There is an opening for a guy or girl. If you would like either, fill out the character form and PM that and a writing sample from your character's POV that's at least 1 paragraph (5 sentences, to be exact) long to me. Thanks, Alzora and Sierra 3002 It is the year 3002. Almost two years ago, nuclear warfare destroyed the world as you knew it. The Arctic flooded and the Atlantic and Indian oceans dried out. Radiation killed millions of people, bombs and bullets millions more. Against all odds, you have survived this far. You are in the ruins of the once-great New York City, part of a group of ten teenagers, 13-21 years old. After the bombing of New York, you banded together for survival. Now, two years later, you are starting to notice the effects of the radiation: you are developing a power. But you’re not the only ones. Animals are mutating too, but at a much faster rate. Snakes with wings, talking rats, fish with fangs and a poisonous bite, and diseases and viruses that never existed before. In this new, harsh world you are driven to violence. On the streets of NYC the new motto is, “Kill, or be killed.” If you see a person your only thought will be if they have weapons and/or enough food for you or not. If they have no weapons but do have food you attack to take it. If they have weapons and food you run – unless you want to stay and try to fight them. If they have weapons and no food you definitely want to run. None of either? Leave them to die. This is why you’re in a group, to take down the weaker people and grab their food. That way you’re safer. And, you are hunted. As you start to notice your powers, other people do too. They are coming for you, to use your power to create a new society of gifted, adapted humans, to experiment and try to find a way to give your gifts to other, un-adapted humans. And they’re going to be here very, very soon. You just don’t know it yet. Justagirl - Name: Faye Jensen G ender: Female Age (13-21): 16 Appearance (any image – even anime – is accepted): Long, white-blonde hair with a dark purple streak that appeared after the start of the war. Extremely light blue-violet eyes and long, white-ish eyelashes. Pale skin, lips, no freckles, and long, graceful looking fingers. Tall and very pretty except for the weird purple streak in her hair. Faye1.jpg History: Used to be one of the “weird emo kids” at school. Had only one friend, Izzy/Issachar (a girl who also survived the war), and lived in NYC with her mom (who owned a flower shop). Her mom was killed by (one of the numerous) psychotic people after the beginning of the war. Mutation (only one – see the rules above for more clarification on this): Kinetic Absorption (though she doesn’t really know how to control it yet). Loner? Or already in the group? Weapon of Choice (there isn’t much ammo for guns): A small dagger that she puts into a inside pocket that she sewed into her boot. Other (NO PETS): Doesn’t want to hurt people unless she has to because she’s defending herself or one of her friends. 2. CelticaNoir - Name: Sula Erani Gender: Female Age (13-21): 17 Appearance: http://www.youngwriterssociety.com/download/file.php?id=11647 Her skin is mostly pale, but has a hint of a natural tan to it; her bright red hair is usually tied up into a ponytail. Her eyes are a dull, almost unnoticeable blue. Her body frame is lithe, almost fragile; she is definitely not an athlete by any means. She usually wears fancy clothing, such as those from fairy tales. Personality: Sula, like her name indicates, is a free spirit. She likes dressing up in fairy tale costumes, much to the chagrin of those who know her. (They think it makes her look ridiculous.) She is not easily angered, however, and can actually be the stable center when people are panicking. She is rather shy, however, which is the reason she gets nervous in personal situations or casual conversations; she never likes talking about herself, and doesn't know what to ask the other person. She is also very intelligent, despite what you might think of her at first glance. Even though she is considered quite pretty, she doesn't think so herself. History: Sula was born to doctors Leah and Anan Erani. A odd girl even as a child, Sula's behavior caused her to be ostracized from her classmates and siblings, although she barely noticed it herself. She took a shine to painting and excelled at it, but quickly became bored of it and turned to the school theater instead taking minor role after minor role. Sula became the star of the theater, but she kept choosing the same unnoticeable roles, much to everyone's confusion and chagrin. When the war came, Sula had barely noticed before she was caught in the bombings at school, with most of her classmates dying and those of who didn't, mutating, the latter group including herself. Mutation (only one – see the rules above for more clarification on this): Shapeshifting. Sula can