"See, that wasn't so bad, was it?" i asked softly.
She shook her head slightly.
"And was it worth it?" i asked, gesturing around. Snow-covered peaks reached up into the dark sky, moonlight glinting off the ice.
Davnix-
I smiled. "Well then we'll just have to persuade him to let you stay, of course."
She looked up at me again. I smiled at her reassuringly, telling her that i meant every word.
Nathaniel-
I regarded her coldly. Even if i was still too weak to sit up completely without aid, i could still gesture to the two of them. Natan looked so peaceful, even as i felt him begin to struggle again.
"Why do you do this to him?"
She blinked. "I'm not doing anything."
"Yes you are, but of course only you would be blind enough to see it. Even Natan has enough sense to even try to picture the future. Why do you torture him so?" i demanded.
She stared at me steadily. "I still don't see what you're saying."
"Of course not," i muttered. "In case you have completely forgotten what you are, you're a vampire. And what are the common traits for vampires, may i ask?"
Natan struggled to free himself of my spell, feeling the unease and prickles of fear radiate from Val's body. I held the magic firmly in place, waiting for Val to figure it out.
Be the cartoon heart. Light a fire, light a spark. Light a fire, flame in my heart. We'll run wild, we'll be glowing in the dark.
Velna looked up at him, he really meant it, she could tell, he really truly meant it. She smiled, "We can at least try." Her stomach was fluttering around like a million butterflies had decided to take up resident in it. She could probably dance, though she didn't, she would look childish. She looked towards the window, Trent still wasn't back. But she wasn't worried, nothing at all was going to ruin this. Someone other then her family cared for her, really truly cared for her. She couldn't be happier, well maybe just a tad, but she was still floating on a cloud.
I looked around at the beautiful scenery and gasped. Oh lord it was more than beautiful it was georgous. "Oh my," I gasped and spun around in a circle, taking it all in. "Its beyond beautiful. Definetly worth it." the only drawback was the cold. I could feel goosebumps rising on my arms.
I stared at Nathaniel for a few moments, struggling to figure out what he meant.
"Qualities...like the fact that I have fangs, or the fact that I don't get sick, and can run really fast?" I said slowly, still meeting his gaze. I felt something coming off of Natan -- a bit of magic, it seemed. I placed a hand on his chest, attempting to sooth him, without letting my eyes leave Nathaniel.
As i done so many times already that it felt almost natural, i drew Ariana to my body, covering her with my thick wings. We stood there, like that, for who knows how long. I lent over and pressed my lips against hers.
Nathaniel-
I watched Val intently. "And...? You're leaving out something crucial."
*Sorry, it's really short.*
Be the cartoon heart. Light a fire, light a spark. Light a fire, flame in my heart. We'll run wild, we'll be glowing in the dark.
"What, my bloodlust, which I needless to say have full control over?" I snapped back, glaring at Nathaniel.
Natan shuddered under my hand. I wanted to check on him mentally, but was afraid of what Nathaniel would do if I diverted my attention for anymore than a second of time.
I snarled, losing patience. "Think, Valentina, what ability do vampires have that almost every other mortal can only wish for in their wildest dreams?!"
She glanced down quickly. "Oh..."
Be the cartoon heart. Light a fire, light a spark. Light a fire, flame in my heart. We'll run wild, we'll be glowing in the dark.
"But Natan doesn't care about those things. He loves me, no matter that I'm stuck in the body of a 19 sorry, age is not remembered year old!"
"Or so you think," Nathaniel snarled.
"No, we've discussed this!" We had, once. I told him I was afraid because I knew taht i would be stuck alone on Earth long after he grew old and passed on. He told me that he wasn't at all worried for that, that he would love me through and through, and that perhaps there would be a way for him to not die.
"Anyone can lie, Valentina! You're a vampire. A disgusting, bloodsucking creature!" Natheniel was just throwing random insults at me now. I didn't know if they were gonig anywhere, but I still listened intently, refusing to let my tears fall.
"Anyone can lie, Valentina," i said again. "And anyone can hide things. I will NOT allow you to turn my son."
She looked up defiantly. "I was never planning to."
"Don't deny it." i said. "Do not lie to yourself."
I let Natan out of my spell, feigning to be asleep again. I knew Val would not speak out, so i easily allowed myself to fall into blissful blackness. My full energy was nearly completely restored, but a few extra hours couldn't hurt.
Be the cartoon heart. Light a fire, light a spark. Light a fire, flame in my heart. We'll run wild, we'll be glowing in the dark.
Natan looked up at me, his breathing heavy, his eyes confused.
"What happened?" he asked worriedly.
"N..nothing..."I stammered, not wanting to worry him. He blniked a few times, glanced at his father, then back at me.
Valentina, what happened? he asked telepathically, as if knowing his father was listening. I was unable to awaken, no matter how I protested. The only person in this room with magic strong enough to block me into my own mind is my father. What happened
His words were stern, almost ordering.
Your father...he....I... I was near tears, and didn't know how to say it.
Show me, Natan suggested, pulling me into a tight hug and wiping away the tears. I nodded, allowing him into the memory. When it was finished, I could see the anger in his eyes. Valentina, I love you more than life itself. I will not let my father hurt you again, emotionally or physically. He promised, glaring at his father's sleeping image.
I gently pushed Val away and got up, going over to stand next to my father's inert form. I brushed my fingers lightly over his brow and shut my eyes.
You took less time than i imagined. my father said as i entered his mind.
Leave Valentina alone, I growled.
My father mentally shrugged. I do not take pleasure in torturing others, Natan, as you well know. Else i could not be a healer. I simply help them see the truth, no matter how bitter and horrible it may be.
Well, i suggest you stay out of other's business unless you are invited in. Leave Val alone. If you want to talk, do it with me, and spare her. i said harshly, withdrawing from his mind. I turned back to Val and went to sit with her again on the bed.
Be the cartoon heart. Light a fire, light a spark. Light a fire, flame in my heart. We'll run wild, we'll be glowing in the dark.
Natan rejoined me on the bed, wrapping his arms around me protectively. He closed his eyes, pressing me into him so that I couldn't see much of anything. Just out of the corner of my eye, howerver, I could see Nathaniel glaring at me.
"I'm sorry he did that to you," Natan said softly, rocking gently back and forth.
"It's fine," I replied.
"No, it's not. I can still hear the hesitation in your voice. You didn't believe what he said, did you?" I shrugged, not wanting to answer.
I smiled slightly. "Don't listen to him." i murmured slyly. "He can't help it if he hurts you...it's mostly in his nature, plus some bad experiences. Don't take it to heart, and if you're ever concerned about anything, come see me. 'kay?"
She nodded. I shot my father a ha-in-your-face-i-win look. He rolled his eyes and shook his head.
Be the cartoon heart. Light a fire, light a spark. Light a fire, flame in my heart. We'll run wild, we'll be glowing in the dark.
"Natan...what if we could find a way to make you live forever, or stop aging? Then you and I could be together forever...literally," I asked softly. He looked down at me like I had grown an extra head. "Then your father couldn't be mad because you wouldn't be a vampire."
"That is a fairly decent loophole," Natan agreed, turning the thought around in his mind.
"Or we could find a way to make me start aging," I continued.
