The girl who steps out is beautiful, although she looks a couple of years younger than me. She gives us a quiet greeting and holds out her hand for someone to shake. I step back (I don't want to break anyone Else's hand today.)

"Hi," Isabelle says, shaking the girl's hand for me. "What's your name?"

"Serena," the girl replies after a moment.

"I'm Isabelle,"

"And I'm Rudy," I echo, quieter.

Isabelle continues. "You can call me Is if you want to- ..."

Suddenly my new friend doubles over, gasping and clutching her sides. I look at Serena, frightened. What's happening? Oh, please don't let her be dying or anything.

"Are you okay?" I ask for the second time today, taking a step closer. Isabelle waves me off, gritting her teeth.

"I'll go to the house and ask for help." Serena begins edging towards the massive white building.

"No," Isabelle insists, screwing her face up. "I'm fine."

I shift my weight from foot to foot, biting my lip. Honestly, I haven't any idea what to do in the slightest. Serena stops at Isabelle's request, but she keeps darting glances at the house.

After another minute Isabelle straightens up and smiles weakly. "I think I'm good. Sorry, I don't know why that happened. I'm okay now."

"Are you sure?" Serena asks softly.

"Yes."

"Well, that's good," I say awkwardly, looking at my shoes. Why am I wearing boots? "Uh, what should we do now?"

Merp, over-enthusiasm. I'll slow down on the posting now.

I reach the house in just a few minutes, lavishing in the shade of it. It’s the middle of the day and right now it’s getting pretty hot.

I would kill for a cup of water right about now…

For a moment I lean against the wooden door, listening for any sound to show that there’s anyone walking around inside.

There’s not.

It’s completely silent so I knock; rapping my hand again the solid wood for a few moments.

Nothing.

I turn the wooden handle and it creaks open.

Perfect.

Slowly I walk inside, looking around to find myself in a massive, old-fashioned room.
The floor is marble and shiny- like someone’s been here, polishing it every day- the walls are painted wood and to go with the image there is even a chandelier above my head.

I look around noticing all of the furniture in the big room-it’s generally pretty standard- a big fireplace, one of them old grandfather clocks sitting in the corner, A few leather lounge chairs scattered around the room in a circular fashion with a small coffee table in the middle and the cupboard around the room.

Just then I hear something or someone at the door and freeze on the spot.
The owner? How the hell am I supposed to explain why I’m in his house?

I can’t breathe.
Everything is so dark and so freezing and so ‘HEAVY’ where I am, I can’t even get a breathe out.

Where am I?

I listen, trying to distinguish just one of the million sounds swarming around me.
Something’s rustling and what sounds like birds flutter around me.

Slowly my mind begins to function again and my eyes begin to flutter open.

Light begins to filter in through tiny holes and I force myself to sit up… pushing off a layer of long grass as I do.

No wonder I couldn’t breathe. This stuff weighs a ton… probably more.

Slowly I stand up, expecting to feel a little dizzy from being trapped under the pile of grass for so long but I don’t. I feel good.
Probably because I’m not so cold anymore.

I look around for the first time realising that the pile of grass that I was stuck under isn’t the only grass around here.

Not by far.
The stuff is EVERYWHERE.

In every direction and when I look up it’s basically all I see.

I look down at my clothing -green shorts and a black and white striped singlet top-revelling in the warmth of the sun and feeling glad I’m not wearing jeans or anything.

I start walking, trying to process my thoughts as I do… but I’ve got nothing and when I try to remember back to how I got here my head just starts to throb really badly.

Well there goes plan A… Do I have a Plan B?

I start asking myself questions about what I can remember about myself.

Well I’m pretty sure I’m a girl… y’know.
Name? Tam… Tamra.
Last name? … Nope. I got nothing.
Age: um… 16 I think.

Okay now I have something about myself…

But how did I get here?
Nothing comes to mind.
Why am I here?

For… something. I get a little picture of something in my mind. A distant memory of something but the more I try to reach for it the more it fades.

Suddenly something rustles in the grass right ahead of me and I freeze, my hand instinctively reaching for something at my belt.
I wait. Nothing happens so I look down to see what’s in my hand.

A strange silver dagger…

It’s small, just fitting in my hand but sharp enough to do considerable damage.
I wonder where I got it…
But like usual nothing comes to mind so I put it back in my shorts pocket and keep walking.

I’ll have to get somewhere eventually, right?
The minutes flash by as I walk and just when I’m about to give up or change directions I find a path.

