I wake the next morning and swear mentally, remembering it's Valentine's Day. I slip off the couch without disturbing Rayah and run into town quick, buying the last set of flowers and both chocolate and candy hearts. All set, I run back and set them all fancy-like on the coffee table silently.
I'm never what I like I'm double sided And I just can't hide I kind of like it When I make you cry 'Cause I'm twisted up, twisted up Inside
I smile at her and sigh, sitting back. Nic and Alyx come out of their hiding spots, sitting around the coffee table. Nic picks up the chocolate and sniffs the box before I snatch it back from him.
"This isn't for you," I tell him.
"Just take us home already," he whines.
"I want to stay," Alyx says, "His house smells better than yours."
Nic glares at him before standing and urging me to open the portal. I sigh and kiss Rayah's cheek.
"I'll be right back," I tell her, standing.
Something shimmers and my father appears in the middle of the room, displeased as ever. I inwardly groan and prepare for a lecture, but his eyes are locked on Alyx.
"I knew you'd survived," he says, "Welcome home, son."
Alyx raises an eyebrow and looks at me, confused. Hermes just disappears again, leaving me to answer all questions.
"When I get back," I tell him, leading Nic to the portal again.
I'm never what I like I'm double sided And I just can't hide I kind of like it When I make you cry 'Cause I'm twisted up, twisted up Inside
I drop Nic back at home to find a girl waiting in his living room. Not wanting to stick around and find out why, I quickly head home and sit next to Rayah. Alyx looks at me, waiting for answers.
"Yeah, he's our father," I sigh, "A damn idiot at one too. Bugs the hell out of me..."
"So...I'm...like you then," he says slowly.
I nod, "Yes."
I'm never what I like I'm double sided And I just can't hide I kind of like it When I make you cry 'Cause I'm twisted up, twisted up Inside
No, it's not that you didn't succeed. You accomplished a lot, but, if you want to touch people, don't concentrate so much on rhyme and metre. Think more about what you want to say instead of how you're saying it. — LCDR Geordi La Forge
