Rayah

"I'm not thirsty," I lie, walking back inside and throwing on a shirt and pants.

Jace

I hesitate before following her, "Would you tell me if you were?"

Rayah

I shake my head, sitting on the side side of the bed, "This ruined my whole life."

Jace

I sit beside her, taking her hands, "We can get past it. It doesn't change how I feel about you, or the fact I still wanna marry you... It's just a rocky step in the path before us."

Rayah

I look at him, "Jae, I can't have a baby. We...We can't be together because...I live forever, and you don't. You age, I don't."

Jace

I swallow and set a hand on the side of her face, "We'll figure things out. This isn't the end."

Rayah

"It's true though," I look away, "The out whole future...is messed up."

Jace

I scoot closer and wrap an arm around her, "Doesn't matter. We'll figure things out. Just don't give up on us, on me."

Rayah

I look at him, "You don't understand anything do you? There's no chance. The only way is if..." I swallow, "And I'm not going to do that to you."

Jace

I study her before taking my hands back, "I understand a lot of things, Rayah. I don't understand why you won't... why love isn't enough."

Rayah

I sigh, looking down, "I can't change you. That'd kill me, Jae. Just seeing you hurt."

Jace

I study her, swallowing, "I just saw you dead, Rayah..."

Rayah

I glance at him, "And I'll see you dead if I change you."

Jace

I study her, "But we'd be together... forever, Rayah."

Rayah

I swallow, "But what if it doesn't work? What if you die for real, and then I have to live through with doing that to you for the rest of my life?"
