At what age did you start writing?

So, at what age did you start writing? And do you remember what your first story was about?

I started writing when I was about eleven or twelve! After I read Harry Potter, I wanted to write cool stories too. My first story was a co-write with a friend. It was a hodge-podge of superheroes and fantasy -- a lot like Sailor Moon, only worse. We even role-played it with our siblings 'cause we were so excited about writing it!

I was 12. My first story was a colab, heavily influenced by Eragon (I wonder how many of us will say that), about twins who get dragons and end up having to fight their sisters. Thinking back on it, the [then ignored] psychology in there is just incredible.

After I gave up in that story, I didn't have another story really stick until my current novel at 13. It took a year to find it. So depending on your count (writing at all/writing solo) I was 12 or 13.

I was either eleven or twelve when I started writing my first novel - it was about a group of four friends and a bunch of rumours and secrets. I've had the book self published but I would never, ever, post any of it here - it needs to be gone through with a giant red pen.

I've always loved writing; my mum tells me that I used to copy out books when I was younger, mostly with squiggles and doodles, but I always told her I was writing a book

Five books on and I'm actually using the English language now

Eek, I wrote the first twenty something pages of a rip off of Harry Potter, just in an American setting rather than a British one. I must have been thirteen when I wrote it.

I keep the manuscript to remind myself of how far I have come since then.

I was maybe 8or9 my first story (never finished) was about a fairy named Primrose.

Then I tried writing mysteries with friends, but I was and still am horrible with not finishing stuff....

I got the writing bug in fourth grade. My first story--at least the first that actually got to the "words on a page" stage--was abut this woman who lived in Paris, France (or at least some made up, fourth-grader approximation of the city) that found a magic book store. Inside the book store there was this back hall lined with doors which one could go through and end up in different worlds with all kinds of crazy monsters. I can't really remember the conflict of the story, only that there was some important key involved, but I vividly remember some epic fight scene planned to go down on the top of the Eiffel Tower.

My first book was in kindergarten. It was called Bird Story or something like that. I illustrated it as well. It is, however, a collector's edition and I am the only one to have collected it, so I'm sorry for all of you.

I must have started writing in third grade. My elementary school required 5 hours per week of writing to fulfill the week's goals (for reading and math, too), so one way to fulfill that goal was to write. I remember writing an entire story with my left hand just for fun. It was about a pea and carrot family.

I ALSO REMEMBER writing my Harry Potter fanfic. I remember consciously skipping ahead a few years to five or six so that by the time I finished J.K. Rowling could use it if she wanted.

Another of my earliest works was a story about unicorns I co-authored with my mom.

I am sure I still have my rip-off of Phantom of the Opera, somewhere, too.

I have a bunch of these old works still floating around! Like "Alexander's Journal of the Immortals" where he kills the immortals for breakfast. Youuu knowwwww.

I was around thirteen, I think. I wrote one terrible, offensively bad novel about some kid who lived in a kid's home. He got hit in the head by a golf club at some point. Then I quit writing for a long while... I started writing again at fourteen, and I'm still going strong.

Weirdly though, a lot of what happened in that awful novel comes into the stuff I write now. Slightly worrying.

I think I began writing stories around five, and they were all about knights, dragons, and unicorns. Funny, 12 years later and I'm still writing about those things... >.>

Uh, I was about eleven, I think. It was shortly after my family moved into a house dead-set in the badlands and I had nothing better to do than read and feed feral cats.

My first attempt at writing something for my own enjoyment (aka, nonfiction and not for school) was a short story. I forget its name and its characters, but it was about a group of guys that ended up shipwrecked on an island and had to rebuild their boat. It was all about them getting to know the islanders and how sad it was when they eventually had to leave. I'm not even sure if I still have it. Ironically, I'm pretty bad at short stories now but I'm still stuck in male POV for the most part.

After that, I was off to the races with a trilogy I'm still working on (Coh and Mirabella) and I haven't really stopped since. I took a hiatus and wrote fanfiction but that's about it.

(Funnily, some of the books people mentioned were the sort I was reading at the time--Harry Potter, Eragon, etc. Except I was also in love with Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys, Jack London, and Jonathan Swift.)

I can't remember a time when I haven't been writing, but the first story I remember writing was called "Teddy Bear's Friends", which was about a teddy bear called Teddy Bear and his friends the deer, the seagull, the squirrel and another teddy bear called Teddy Bear. I wrote it when I was seven, I think.

My older sister, Jaquie got me hooked on writing, so I'm not really sure when I actually started. However, it started getting me into trouble in second grade when I rushed through all of my schoolwork to write. My first story was about some mad scientist who was trying to develop a chemical repellent to the super electric eel that was terrorizing the beach.

I was 7 going on 8 and I wrote a play. I just don't remember the plot, but there was a princess and a prince. It was during that era when the Snow White, Cinderella, etc, Disney movies were so popular at my school...It's weird because I remember asking my mother permission to write the play :/
