Greetings everyone!

I found this site through Google while searching for communities for young writers. I've always been a writer since a young age but I was never able to hone my skills, it was like singing in the shower :D . As time went on my interest in writing went down due to concentration shifting towards studying to get into university. I have summer holidays right now (starting university in September) so I joined a creative writing course and that really made me enthusiastic about writing stories once again, so here I am! :smt031

Hello and welcome to the forums! I myself just started about a week ago, however I found this to be a refreshing place to hang out already. I found out about YWS in the same way. There are rules to follow, but as long as you're respectful and type well half the time, then you shouldn't have to worry about them.

This is a great place to post your work and get criticism (reviews) about them. People will point out plot holes, grammar mistakes, spelling errors, and just about anything. We have poetry, art, stories, and novels as well as Role Playing stories. I look forward to seeing a piece of your writing and feel free to ask questions if you have any.
If words are just letters put together, why do we decide on what they mean?

I step away from the grammar to review the story.

I don't do poetry.

Eeeeee! Welcome to YWS, AJ! :D

Also, Star Wars reference? So much win. Like. I think we're officially buddies or something. ;) If I knew how to do a Darth Vader voice via text, I'd do one right now in honor of your presence. *heee hoooo* ... Maybe not. XD

Alright, in all seriousness! It's awesome to see you here, especially after a google search! There are quite a few members who find YWS via the Google. :o I actually heard of it by word of mouth, which less people I'm sure have. But you can always count on Google anyhow! It's great to see you've joined. :D

Ooh, university! :o So your workload's about to pile, but writing is a nice break from that. I found that out after my first couple years of university, so it'll be nice to get back into the swing of things! Take a break from life to write that story. ;) Maybe you'll join NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) or similar events. Fun times! I'm hoping to. Last year, I didn't do well, so maybe this year will be more successful! (There's a forum dedicated to the event under Discover Works, near the bottom. It occurs in November, so keep it in mind if you're interested! :D)

Was the creative writing course a college course? I remember taking one in high school, but I never took one in university. I loved it nonetheless! I even found an interest in poetry for however long that lasted. (I'm back to fiction again. xD)

So you write fiction! What types of genres are you interested in? :) I'm typically a fantasy/sci-fi person, but I've dabbled in just about everything. Have you ever tried poetry or scripts? Scripts are probably among my favorite forms of writing! I'm a dialogue hog, so it was extremely fun writing a movie script. :D

Do you do anything outside of writing? Are you a musician or an athlete perhaps? Maybe a gamer? :o Also, what degree are you going for in university? You can find just about anyone with any interest here, so feel free to get to know people in the Community forums or through reviewing their work under Discover Works. ;) Also don't forget to check out the Storybooks! They're a little different, more like co-writing stories with a team of other members, but they're extremely fun! Join whichever you want. :D

Anyhow, I'll spare you any more jibberjabber. ;) See you around!

Your username has an awesome Star Wars reference too. I'm a huge star wars fan, in fact I just went through a marathon of the original trilogy today :smt003 .

The NaNoWriMo sounds very interesting, I'll definitely look into that! The creative writing course I did was in India, I'm here on holiday right now (pretty glad I am with the riots going on back home in the UK) and just decided to do a week long course as the editor of a leading newspaper (Times Of India) here was going to be the teacher.

The last day of the course involved script writing and I loved it (we even got to see Titanic's script as an example)! Nice to see this site has people enthusiastic about script writing too. I love writing Fantasy/Science-Fiction stories too, there's just something in me that resonates with those genres. The story I'm working on right now is more of a supernatural/fantasy/horror one though, I've almost finished the first chapter :)

Outside of writing I love to play badminton and yes I am a gamer, quite an enthusiastic one (I love RPG's, platformers and adventure games). I'm going to university to do medicine.

I'll definitely check all those features out, the group story writing sounds very nice. Thanks for a really warm welcome JabberHut, just promise me you'll never get a bounty hunter on my back! :pirate3:

@shadowraiki

Thanks! Nice to see your new too and that you like it here!

Ah! Original trilogy = so much win. I just watched the three of those a couple weeks ago! I've a friend who's read all sorts of Star Wars books. I haven't, but I've picked up some tidbits from her. xD

Ooh, holiday in India? I've a couple friends here on YWS who are from India! That sounds like an awesome course too, when the instructor is the editor of an actual newspaper. (Also, I do hope you're family and friends are doing well back home! D: )

Yay, another script-writer! In April, there's an event similar to NaNoWriMo (actually hosted by the same people) called Script Frenzy. You write 100 pages in the month! It's a lot of fun, and I won the first time I did it! (This last year was just too crazy for me to do NaNo and Script Frenzy. xD I'll have to do better this year!) Oooh, you saw the Titanic script? It's always so cool to see those kinds of scripts. Crazy how the best movies were written down on paper first!

O: A fellow fantasy/sci-fi fan too. I think it's something to do with the unreal! You can make things up and it can still work. At least, that's why I like it! An escape from everyday life. I hope you post your first chapter at some point. I'd love to read!

And again, another yay! I'm a gamer as well! I play when I can, anyway. :D Admittedly, I play WoW with the family. But I'm the classic Kingdom Hearts/Final Fantasy fan. Others as well! There are actually some video game clubs you can look into here as well. Crazy nerdiness happens there.

You're awesome! I'll be sure to tell my bounty hunters you're okay. ;)

I've tried to read many Star Wars books too, some of them annoy me (mostly the post Episode 6 books) as one book actually renders the "chosen one" prophecy in the movies obsolete.

Yeah it was awesome seeing the script for Titanic, it was well written and very visual. I agree, Sci-fi/Fantasy writing gives us a chance to create this new world and then escape to it thinking of stories set in the world.

Ohh I'm a Final Fantasy/Kingdom Hearts fan too (more of a Final Fantasy one though), I was considering calling myself DarthChocobo at one point :D.

Welcome to YWS!

I want you in my storybook. It is mostly an excuse to write scenes where things blow up! It's really easy to get into.

Hello and welcome to YWS!
I loved your singing in the shower analogy, its one of those things you just wish you could do wonderfully, and not have people shouting at you through the door to stop swinging the cats against the wall -.-
Thinking about it, I remember finding this site through google as well though I've no idea what I searched. The people here are a little mad but so are lots of writers and I'm sure you'll fit right in!
If you have any questions feel free to attack my wall or send me a message; I'll try to help as best I can! xD

@IcyFlame

Thanks for the warm welcome :) . Yes I completely agree with the singing opinion, I wish I could do it well but my voice is... well lets just not go there. :D

@Griffinkeeper

That sounds interesting, I'll try to join!
