Half of What's Left

Welcome to Amaria, once a city as prosperous as its empire. Now, after the wars and internal strife, it is barely what it was before. Its tall and graceful buildings are nothing but hollowed out run down, falling apart at the gentlest of winds. The once glowing city is nothing but crumbling architecture and ash, uninhabited - or thought to be - by any form of life and isolated from its mother-country.

Whether you're just passing through in search of the rumored rich east or seeking refuge from recent battles having broken out from the west, take caution in what once was and is now.


Just a few things to keep in mind:

Spoiler

- Usual YWS rules.
- No sex, though romance is allowed. This is a deserted and despaired city. If you truly must, place a ***FADE OUT*** at the bottom of your post before going too far.
- No explicit language. Keep it PG-13 and censor your swears.
- No god-modding, trolling, etc... Play it fair, please.
- Your characters are not limited, but nothing outrageous. Monsters and supernatural beings are welcomed but try to keep things in the dystopian genre, please.
- Label the top of each post with the name of your character. Descriptions aren't necessary, but feel free to elaborate on your character if you must.

Seth and Alex-

We were stuck in a rut for the past four years going through the last year thinking to myself, what on earth were we doing here? How is this going to make this better when there is a limited number of people dying anyway, trying to rebuild this city like you have a choice....ha, that's funny, some people are just born stupid, some people have to make a choice, and sometimes people are just stupid enough to fall for the kill and advance in the next stage absolute and utter madness through the mind of the stupid......we wouldn't do any of it and that is probably why we ended up in here this is a place no one would like to be running, running from the people that have killed our family, someday we will get them back.... have to go they're coming, for now this is......goodbye.

Jaycee

My blonde, gray, and white curls tucked behind my ear, I slowly crouched behind an old, dusty rocks in the ruins.

Sometimes, I wonder to myself how I've ever spent years out here.

Shaking my head at myself - mostly my horrible thoughts - I take my homemade bow and arrow from my dirty back, my arms sore from pulling my body up on leafless trees, and my legs sore from trudging myself through this forgotten valley for three years straight.

I hear a slight rustling, my head flicking to the sound. This isn't usuall. No one has been here since god knows when.

I peek out from over it, to actually see people. I slowly stand, squinting to make sure this is believable.

Elijah Tucker

Holding Awen's hand, we set off towards the east after a night of attempted rest. My bag hands lightly at my side, reminding me of our empty stomachs, and my bow and arrow fit perfectly against my back, reminding me of the need to use it. Awen clutches her bunny with her free arm and stays at an even pace with me, knowing that we have to keep moving in order to get where we want without trouble. It isn't until two figures pop up in the horizon that I begin to worry.

We haven't seen anyone for months... What if they're hostile?

Minutes pass before we're staring each other down. It's two boys, a bit younger than I, who look just as worn and weary as the two of us. Awen moves behind my legs and hides from the two, allowing me to clutch my dagger in defense.

"We want no trouble," I state.

"Well, you're headed right to it," one of them mutters.

The other nods, pointing backwards, "You don't want to go there. You're better off in the city right here."

He motions around him to the mass amount of nothingness and crumbling buildings.

"What do you mean?" I ask.

"Check for yourself," the first says, "but we know for a fact that it isn't safe back there. You'll be killed on the spot. Your friend there too."

They glance at Awen, who peeks out. Then I catch something in the distance and turn, finding a small girl around my age standing in the middle of ruin. She looks astonished to find people around. I relax my grip on the dagger and take Awen's hand again, deciding there's no threat.

We're safe here for now. We'll check it out later.

Seth-

" Who's the girl? " Alex blurted.

" Look's like she's about sixteen, lost maybe? " Elijah suggested.

She walks over to us slowly and the first thing she does is pull out her weapon.

" Whoa take it easy there tiger, no harm here-"

" Where you headed? " I asked.

" No where you're concerned. " she sneered.

" What's your name? " Awen asked.

" You wouldn't understand, your too young. "

" To know your name? "

" My name is Jaycee, I am going to the place you guys are going, and if you have anymore things to ask me here is my reply, I don't give a crap! so I suggest we go to the same place we are all specifically going to is that okay.Alright then let's go!"

" Whoa who shoved the pole up her butt all the way to menopause-ville? " Alex replied.

" Elijah, what does 'menoclause' mean? " Awen asked.

" You'll find out when your older. "

" But I don't want to be like her, she's mean. "

Everyone laughed and we seemed to be having a good time until captain cruel came in barking orders but everything is fine....fine...fine....

Jaycee

Whoa...Aw! Cute!

