Chapter 6.

Jagger found Bruno relaxing in a hammock by the lake laughing and joking with several other buff looking teens. They stopped talking as Jagger neared, their faces expressionless. Only Bruno was smiling. Lacing his fingers behind his head, he addressed Jagger.

“Well, someone looks like they had their feathers ruffled. What’s wrong pretty boy, someone been messing with your toys?” He laughed nastily and his friends joined in.

Jagger just strode closer.

Bruno stopped laughing as Jagger drew near. “Hey runt, you got off easy, don’t push you luck or I might have to get a little rough. You want to end up like your pal?”

Jagger didn’t even slow.

Reaching Bruno, he grabbed the bottom of the hammock and tipped the older teenager on to the ground. Stunned, Bruno struggled to get to his feet.

Jagger didn’t give him a chance. A straight left to the face started Bruno’s nose bleeding and knocked him back. Moving in, Jagger rained blows on him as fast as he could swing.

Hands pulled him off Bruno and Jagger fought wildly to break free until someone cuffed him hard in the head, setting the world spinning. His vision unfocused, he watch Bruno get to his feet.

As Bruno wiped the blood from his face with the back of his hand and spit out a tooth, his expression was mild.

A small crowd had formed. A camper in trunks looked like he’d left the lake so he could watch the show. Bruno took the kid’s towel and calmly wiped the blood from his hand, then gingerly touched it to his nose, checking it for any more bleeding.

Casually, he approached Jagger and the two Ares campers holding him back.

“Brave,” Bruno’s voice rang out in the quiet. “brave,” He lifted Jagger’s chin and leaned closer. “and stupid.” Releasing Jagger’s jaw, he took an step away. “You’ve just made a enemy of a son of Ares. Do you have any idea what that means?” He lashed out.

One moment he was standing there, the towel loosely rolled in his hands, and the next the towel flicked out, whipping in to the side of Jagger’s face. Jagger gave a slight cry of surprise at the sudden unexpectedness of it. A look of triumph flashed in Bruno’s eyes.

The towel snapped out again, this time though, Jagger was ready and no sound passed his lips. Several more hits with no reaction and Bruno got impatient. Tossing the towel aside, he backhanded Jagger.

Jagger’s head snapped sharply to one side and his ears rang, but he kept his expression carefully blank. After the fourth slap Jagger’s head ached and his own nose was dripping blood. Someone spoke up from the crowd.

“What’s wrong Bruno? Having a hard time fighting him with both of his arms held back?”

Bruno immediately spun towards the sound of the voice

“Who said that?” He demanded, searching the crowd.

Jagger laughed. A low amused chuckle that even he didn’t recognize. Bruno turned back to Jagger, his demeanor a mix of disbelief and fury. Jagger met his gaze with scorn filled eyes.

“What does it matter who said it, Bruno?” He spoke softly. “Everyone was thinking it.”

Jagger knew he’d gone to far. Bruno’s fingers curled into a fist and he started forward. Jagger was so completely focused on Bruno that he was caught off guard when the guy holding his right arm dropped it as if it were a hot coal. A startled exclamation on his lips.

Jagger didn’t waste time. Using his free fist, he slammed a punch in to the face of the Ares kid holding his left arm. The camper released him and stumbled back, hands cupped to his newly blackened eye. Jagger turned his attention to Bruno, fists raised and ready.

Bruno, however, just stood there, a look of shock on his features, staring at Jagger’s right arm. In fact, everyone seem to be staring at his arm. Jagger glanced down at it and his jaw dropped in surprise.

There on his bicep, right below the sleeve of his t-shirt, was a glowing red symbol. As he watched, it grew brighter and he felt it grow warm, then begin to burn. The pain drove him to his knees as the symbol seared in to his flesh. His muscles stretched taunt and then abruptly the scorching pain seem to fade, almost as quickly as it had came.

Uncomprehending, Jagger stared down at the head of a boar with two spears crossed behind it, branded on his arm.

He didn’t understand until Bruno spoke.

Placing a hand on Jagger’s shoulder, he leaned close and spoke softly into Jagger’s ear.

“Welcome to the family, brother.”

Thanks to everyone read this all the way through. I don't know if I should write any more. I originally wrote this for a contest my sisters and I did, to see who could write the best half blood story. The rules were you only had to write till the character was claimed. If you think I should write more of Jagger's story please let me know. Thanks. ~DG

WOAH!!! Surprise ending! Very, very well done, I can honestly say I didn't expect that one. Great job on it, these last few chapters were nicely done. What else can I say, you progressed the plot perfectly to that moment. I don't think this should be the last we hear of Jagger, but instead of continuing from this exact point, maybe write some other short stories with him. I honestly think you could have some fun with this character without giving some main master plot to a book. You might even want to go through and re-write those first couple chapters, I don't know. But still, this was an excellent little story, and you did well once you stopped hurrying to get him to camp.

That was a great ending! I totally did not expect it to end the way it did and really, I'd be delighted if you continued on from here because I am itching to know about how Jagger and Bruno adapt to one another and if they ever settle on who's going to get with Chelsea. The ending itself was very well written. Sometimes writing endings can be hard since you have to wrap up the entire story in a way that leaves the reader satisfied and possibly wanting more (which I definitely am :)). You nailed it! The only problems I see with it are a couple of grammar errors/typos like
Reaching Bruno, he grabbed the bottom of the hammock and tipped older teenager on to the ground.
should be the older teenager. Another one
A camper in trunks look like he’d left the lake so he could watch the show.
should be looked like. Other than those few little errors, I think this ending is superb. :)
Without art, life is pointless.

What do you mean, you don't know if you should write more?! OF COURSE you should! It's crazy not to! I'm hooked now! Puh-lease, write more! Pwetty please? :)
It isn't schizophrenia when you write about the voices in your head and get it published. That's talent.

I LOVED this story! Please keep writing! This is by far the best half-blood story I've read! I'm sorry i didn't comment on the other chapters. I just wanted to wait until the end.

Hey, you have a great writing style. But I couldn't get into your story for it is too much like Percy Jackson and the Lightning thief. It follows that plotline too closely for me. :S
You should try writing something more original, it's harder but more rewarding and atleast the you know it's totally original.
Keep writing. :)