change her appearance from one form to another, taking on another person's appearance or even sometimes, an animal's. However, she can't change her eyes; anyone looking too closely might notice this. She also can't change for very long; as of late, she found her limit to be at four hours. Loner? Or already in the group? Loner. Up for love: Yep. Weapon of Choice (there isn’t much ammo for guns): Her own hands and feet. Sula is something of a karate girl, although she's not really adept at it. Other: Sula is considered exotic-looking by most who know her. 3. BrooklynWriter - Name: Ashlynn *Ash* Gender: Female Age (13-21): 16 Appearance (any image even anime is accepted): Ash is about 5'7" with short black hair and blue eyes. History: Ash was always the freak girl. She didn't have many friends in her life, and she was picked on/bullied most of it. Her parents were busy, working class people. They each worked up to three jobs at a time, so they weren't usually there for Ash. She worked hard at everything she did despite her hard times. When she was 13, she ran away from home and hitch-hiked to NYC. There, she got a job as a waitress and even found love in a boy named James. Unfortunately, James died in the first wave of those lost to radiation. Ash didn't have the heart to go home so she's still there in NYC. Ash ran into the group by accident and after proving that she wouldn't be a serious danger to the members of the group they let her in. Up for love? Ash is still a bit brokenhearted, but if a guy is willing to try to reach out to her, she'd be faithful 'til the end. A romantic, but subtly so. History: When Kora was a five, a radiation leak occurred, her family was unaffected but she began to change colors when she changed moods. When she was calm or content she would look normal but pale, like white pale. Her family began to resent her. Not knowing what to do with her, while she was at school they left, moved. Far away never to here of her again. Kora's grandmother then came and brought her to NYC, since she'd been charged with keeping Kora. But when Kora's' skin turned blue with sadness he grandmother grew blue with fear, and died in her arms. Kora was left to the streets. Never accepted because of her mutation. Subject Blue - Name: Paul Lance. Gender : male. Age: 17. Appearance: Paul is a bit shorter then average, however, he is wide shouldered and fit. He has a black hair which is almost shaved, military style, cut. His facial hair is cropped yet incompletely shaved, with his sideburns especially thick. His eyes are uniquely purple colored, and he has a tiny scar right beside his right eye. He is handsome in a bad-ass way, though he has a thin, pale look. He usually wears jeans, a white T-shirt and a leather-like jacket. Personality: unsocial, which obviously prevent any further knowledge. History: Paul was born to a well-off family in Boston, he grew up normally and had no social or other problems -being tough, fit, intelligent and charming. When he was fifteen, however, he was kidnapped for ransom purpose, going through harsh conditions and physical abuse that consisted in emotional trauma. The ransom was never paid because of the war. Out of the five abductors, only one survived the radiation, and took - allowing Paul to live and even bonding with him- Paul on a psychotic travel throughout the USA. After two years, during which the two became close friends and partners, they got to the city of New York, where, during a raid on a store, the two were attacked by a local gang. Paul survived by unintentionally using his mutation, killing all his attackers. Mutation (only one – see the rules above for more clarification on this): Paul has acid powers, he can become acid-like and shoot streams or blasts of acid. Loner or part of the group: Loner. Up for love: partially- up for a relationship. Love might not be his interest, however. Weapon of choice: Knows hand to hand combat, also carries a multi-tool consisting a pocket knife. Other: untrustworthy, has a lot of the qualities required for a villain. Ice cold. 2. 3. Sierra - Name: Noah Gender: Male Age: 16 Appearance (any image – even anime – is accepted): He has dark, red-brown hair that falls into his eyes, a permanent summer tan, and green eyes. He is a little taller then average height. He usually wears a a black t-shirt - it's ripped and dirty by now, but it's his favorite and he refuses to part with it - jean and a worn pair of boots he found in an abandon construction site. A lot like this. History: He lived in Brooklyn with his alcoholic father, his mom, and his little sister Shaylee. His dad was out of the state when the apocalypse happened, yet his mom got separated from him and his sister, and he is pretty sure she's dead. They were on Brooklyn Bridge when it collapsed, and Shaylee drown. Someone pulled Noah out just before he died, but he never knew who. He found Faye about