Yes, but SBs are supposed to be writing exercises. Quality, yes, is a good thing we should all strive to make the best of, but for less experienced writers, there still needs to be stepping stones of sorts.

A stepping stone it may be, but that's what joining SB's is for. Then when they have more experience, they'll create their own. Mods tell me bad SB's were still created, but at least not many bad SB's. You can only have so many stepping stones, after all.
And overused and overdone? ....The SBs that are currently in progress aren't so cliche. Some, yes, can be viewed as such, but most have their own spark of originality. Role Plays, to some extent, have to be cliche in order to attract players. Originality is key, yes, but without some familiarity you lose that...demographic, so to speak.