No an actual path but a cut in the grass- like someone has walked here before.
That’s good right? Or better at least.

I won’t be completely alone in the middle of nowhere…

No Tam, says a sarcastic voice in my head, you’ll probably just end up in the middle of nowhere with a bunch of psychopaths.

Great!

I grip the knife tightly in my hand and keep walking, waiting for something to jump out at me.

Kinda daring them to, because even though I don’t know all that much at the moment I know that I can at least handle myself with the knife.

A moment later I stumble out of the grass and find myself in a massive open field… and on the other side of this field is a house.

I start running towards it and end up on their stairs.

Wait, how am I going to explain being on some stranger’s property when I don’t even know how I wound up here myself?

Do the best you can then Tam, says the voice in my head, It’s better than being stuck outside.

Slowly I knock on the door and a little to my surprise It opens under my touch.

I walk inside and run head first into someone who had obviously been waiting somewhere near the door.

My knife clatters across the floor and I push myself to my feet.

“I’m seriously sorry,” I hear myself saying, “But um… were the hell am I?”

I walk over and scoop up the knife shoving it in my pocket.

Just as I’m standing by the door ready to leave at the earliest opportunity a girl comes tumbling through the door way, crashing smack bang into me and falling to the ground. Something sliver flies out of her pocket and across the marble floor.

Slowly she pushes herself to her feet, sending black curls flying over her shoulders, and smiles a little sheepishly, her eyes flaring a fiery green colour.
“Uh… Im seriously sorry,” she says, sounding a little out of breathe, “but um… where the hell am I?”

So she’s not the owner…

Then again I probably should’ve figured that out earlier.
She looks maybe a year younger then I am...

And that’s only 17...
Slowly she picks up the object from the ground- a small silver knife- and shoves it in her pocket.

I shake my head, “I have absolutely no Idea. I just woke up… maybe half an hour ago… in that grass field over there.”

She nods… “Me too. But I woke up under it!”
I notice that she still has grass sticking to her hair, “Yeah…” I say calmly, “It’s still… uh… there.”

She reaches up to pull several stands out of her hair, talking all the while, “So what do you remember? Cause since we both woke up in the middle of nowhere then maybe it’s connected… somehow. “

I shrug, “I remember my name?” I say, all so helpfully and she laughs a little, “Yeah. That’s about as far as I got too.”

I smile a little, shaking my head, “Well, I’m Colt… Or Colton, actually but I kinda got the drift that… um.. Back wherever I was from, people called me Colt.”

I along with several other people were kind of just standing around. Angeltine, the chick i'd just met was standing beside me with her arms crossed over her chest. One of the other people were watching us. The boy named Keiran with black hair and brown eyes. My eyesight was better than almost everyone here, so I could also see the fleck of gold in them. Nice. But I don't like him starring. He walks over, knife in his mouth. I frown.

"What's with the knife in your mouth? That has no practical use whatsoever." I turn toward him.

He shrugs. I shrugged, "I'm waiting for something," I managed to say. I just don't want you to kill me."

I frown again. Why would I kill him?

"What? Spell it out." the girl named Ruby glared.

I sighed, "Have you two seen anything strange in the woods?"

"I said, spell. It. Out." Ruby's hands clenched.

"Something in the woods wants us dead, and one of them is right behind me. We're not alone."

A glowing sword appeared almost instantaneously. Ruby grabbed it, "I don't see anything."

Keiran was just about to reply when something grabbed his arms and forced them to his sides. He pivoted and caught the thing right in between the ribs. It gave a shriek before collapsing on the ground. He turned away and spat out his knife, "Says who?"

Wow. I begin to respond when someone else shows up. The girl named Isabelle steps forwards and smiles."Hi! What's you're name?"

She paused for a moment, then said "Sernena."

"I'm Isabelle. You can call me Is if you want to. . ." Isabelle offers.

And then out of nowhere, Isabelle drops. I move forward to help. She just waves everyone off.

"Are you okay?" I ask, taking a step closer. Isabelle waves me off, gritting her teeth.

"I'll go to the house and ask for help." Serena begins edging towards the massive white building.

"No," Isabelle insists, screwing her face up. "I'm fine."

"Yes."

"Well, that's good," Rudy says. "Uh, what should we do now?"

Good question. I step forward. "Maybe we should go check out the mansion and see if there's someone who can help us out."

