Mason and Persephone

"Hey there, Mister. What's with the shades?" Someone jeered. Persephone turned around to see a crowd around a boy with shades on. He looked scared and alone.

"Leave him alone!" Persephone snapped, breaking the crowd up. She turned to the boy. "I'm Persephone."

"Edgar." He muttered, looking down. Persephone smiled kindly and pulled him over to the group of kids she just met. "Okay, so. Should we all stick together?"

Scarlett Harlow (Saffy Hampton)

I chewed on my lip, and tried to escape the small group. That Ethan boy left the small group, shortly followed by Ella. I look to Persephone and Mason. They were with another guy. I walked towards them to let them know I'm leaving their group

"I have to go... Somewhere," I said. I waved before turning and leaving. I was walking wherever I wanted to. I didn't know where to go, so I just let my feet take me where they want. I ended up in a flowerbed, looking at a guy frantically looking for something. I approached him with caution.

"Do you need help?" I ask him.

Mason and Persephone

"Okay. Weird." Mason shook her head as Saffy ran off. "Seph, who's this?"

"Edgar, this is my sister, Mason." Persephone responded.

"Hi." Edgar said.

Jaxon Danny~

My head snapped up at the sound of a voice. My eyes were wide and frantically searching. I wanted to scream profanity at the sky but that would hardly be appropriate.

"Do you need help," she repeated. I snapped into focus and jumped up, my hands shaking and my foot tapping impatiently.

"Yeah," I stammered. "Y-yeah. My smokes, man. My freaking- Dang. Can you just- Aww, crap." I ran my hands through my hair and my shades fell to the floor. She bent down and picked them up for me. I turned to her as she handed them to me but lost intrest in the piece of eyewear quickly, instead dropping to the floor and searching with my eyes and hands. They had to be down here somewhere. Panic welled up in my throat and I let out a frustrated swear.

"Um, are you okay?" I forgot she was there. I got back up and tried to regain my cool. I fixed my hair and my shirt but I was still shaking - the only thing I couldn't help.

"I'm fine, fine. But can you, crap, can you help me?" She shrugged and put my glasses down on the flower bed.

"What is it?" I took a deep breath and took another look around.

"My smokes, my pack, I can't freaking find them. Crap." I took a few deep breaths and tried again. She probably though I was insane. This was not good. "I just need you to help me find my pack of cigarettes. Can you?"

She nodded and the search was on. We found them a minute or so later and I nearly tackled the small box. As soon as they were in my hand I pulled out one and lit it in a blink of an eye. The nicotine calmed me instantly and I was back to my normal self. The girl actually seemed taken aback by the sudden change in demeanor.

"Hey thanks," I said smoothly. "Name's Jaxon. Well, Jayson. Oh whatever, what the hell am I talking about? My name is Jax." She scoffed and took my outstretched hand.

"The name's Saffy."

"Is it really?"

"Is it really?" Jax asked. I thought for a minute and took a deep breath.

"Actually, no. My sister gave me a different name before I came here. My name is actually Scarlett," I confirmed. Jaxon nodded with the cigarette in his mouth. I stared at the cigarette for a moment.

"What's up with you and the cigarettes?" I ask with great interest. Jax looked up to the sky, as if he were searching for the right words to say.

Before I could give him a chance to respond, I quickly added, "You do know it could kill you, right?".

I turned back to the girl - Scarlett, not Saffy - and shrugged nonchalantly before taking a seat again next to the flowers.

"Cars can kill you but that doesn't stop people from driving them."

"That's true but-"

"These things keep me sane." To emphasize my point I took a long and deep drag, causing my shoulders to relax and my muscles loosen. I leaned back and blew the smoke out slowly, it curled in wispy tendrils in front of my face before vanishing. Scarlett covered her nose with a look of distaste. I smirked at her.

"Sane?"

"You saw me earlier, right?" She laughed at me and nodded.

"Yeah, I thought you were crazy or something."

"That's what I thought. These things," I took my smoke from my mouth and tapped away the ashes, "are my life."

"It's still a bad habit." I gave her a bored look and lazily rolled my eyes.

"I don't need you to tell me that, Scarlett dear. Thanks anyway. Your first day here, right?"

"-Your first day here, right?" I rolled my eyes at the question, and sat down with him.

"Yes," I say in a complaining tone. Jax smirked and let more smoke out.

"And?" he asked. I look at him with a "what now" look.

"And what?" I replied.

"What do you think, so far?" he asked. I looked up to the sky and thought for a minute.

"I don't want to be here. I rather be in my crap of a home," I answer. Jax nodded and let out smoke. I instantly wave the smoke away from me.

"You better keep your smoke away from me," I teasingly warned.

As I arrived in the bus I read the letter my mom had sent with me...

Luke, I know that the Academy will be an alien environment for you, and that you're a bit apprehensive, but things are not as black and white as they once were. Fear will soon be accompanied by hope; and I have every confidence that the Academy will not only challenge you intellectually, it will also teach you the things that can't be learned from a book. Remember, don't let fear rule you and make some friends, (unless you want to go straight to getting a girlfriend☺).
I love you,
Mom

I blushed slightly at her comment. Ever since she told me about the Academy she kept sticking girlfriend comments in all of our conversations. Suddenly my mind back kicked back into gear. I quickly folded the letter and placed it back into my pocket as I went outside.

