tag 'em, get out! Piece of cake, right?"

"Kryon's are persistent. Plus, the cultists are still out there..." he said, but his attention turned to the stars. There were so many of them, so far away. They were just pure energy, weren't they? The Hydrogens undergoing some complex fusion, untill eventually each star would explode. That was something he would watch. He wondered how much energy it would take to create a universe?

Before he had noticed it, he had walked back to his quarters. He figured he should get some sleep, but that was before he realized that he hadn't given any orders. He briefly sent a message to Rudy asking him to set a course for the Elven base over their planet. He didn't quite like the elves, but he didn't hate them. Besides, they had the best fuel to be found. Besides, they were quite pretty... they didn't have a hyper drive, so they just cruised there. He took a three hour nap on the way there.

"Ehh!" she grunted, frustraighted, "Work, stupid card!" She punched the door that had the same numbers and got a nice little sense of sensation across her knuckles. By that, I mean her knuckles started smarting, and she cursed out the door. She'd been standing her twenty minutes, and the stupid card wasn't working. She threw the card at the door, where it clattered to the floor, and wondered what she could do more to open the door, pondering crushing the card on the floor. She the flick of her wrist, and a quick finger twist, she got the card to twitch, and jump to her hand from the floor. To which she furiously resumed trying to get the door open. Somebody kill me, she thought to herself, groaning, I'm stuck here, probably because a higher-ep hates me, and on top of that my bloody card key ISN"T WORKING! She through it at the door across the hall, where it slid into a slot. The door's light turned green, and it swung open slowly. She glared at it angrily for a moment, before going to her room and jerking the card from it's jack. She kicked the door closed unaffectionately; her day wasn't going well. She felt the ship change course and collapsed on the bed, surrendering herself to whatever comforts it had to offer.

We were all taken back to the conference for this damned meeting. Again. We were all waiting for this meeting to be over so we could get our asses out of here. He banged that stupid bejeweled gavel.

"Allies!" he began. "You were summoned today for more than simply another decades renewals. Although, we will be getting to the renewals and revisions of treaties soon enough, there is a more pressing matter to attend." Daahil almost laughed. Those treaties were never really revised. It was used in small scale warfare before, but recently a weapon that was released by a Jerdaach who had stolen the design from an overly trusting D'oord expert had created the most enourmous black hole known to the universe. The explosion afterwards created a dark sphere where there was nothing for a few years. This was something that nobody wanted to hear, and several people gasped aloud.

"Somehow, Senator, I think that will do more harm than good." Daahil, captain of The Sledgehammer, said.

I would agree with what he said, because this just seemed like an all around half baked plan.

I almost flew at him. Has he lost his mind? This bastard wants us to go into their colonies and tag them? What the hell was he thinking? This wasn't a simple task he giving us to do. Not 'simple' at all. He had to have lost his mind to cook up a scheme such as this one.

"Senator, with all due respect, that is a very risky plan, for which there is a lot of room for failure." I said, but the senator merely put his hand up for silence, tapping his stupid little gavel on the podium.

"Treaties and Articles will now be reviewed, revised, and renewed at this time."

An absurd amount of electronic document signing later, I headed back to the loading bay where my second in command, Malikai, had a pod waiting for me.

"Leaving so soon?" came a smooth voice.

"The sooner I get away the idiot and his gavel, the better for us all." I turned to face Sebastian.

He comes to a stop in front of me. "Look, about the plan,-"

"Did you know?" I asked

"If I had, I would've to you," he said automatically.

"Really?" I look straight into his eyes.

"Of course I would," he runs his fingers through his hair. "he's practically sending you all to your deaths."

"Damn straight, and I don't like this one bit." I grimaced. "You don't know how close I was to beating him over the head with that dumb ass bejeweled gavel of his."

"If I could I would do something, but-"

"It's ok, Sebastian." I reached up to kiss him on the cheek. "I know."

********************

"So what happened, captain?"

Malikai was waiting for me when I got back to the ship. I really needed to meditate.

"That idiot at the Helion wants us to tag Kryon colonies so he can shoot hole charger missiles at them." I answer stiffly.

"That's doesn't sound like a bad idea." he shrugged.

"I don't think you're getting it." I look at him. "He want us to head into Kryon territory Colonies to tag them."

His face paled.

"Exactly." I shake my head in disgust. "Did we receive anything while I was gone?"

He cleared his throat before answering. "Yes, captain. We just received a large shipment. Is it the tracers?"

I didn't say anything. I headed straight for my quarters, with Malikai following me. What the hell were going to do? This wasn't a good idea. Something about this didn't seem right.

"Malikai, I want you to brief everyone and take over command while I think things through. Can you do that for me?" my fingers run through my hair as I sigh.

"Of course captain!" he salutes.

"Carry on, then." I watch as he heads off.