I pull my phone out of the place I have it strapped to my hip. No service. Didn't think so, but I just wanted to be certain. Suddenly every hair on my body stood on end. Something caught my attention and my head whipped in that direction. Something or someone was watching us. Most of the silhouette's form was hidden behind a tree. I glared and reached for my whip. It fell to my side as it unrolled and I stepped forward.I lifted it up, and with a flick of my wrist sent it snapping forward with a loud snap. I caught what ever it was by it's throat and hauled it over. It screeched fought against my hold, but I wasn't letting it get away. It fell down before me and hissed. I'm surprised it didn't just attack. A sign it wasn't just some mindless being. The others move in behind me as I kneel down on one knee and look at it's solid black eyes while it watches warily. "Do you understand me?"

It launches forward with an animalistic cry and swipes at me. I dodge the swipe effortlessly and slice it's throat with my Sai. The thing keels over and begins to dissipates with the wind. But before it's swept away, those black eyes lock with mine and it reaches up to touch my cheek. "Gratias ago tibi, tandem ego sum tandem liberum."

My eyes popped wide in shock as I gasped. That's not what I expected. Before I could reply, it melted away.

"What did it say?" someone asks.

"It was finally free." I rolled my whip up and put it back at my hip.

"So it was trapped here?" someone else asked.

"I suppose so." I turn to look at them.

"So what does that mean for us?" Angeltine asks.

I look at her. "Good question, now we just need an answer for it."

We all head for the mansion.

Keiran

I hung back a moment before deciding to follow the lot. Luna seems to clearly know what she's doing. I guess that's a good thing. I retrieved my knife and followed them all the while observing everyone.

I seemed to have unknowingly pissed Angeltine off... somehow. I sighed, maybe we were all supposed to have a rough start. After all, nobody knew each other.

It seems like all we have is whatever we have on us... and each other. Damn.

"It seems like that's everyone." Somebody behind me said. I managed to keep myself from turning around, but I took out one of my knives, just in case. "Keiran, chill!"

Is waved a hand in front of my face, "Hello?"

I blinked a couple of times, disoriented, "Are we here? Or did I space out again?"

She shrugged, "We're here all right, but it looked like you were looking at nothing for a moment."

"Oh that happens." I gave a slight frown. "Not like it matters."

I smile a little, shaking his hand, “Tamra. But y’know ‘I actually I kinda got the drift that people back when I was from where I am from just called me Tam’.”

He starts to smile but then the house starts to shake a little but then something outside the house starts to shudder.

We both run to the open door, peering out to see what’s happening.
In the distance there are people, maybe five or six of the, walking towards the house but just before them there, travelling fast in their direction are a mass of shadows that almost look like people…

A few of the shadows peel back and head in the opposite direction… our direction.
What the hell?
Slowly I pull the dagger out of my pocket holding it in front of me like a shield.
But why? Their just shadows, right? Part of me doesn’t think so. These things could really hurt somebody…
And the closer they get, the colder it seems to become.
Something is burning under my skin, clawing to get free and when I look down at my arm It seems to be glowing just a little.

“What the hell?” Colt mutters beside me, looking every bit like he could fight the shadows creeping slowly towards us.
I lift my head a little and watch the group see their approach as well, what are they going to do?
The shadows get closer, crawling up the stairs until they get to the door, but then they stop…

One tries to push itself through the doorframe… but it can’t seem to manage…
They can’t get in!

They break away, growling softly and for a moment I start to think they maybe are going to leave…

But we’re not that lucky.
One of the shadows start to ‘change’, shifting forms a little, until it a completely different shape.

“What the hell’s it doing?” Colt asks, sounding puzzled and I glance away from it for a second to look at him.

When I look back the shadow is gone and in its place is a little girl with curly black hair and eyes that just seem so familiar.

Because she is!

The shadows begin to close around her and in a second I’m out that door and running down the steps towards them.

2 feet away she changes and I realise my mistake…

It was a trick. The shadows can change…

Suddenly I’m surrounded by darkness, unable to see a thing around me.

NO! THIS IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!

Suddenly light burst up all around me, until I can’t see anything but light and all the shadows are gone from my vision.

Then suddenly the light is gone and my mind comes back to the present to find that the shadows are somehow gone … and so is the grass beneath my feet for a few metres.

What just happened?
I turn slightly to see Colt standing beside me with the knife I must have dropped in his hand.