After I lecture them, I see the little girl. I flash my pretty smile at her before putting my bow and arrow on my back, looking at the guys once done. One of them looked around my age. I nod politely at him before looking at the one that had a smart a*s reply, "You EVER say that again, and I will use this," I gesture to my arrow before sighing, "Yoi guys ever been out here before?" I ask, looking away, "If not, get ready to live in your own personal hell," I mutter, resting my hands on my hips.

Elijah

Oh my god... I love this kid. He's so my favorite right now.

I pick up Awen and hold her close, looking around. The girl seems to smile at her, automatically connecting as Awen had, and I can't help but feel a little territorial about my baby sister.

"We're headed east," I say, motioning to me and my sister, "So we've never been here before."

"We have," the smart-a**ed one says, "Once... a long time ago..."

The other one elbows him and they share this momentary staredown, having a conversation with their eyes.

"So... what's everyone's names?" I ask, looking at the two still, "I'm Eli and this is Awen. You're Jaycee, so... who are you two?"

Alex-

" To answer your question my name is Alex and this is my younger brother Seth, and I don't talk to gorillas Jaycee so I don't think we should be friends since we're not in the same class of primates. "

" Ha ha very funny, so where we headed again? "

" Someone's got a boyfriend, that she can't even but get,but seriously he is so out of your league I mean I don't know what you would see in yourself, me I just don't see how he would ever want to date, umm, what's the word, oh yes psycho! "

There I was standing there satisfied and then she just pounces on me and growls...

" Whoa there slow down Bessie don't pull anything, there okay just make sure you haven't strained anything...are you okay?, just....are you sure you are okay?...okay then just keep cool there cucumber...just stay calm. "

Jaycee

What...did he just say?!

I stand and shake my head, smirking, "You know...picking on a girl means you have a crush on them. Well," I pat his cheek before I start walking, "I'm not interested."

Elijah

Whoa...

"No, girly, I don't have a crush on you," Alex says with a smirk, "I just like annoying the crap out of people and you're who I've chosen this week."

I shake my head, containing my laughter and turn to Jaycee.

"Um, why don't we just sit down somewhere, get out of the sun," I suggest, not wanting a full on brawl to break out, "Awen needs a nap."

Seth-

" Yeah I think you should get her out of the sun she looks weird in the sunlight and I just don't know what to say so....goodnight little Awen see you tomorrow you are probably going to have a pretty messed up day tomorrow so get some sleep, night gorilla have a nice night picking the fleas off your back. "

" Yeah sorry about him, I think someone dropped him on his head and yeah...so...bye.

And with that we were gone finding somewhere to sleep until tomorrow and then meet up again.

Jaycee

I ignore him, finding thats probably gonna be the only way to get him to shut up, and plop against a rock instead. I find Im nor tired, and just start humming, looking up at the stars.

Elijah

Not wanting to pick sides just yet, I take Awen and walk over to one of the somewhat intact buildings. I use my satchel and jacket as a pillow and blanket for her and sit back with a view of the outside. Sighing, I keep watch until she falls asleep.

Seth-

We woke up and the first thing that came out of my mouth was, " Uhg, my back! "
In one word I would call that the worst rock Iv'e ever slept on.

I woke up and found that I wasn't the first in ' the group ' it turns out everyone was awake.

" Morning everyone, what's for breakfast? "

" For you brother...squat, but you could scurry along and be the one to do it for us,sleeping beauty " Alex complained.

" What he means is we have been waiting for you to get food and...yeah...so.. " Jaycee answered.

" Yeah so if you don't mind I'd like to get some food into my stomach if it's not to much to ask, you two stay with Awen and we'll go get the food.

" Wait a minute Sergeant starving I'm going too. "

" Umm...yeah no your not it's too dangerous. " Alex stammered.

" Yeah last time I checked, you didn't like or care about me, so I'm going. "

" First of all it's not that I don't care about you, It's just your'e a girl and girl's don't stand a chance against anything, example: "Oh I'm a girl ohh look at me I'm going to go beat those guys up...Bang and then your dead, girl's can't fight... that's that... end of story... goodbye. "

" Alright then, let's just let her go, okay Alex. " Elijah called out.

" Okay let the girl get hurt,she doesn't mean much to me anyway. "

" Alex, enough. " I screamed.

He pushed through everyone and left to get food.

" What was all that about? " Jaycee asked.

" His last girlfriend Rachel she wanted to go help get some supplies, but I don't remember for what, she was his life, she went to go slide past the guards and someone shot her, he was so hurt, never been the same since. "

The woods fell silent and from then on Alex went to get the food...alone.

Jaycee

What do I have to do with his girlfriend? Do I look like her or something?

I swallow and something drops inside of me. Without saying anything more, I run after him and walk by his side, glancing at him as I do, "I'm sorry," I say with no intention to make Alex mad, "I didn't mean to bring back memories. But...I don't like it when people set off on they're own. Even if I don't like them," I glance around.