My mind had frozen again, there were just so many people. I had to make myself move to retrieve my luggage.

'It's no big deal,' I thought to myself, just find the dorms, find out where your room is, then get to orientation. You can worry about everything else after that.

Finishing my quick pep talk, I stiffly made my way towards the nearest building.

Mason & Persephone

"Shall we sit down?" Persephone asked cheerfully.

"Sure." Edgar muttered lamely.

Persephone smiled at him. "Are you hungry?"

"I am." Mason said, walking backwards to the dining hall.

"Mas, watch where you're going." Persephone sighed.

"Chill, Seph. I ain't gonna run into anyone." With that said, she ran in to a black-haired boy walking stiffly to the dining hall.

"I am so sorry!" He blushed slightly, helping her up.

"It was my fault." Mason, too, blushed, staring awkardly at the ground.

"I'm Lance." He offered his hand, smiling shyly.

"Mason. This is Persephone and Edgar." She shook his hand.

I turned to Scarlett with a raised eyebrow.

"If my smoke bothers you, well, you could move." I shrugged but crushed the shrinking smoke under the heel of my boots. "But since you asked oh so nicely," I made sure my sarcasm was obvious, "I'll put it out."

"Thank you so much." She was equally sarcastic.

I chuckled lowly and shook my head before getting up and grabbing my things. She rose with me and brushed off her pants.

"Well, yeah I'm going to leave now. You know, no matter how long and hard I pray ciggs will never be food. Follow if you want. Don't if you don't." I put on my glasses and shoved my hands into my pocket, walking off. I needed food.

I hadn't eaten since the previous day and my stomach was starting to get a temper again. And, now that I thought about it, I was pretty tired too. I'd need to find my stupid room after this.

Enola (Ella)
We sat down underneath a tree, and looked at each other.
"I suppose I'll introduce myself again," I said, trying to get the conversation going. "I'm Ella..."
"Ethan."
He was short. Why did I follow him again? Surly. What was the point of following him again?

I leaned back trying not to feel hurt. It wasn't this guys fault I followed him when he wanted to be alone. Hey! Maybe that was it.
"Sorry I followed you-- I didn't like them much either." I stumbled over my words. Stupid words.
"Hey, its cool."
He pulled out some sunglasses- what was with guys at this school and sunglasses? And covered up his eyes.

I stood up, and turned around, walking towards the really tall building in the middle. I needed food.
Ethan followed me, and said, "And now, it's my turn to follow you."
I smiled, and kept walking. When we reached the door, a woman with steel grey hair greeted us.
"Welcome to the Academy of Hidden. I'll give you your room numbers."
She asked us our names, then gave us a slip of paper.

I looked at mine, and then Ethan's. 678
I looked at mine again. It was the same number! What the heck?

Edric (Ethan):
I don't like this school.
I'm rooming with two girls and another guy. How does that work? And the other girl is that mean one... Mason? Marly? and then... a guy named Luke. We stood there, feeling awkward.
"So..." Ella said.
"So." I said.

Ella started looking at the 'starter packs' on each of our beds. "Girls on one side, guys on the other. Then we hang up this," she held up a curtain, "And hope they got our room numbers mixed up. At least there are two bathrooms on each side."

I nodded, and started to help her.

There were just so many awkward thing happening today. Granted, I'm not very well acquainted with awkward, so this could very well be normal when you have hundreds of people interacting with each other. But I sure hoped not.

First, not two minutes after I had gotten off the bus this girl knocks me down while I'm trying to find my lodging. I was angry at her for not looking at where she was going, but I was more angry at myself for being so absorbed in what I was doing that I didn't notice her until we collided. You see, very awkward. I quickly introduced myself to lessen the tension, but after Mason introduced herself and her two friends there was silence. Awkward silence. Before it lasted to long, Per-symphony said that it was nice to meet me but that they needed to find their rooms.

But of course that couldn't be the end of it. Just when I finally get to my room I discover that: (1) I will be sharing it with two girls and, (2) one of them is Mason. I didn't mind the guy, but he already looked like he was attracted to the other girl, and that could complicate things even more. But even after introducing ourselves and setting up the room to be somewhat private, the awkward atmosphere didn't die down. At least my roommates seemed to be taking it as well as I was. Even Edric seemed to thinking, 'What the heck!?!'

Mason and Persephone

"You're kidding? Seriously? I'm rooming with two guys?!" Mason shrieked as the gray-haired woman handed each of them a piece of paper.

"You're not the only one." Persephone said, turning to Edgar. "Appearantly you and I are in room 173."

Mason scowled. "I'm going to settle in." She grabbed her luggage and flounced off to her room. Strolling in, she was thrillwd to catch a single bed. "Okay, everyone. Listen up. Boys on one side, girls on the other. If we're going to room together, then we respect each other. Got it?" Mason growled, glancing sternly at each of them.