I gasp, trying to catch my breath and feeling amazingly tired.
“What just happened?” I ask, swaying a little and he lets out a laugh.
“Well you just ran out into the shadows a minute ago and they covered you from head to toe. I thought you were a goner…”

“Yeah,” I find myself saying,” I thought that myself and then there was some strange light everywhere.”

He laughs, “Not light Tam, fire… You were on fire a minute ago… and I mean that literally. I thought you were going to burn to death for a minute but the fire didn’t seem to affect you at all.”

He points at me, “Look your clothes aren’t even charred in the slightest.”
I let out a sigh, “Don’t ask me how that happened. I’ve got absolutely no idea. Um… what happed when I was… uh… on fire.”

He grins, “Well for one I don’t think the shadow things like fire… or any sort of light that much. Some of them just dissolved and most of the others kinda floated away.”

Remembering the other people I turn my head to stare at them, hoping that nobody actually got hurt.
They don’t look it…

Just then everything around me goes black for a minute and I feel myself swaying.

I woke in the middle of a small clearing, face down.  I picked myself up, head spinning and fell back to the ground in a wave of dizziness.  This time I took a minute before I tried to get up, I was still dizzy but I managed to stay upright.  I turned in a circle, edging the clearing was dense forest.  I looked to the sky, it was clear blue and the sun showed that it was either a little before or a little bit past noon, at this point it was impossible to tell.  Still a little dizzy, I sat down to think.  I could remember my name, I could remember facts like what building was and some of,the, tree, names, how to tell time and even TV commercials but I had nothing to connect them to, no memories of anything before waking up in this clearing.  I sat puzzeling over this for a few more minutes before letting out a sigh, "no helping it then." I said to myself as I stood up and dusted myself off.  I paused for a moment before picking a random direction, heading in a straight line.

After about an hour or two of walking, I came across a large clearing with large white house in the center.  The house looked old and unused.  I had come up at the back of the house.  I walked up to the back door and tried the door.  It was unlocked so I made my way inside.  I came in what appeared to be kitchen.  I was thirsty so I stuck my head under a tap and drank deeply.  After I had gotten my fill I paused, something was bothering me.  It took me a minute but then it struck me, the house was in the middle of nowhere so where was the water coming from?  After realising this I took a moment to think and probably would have stayed there for awhile but I heard a knock from the front door followed by faint voices drifting through the house from the front, jolting me from my thoughts. I made my way cauciously down the hall that seemed to be where the voices were coming from. When I reached what appeared to be the front entrance, there was someone standing in the door with a bright light flooding the room through the open door and the windows. After a couple of seconds the light died down and the figure ran outside, leaving me standing in the doorway to the hall, trying to figure out what just happened.

Keiran

"Tam, are you serious?" Rudy asked from behind me, "That's..."

"Tonight or never. We all know that from what Keiran said."

I blinked. When was that supposed to be? I looked at the group chatting with the other people... since they were all engrossed in conversation I decided to sneak up the stairs (they were close to the door, I doubt anyone noticed). I turned and entered the nearest room. A library. I strode in and immediately began browsing... looking for any clue as to where we might be.

Something hit me on the head

I stepped to the side when I the green book was right in front of my face. Sure enough, some red baseball sized thing came flying at where my head used to be.

"Well... seems like we all don't trust each other," I looked away from the books to meet the deep blue eyes of the person here before. "Keiran," I stuck out my hand, all the time eyeing the enormous book he clutched.

I kept my arm over the emerald book, clinging to my chest so tightly the cross under my shirt was probably going to leave an impression when I loosen up. I looked down at my free hand. A red energy field was surrounding my fist. I calmed down and loosened up my fist to use it. "Just call me Rex."
We shook hands. Keiran shook his hand and looked at me in the eye. "Your hand's kind of sweaty, Rex. What are you doing around here? Studying a map or something?"
I growled deeply. "I have a thing for books, mind you. I happen to stumble around and felt more at home here in the library." I found a ladder and climbed up to put the book where it belonged. "As for that ball that almost hit you, that was me. I have this ability to shoot energy blasts, but they vary in size each time I shoot. Because it was red, I almost thought you were someone rather unwelcome to my taste." I climbed back down. "For the record, I'm very much comfortable in the library. It lets me study whatever catches my eye."

I gave a short laugh, "Find anything of use here then? Like maybe where we're located?" He shook his head. I didn't think so... "All I know so far is that Luna's got no signal on her cellphone."

He gave me a puzzled look, "Luna?"

