Ranger
Suddenly Taylor screamed from her room. Startled, I ran after her, beaten to it only by Nargls and Toby. There was a person standing over her. Toby and I both charged at them, but we were both taken down. I landed heavily on my huge bag -- the bag.
My longbow was still in that bag - I could feel the end poking into my shoulder. Silently, I rose to kneel, trying to blend with the shadows as best as I could. Very slowly, very carefully, I began to open it. I could almost reach it...
"Don't move or I shoot," said the figure - a female, by her voice. I was starting to go into action mode, every thought coming mechanically and quickly. She was pulling out a baseball bat, about to hit Toby with it. Toby shouted--
I whipped the bow out, grabbing an arrow with the other hand and fitting it to the string. And they made fun of me for carrying a bow. Not as good as a gun, of course, but it made for a better show, and at this range it didn't matter anyways.
"How about we reverse that?" I told the figure, drawing and aiming, but the woman was already coming at me with her bat, having seen me move.
I leaned back on instinct, trying to delay the moment of impact. And so it was blindly that I fired, the longbow giving a great thwack. Then the bat hit me on the head. My last conscious thought was a prayer that I'd hit her, that I'd at least slowed her down.
Then everything went dark.