a month before they joined the group. Apple - Name: Gabriel “Gabby” Patterson Gender: Male Age (13-21): Fourteen turning fifteen (thought I’d shake it up a little since everyone is relatively the same age). Appearance (any image – even anime – is accepted): Sorry guys, I found this awesome .gif thing that I just couldn’t help but post. http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lmzqb1z0mf1qbm8j9.gif Gabriel looks a lot younger then his age supposes. With ruffled blonde hair and cool blue eyes, his skin is extremely pale and prone to burning. From his father’s side he inherited the dimple in his chin and the strong jaw, though from his mother he received the dark, arched eyebrows and the quirky gleam in his eyes. Gabriel is not the tallest person in the world either, standing at exactly five foot six, no more no less. He is often ridiculed because of his small stature because instead of towering over everyone like most people he admire do, he’s squat and is used as hand rest by practically everyone. Personality (If you want to say what it is.): Gabriel is a cocky, self righteous moron. He thinks about only himself and can appear every air headed at times, like, really air headed. Gabriel was never one for patience either. He’ll step a toe over the line if it gets him closer to his goal even though death could be waiting around the corner. Gabriel doesn’t care, as long as he gets what he wants. The teenage boy is also very stubborn. Even though most of the world is destroyed, he still has hope that somewhere over the hill there is normality. In saying all that, Gabriel does have a soft spot though he disguises it very well and only very few can see it. History: Gabriel grew up in a very religious, Christian family. His father could’ve been considered a reverend just how engrossed the older man was in religion and the church. Gabriel’s mother was not so much. With a gambling addiction, Gabriel’s father was oblivious to the problem and as was most of the family. Gabriel had a good enough siblings even if they did have their fall outs. With six older sisters and a baby brother, Gabriel’s hands were always full. Then the bombing began. Gabriel’s internet show that he had been working on ever since he received a laptop on his tenth birthday was left unfinished as the house he shared with his father’s other workmates was sent crashing to the ground. His mother was the one that saved him from the worst of the wreckage, though only causing herself serious injuries. Everyone else he had grown up with were killed by the worst of the fire which engulfed their home whole. For weeks Gabriel and his mother were on the run till they were tracked down. Gabriel’s mother risked herself to save her son giving him enough time to run away whilst she played the decoy. She died from six bullet wounds as Gabriel found out when he went back to find her. Mutation (only one – see the rules above for more clarification on this): Gabriel’s power is mimicry. By watching his opponent, he has the ability to copy their ability and use it against them though not as strongly. Gabriel is still unaware that he even has a power, instead he uses only his gun when something goes wrong. Just watch out, when he learns his ability he'll be copying everything you do. Loner? Or already in the group?: Gabriel was in a group, though because of his attitude, and he almost got them all killed by giving them wrong directions, he was kicked out receiving a broken arm in the process which still is in the healing process. He was the one that actually founded the group; seven children who he had found hiding in an abandoned warehouse. After they found another person who was a much better leader then Gabriel they kicked him to the curb, literally. The Sayers, that is the group's name, and Gabriel are not on good terms. Up for love? Eh, I don’t know; if you can handle him then sure! When Gabriel returned to her corpse, he pulled some of the material from the hem of her dress and tied it to the gun (that explains the little red things). Other (NO PETS): Because Gabriel is so short he was given a nickname to make him appear more cute. “Gabby” was the name The Sayers christened him. This infuriates him to no end though he refers more to that name then Gabriel. And I've mentioned this before but I'll state it again: Gabriel's right arm is broken, shattered in three areas. It is still in the mending process though because there is no hospitals it will take much longer then normal. This is also the reason for his snappy tongue. The pain is to much for him to take. He is often seen taking pain killers which he managed to steal from homes that haven't been completely destroyed. 