Right. He still needs to meet the rest of the crew. I looked out the door and beckoned to him, "There's more people around here, y'know? I think it'd be best if we meet them..." I frowned.

"What?"

"I think we're missing a person." The one that I "saw" standing behind me and "chatting" with me before Is waved a hand in front of my face.

As we stepped into the mansion I didn't really look around. My mind was preoccupied. Actually still is. I distantly followed where the other went. When I pulled myself out of a trance, I looked around to find myself in a massive library.

"Whoa." I did a full three sixty spin to get a look at the place.

"Hey Luna!" someone called.

I turned to see Keiran waving at me. I walk over where he and someone I haven't seen before are standing. "Yea?"

"Luna," Keiran turned to the starnger. "this is Rex. Rex, this is Luna."

"It's nice to meet you." I hold my hand out.

He reached for my hand and shook it. "Pleased to meet you too."

He looked me over with obvious interest. I did the same. He was shorter than me, and his muscle build was almost non existent. But he had the most beautiful eyes. A blue sop dark they almost looked violet. He was dressed head to toe in black. I could see a gold chain peeking out from under his shirt and the outline of a cross in the middle of his chest. His golden blonde hair was streaked with violet and it didn't look half bad. When I looked back at his face I noticed he was staring at my stomach. He looked back at me and smiled. "Nice six pack."

Then his eyes popped wide like he couldn't believe what he'd just said.

I smiled back. "Thanks. Nice hair."

He blushed slightly. "I like your piercing and tattoos too."

"Thanks." I smiled and turned to Keiran. "Is that it? I wanted to do a little roaming around in here."

"Yea," Keiran nodded. "just wanted you two to meet."

"And met we have." I nod back and look at Rex as I begin to back away. "It was nice to meet you, Rex. Cool name by the way."

He waved at me. "A pleasure."

I winked before dissolving into the rows of books.

Rosy

"Hmmmm now i'm in a field. My name is Rosy. The white house is right in front of me. And...and what?" I mumble to myself as I glance around at the field around me.

I glance down at myself and see that I'm in a cute light blue summer dress. It swishes as i turn around and around in beautiful field. I start running down the hill that I had just woken up on. I seriously don't know why but I open up the back door on the far left of the mansion. It takes me straight into a kitchen. I just let my instincts take over and take out the flour, sugar, chocolate chips, and other ingredients.

" So I'm a chef...awesome!" I mumble to myself with a smile as I grab a chair to get a mixing bowl " And i'm a midget...fml."

As the cookies bake a few people walk into the kitchen and jump, surprised at my intrusion I guess. I blush and address the whole group when I ask " Want some?"

Before the other people get to the mansion Tam and I walk back inside. She’s puffing a little and her already pale skin is blanching to an unhealthy shade of white (Well actually It’s almost blue.).
“Tam?” I ask, steadying her when she almost falls over, “Maybe you should sit down or something. “ She smiles a little weakly and shakes her head, “Nah I’m alright… or I will be in a minute…” Just then I hear a clattering in a room close by and start walking towards it, Tam stumbling after me.

Maybe it’s someone who lives here… maybe they can help us….
We walk into what looks like a kitchen where a girl with really long black hair is bent over a variety of pots and pans making something that looks a little like cookies.

She looks up when we walk in, looking a little startled and wiping a bit of flour out of her hair.
“Um…” She says grinning and holding up a tray with some finished cookies, “Want some?”

The cookies actually look (and smell) really good so I lean forward, making a move to grab one but instead of picking the food up I ask her, “Uh… who are you? Please tell me you actually live here… or actually know where we are… nobody else seems too…”

In the meantime Tam grabs a cookie and hesitantly takes a bite… “Mm…. These are really good.”

I frowned after Luna left, "Do you have any clue who's making cookies?"

"Probably somebody in the kitchen..." Rex gave a small smile, "I'm going." He left me standing in front of the books.

I scanned the titles for anything, but they seemed to be books from all over the place, and not one of them had a geographical location stated. Sheesh, so much for figuring out where I am...

Dusk? Already? "We made it through the first day, guys." Somebody said.

Heck, whatever. I might as well just try to explore the house. I pushed the door closest to me in the library and found myself in a piano room with stairs. I went down and blew away the dust on it before attempting to play something.

I could see the score in my mind's eye, but the notes weren't coming out right for some reason. At least I could sort of make out the melody.

It seems as if a pair of eyes were on me, I stopped playing and shrugged, "It's not working out as well as I thought it would. I really can't remember anything."