Just as I set one foot into my quarters, I his voice reaches my ears. "Captain!"

I stop and look in his direction.

"Do you think this'll actually work?" he inquired.

"No," I shook my head. "I don't. But it's the only plan we have, and the Kryons are growing stronger and more persistent, and then we still have to cultists to deal with. This needs to end, and it needs to end now."

"So we should think of it as a quick in and out?" he raised an eyebrow.

"Think of it as you like." I replied.

"Then i'll think of it as a little wham-bam thank you ma'am slash hit it and quit it sort of thing." he smiled.

I laughed my into my room and onto my bed. Pressing a button on the wall, the ceiling disappeared and the stars were brought forth. This is one thing I knew I would never tire of doing. Before realizing it, my eyes drifted closed.

********************

Being pulled awake by the sound of someone banging on your door is not the nicest feeling. I groaned as the banging continued and sat up. What the hell was so important they had to be so rude.

"Captain!" Malikai yelled. "We got a distress call coming in. You're needed on deck!"

That certainly does count as important. I hopped out of bed, pushing the grogginess aside and stepping out of my room before heading off with him. "What's the situation?"

"Got a distress signal from The Poseidon saying they were under attack by the Kryons." he answered as we made our way over.

As we reached the deck, Malikai veered off and went downstairs. I walked up the main deck. "Status update!"

"About five minutes ago we got a distress signal from The poseidon, but when we tried to make contact with them, all we got was static." Malikai came up beside me.

"Why am I just being notified?" I ask.

Malikai's mouth twitched, as if trying not to smile. "You're not a light sleeper."

I cleared my throat and turn back around. "What else?"

"We got another signal from them, which is why I woke you up. We're trying to patch through to them again." he looked up. "Here we go."

A screen appeared above us and against the glass at the front of the ship. A man appeared, covered in sweat, blood, and something that looked like dirt or other. He was human as far as I could tell, though his skin was pale and he had a gash on the side of his head that was still bleeding. He looked so tired. It was too dark to see but a few feet behind him. Nothing but shadows

"This is Leah Blackheart, Captain of The Dawn Treader, what is your situation?"

" This is Captain Jack Ives of The Poseidon. We were tagging a Kryon hive when they spotted us and attacked." he breathed heavily. "I don't know if anyone else made it. I'm surprised i'm even able to communicate."

"Reinforcements are on the way, Captain." I replied.

He sighs heavily. "There's no point. I'll be dead before you get here. There is a much more pressing matter to be dealt with."

The hairs on the back of my neck stood up. "And what would that be?"

"It looks as if they were getting ready, mobilizing. I think they're sending ship out to attack other planets and take them over. Sending coordinates now." he began coughing.

Son of bitch. Are you kidding me this is the last thing we need. I swore as I began furiously typing on the screen in front of me. "Reinforcements are on their way to your location, Captain. Hold on for just a little while longer."

"You must hurry!" he said urgently. "From what I can tell. there is more than one Hive to deal with!!"

And then silence.

"I don't think that will be necessary." Came a deeper voice.

I looked up. The Captain was gone, but there was no one in front of the screen. "Where is he?"

"He....indisposed at the moment." the voice replied.

Just great. "Who are you?"

A giant suit of armor stepped forward, his long metallic tail sliding back and forth behind him . "They call me General Krauld."

"Well, General, would you mind telling me what the hell you're doing on that ship?" My hand tightened on the rail.

"Just having a little fun." his head cocked, as if looking me over. "What is your name, woman?"

"Captain Blackheart." I replied.

"Good bye then, Captain Blackheart."

The screen went black, then disappeared. Shit.

"Somebody get me on with every other captain in the vicinity and it better be within the next goddamn second! And set coordinates for Ives's ship!" I shout and look at Malikai. "Did we get the coordinates?"

He nodded. "Recieved."

Several screens popped up as captains came into view, along with Captain Blacksung and Captain Delendur.

"This better be good, Captain Blackheart." he looked at me.

I moved around the station to the rail to address them. "It seems we have problem."

"Bigger then this damned suicide mission that bastard on the Helion has us going on?" he raised an eyebrow.

"At the moment, yes." I nod. "Jack Ives, Captain of The Poseidon, was on that suicide mission when when they found him out and attacked him."

All of their faces tightened in one emotion or another, as I continue. "I've talked to him, and he told me that they were mobilizing to attack and take out nearby planets as we speak."

Half of them swore and the other half didn't say anything. The look on their faces said it all.

"Mobilize your people and meet me at the coordinates my second in command is sending." I instruct. "This takes precedence over everything at the moment, and with good reason. Are we clear?"

They all nod. I take a deep breath as my hands tighten on the rail. "Then get your asses in gear, and goddess be with us."

The screens went blank. We were about to go to war.
