Maria, They are the creatures that form the nightmares. Examples would be: Dragons, Frost Giants, Sea Serpents, Vampires, Great Wolves (I made myself), Hags, etc. This is what people tame and control and so on and so forth. The entire story revolves around these things. I hope you understand now.