5. latinoburn - Name: Neo Jacques Gender: Male Age: 17 Appearance: http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh214/ppringle6/Untitled-36.jpg Black spiky hair. Tattoos running down both his arms. A beard but no sideburns. Baggy blacks jeans, and old raggedy nikes Personality: He's quiet, he keep to himself a lot. A lot of people will think hes just an angry psycho maniac. Hes very passive aggressive, it could cost your life if you get on his bad side. Self confident in combat, doesn't know when to quit. Never gives up, doesn't wait on people. He doesn't really care about his appearance, hes one set minded, always focused on something. History: Neo was born into a tough neighborhood in Detroit. He was a very fast bloomer and caught on to things very fast. Neo had two parents who both worked 3 jobs to keep him in school. Neo never got to see his parents. When he reached his senior year in junior, his parents began to fight a lot.Things only got worse and his parents resorted to having a divorce. Rumors for nuclear outbreak were beginning to break out and it was affecting the economy greatly. Businesses were closing down, crime rates were rising, it was utter chaos. Neo's father was killed by in a shoot out by bank robbers and his mom lost all three of her jobs. The following day, Neo's mom was mugged and robbed of all of her money. Neo had to drop out of high school and join a gang in the streets to survive. In his process of survival, he found love and had a beautiful daughter named, Hailey. Three years later the nuclear war rumors were beginning to calm down. Two year old Hailey was just learning how to read, when an un-identified location fired several nuclear bombs all around America. Neo and Hailey were able to survive two explosions, as Neo inhaled the radiation he had this weird feeling and his hands but he ignored it. As Neo and Hailey ran for their lives Hailey fainted from all the radiation, Neo tried to run back and get his daughter. but the rubble from everywhere continued to block him. Hailey was killed as a ten story building collapsed on her limp body. It all came crashing to down to Neo. As Neo's grief and anger grew the feelings in his hands grew more and more. Neo survived by manipulating Metal and Glass into a incredibly hard shield. Today Neo has found many ways to manipulate his powers into very creative methods of attack and survival, but he steal has problems controlling it, his powers grow as he still inhales radiation. Mutation (only one – see the rules above for more clarification on this): Magnetic Manipulation. Neo has manipulation powers, magnetic fields found their way into oxygen. Neo had an allergic reaction and now able to control metal and special medals like steel, but the magnetic field still grows in his hands Loner or part of the group: Loner. Up for love: partially- No. Weapon of choice: Knives and chunks of metal. Other: He still seeks to find the un-identified location that bombed America, leading to his daughter's death. 6. Dragonette - Name: Mickey (Michael) Griffen Gender: Male Age (13-21): 14 Appearance: Light skin. Strawberry-blond hair. Turquoise eyes. Freckles. He gets pushed around a lot and doesn't resist it, therefore he's normally the one that does all the jobs that no one else wants to do. But like I said, he doesn't resist it and doesn't really mind, and he's loyal enough to do what ever people tell him to do. History: Mickey is a normal kid, nothing much exciting. His mom was a teacher, his dad a sheriff, and he was an only child. He's nothing special, just one of those kids that go unnoticed in the school hallways. He's not strong, not talented at sports, nor a wiz kid. He's just Mickey. Honestly, it's a surprise that he's lasted this long after the bombing, he's not really one of those rough-tough, feisty type of people. But he's determined. To keep himself alive and from depression, he's turned survival into a game of sorts, kind of like one of the video games that he used to play. You die you lose, stay alive and you win, those are the rules and he's determined to be the winner. And he figures while he's playing this mad game, hey why not earn some points and throw in a couple stunts here and there. Mutation: He can sense things around him by feeling vibrations through the earth. So if his bare skin is in touching the ground he can find anything from at least a mile away (that's why he's always bare-foot, so he can feel the earth beneath him). Loner? Or already in the group? Mickey also has a bunch of bullets for the gun because his dad always had a lot. So no problem there. They were just going to leave me there! Leave me as bait! What the hell, man? I was willing to join their cause and they were going to just throw me to this person who could’ve cut my neck by just staring at it. I moved away from Faye as she helped me to my feet, hissing under my breath. She either didn’t hear me or decided to ignore it. Maybe I should’ve kept my mouth shut and went to find the medicine myself! I could stand my ground against the Sayers. I had more brains then all of them put together!

Neo motioned to the car with a thick, tattooed arm. “Alright then, let’s get this show started.” He turned to me, “are you ready to show us where to go, little man?”

Little man! Did he just call me little man? Oh not again. “I am not a little man,” I said through gritted teeth. “Alright, so I may be on the short side but-!”

“Just call him Gabe, we’ve already have this conversation.” Faye said with a small smile. I turned on her, my shoulders heaving with built up anger.

“It’s not Gabe either. It’s Gabriel; don’t shorten my name!”

A tense silence spread over the top of us. I didn’t need them babying me! I was just as able as any of them. If they just watched me in action they’d know I was no third wheel. Weakness didn’t depend on how tall you were, hopefully!

“Alright-y then, let’s get going.” Noah finally spoke, moving the weight in his legs from angle to ankle.

They weren’t being serious, were they? Sure he hadn’t mowed us down with his car when we first meant, though Neo could be an even bigger threat then Sayers to us.

“Hold on a moment,” I said, placing up my good hand to stop Faye and Noah from walking into the car. On second thought, maybe I should let them go. After all they had done, why was I trying to keep them alive?

Neo turned and stared at me through dark eyes, “Lemme guess, how do you guys know that I am trustworthy?” When no one said anything he chuckled. “Well one reason is that I haven’t killed you yet, and if I wanted to find out where the Sayers hideout is I would’ve just followed you or maybe have followed someone more reliable.”

Faye looked at Noah, the leader I guess you could say nodding in agreement. “Alright then, we’ll go, but if you come with us you have to join our gang.”

“I’m fine with that, I’ve been alone for so long…” Neo trailed away before shaking his head to break his thought bubble. “So, what are we called?”

"It's not just us, we've got a couple more people at our camp. We're the Ivory Fangs and who said you could join?" Faye said. I put my hand on her arm.
"I think they're safe, Faye. Sounds like they'll be able to help. Anyway what's that thing they used to make posters of and put in elementary schools - theres safety in numbers?" I hoped this was the right decision. Please let this be the right decision. I turned to the others. "Gabriel, can you show us where to go?"

"Can we talk?" the guy asks after burning me. Oh yeah, that'll happen.

I see my knife and am about to lung for it when Wade puts a hand on my shoulder, "Come on Izz, he called a truce, we gotta respect that." He always was a weak one, in my fury I think he's always been weak. But he lowers his voice and says, "I don't like it any better then you, but think about it, this guy could make a terrible enemy. Just listen to him, kay?" Unfortunately what he says is true.

I huff and give the guy a death glare, but put my hands on my hips and say, "You got one five minutes. What do you want?"

The steaming heat that poured onto her weak, feathered little body wasn't doing too much to help her hunger, obviously. She turned towards another crow, and cawed; it flapped its torn-up wings at her indignantly in response. She looked at her haul; a medium-weight knapsack. She half wondered how something that small could've pulled up something this heavy. She put her head into the bag.

"No food." She sighed. "All that fighting for nothing." She crawled out and observed the city skyline. The sun was starting to go down; and so would she if she didn't find some food soon. She looked down, and to her surprise, there was some fighting going on. It looked like two against one. Sula tch'ed and preened her wings. She didn't plan on changing back so soon. She needed to find food first.

But this looked so interesting...she flapped down to a lower wall, cawing at the group. Maybe they would spare a loaf of bread for an innocent-looking crow. If they had a loaf of bread, that is.

"So you're telling us you devoured everything in this entire space all by your lonesome?" I questioned, giving him an intense glare and shook my head slightly. "I saw clear as day outside, this place is a gold mine. 'Kinda buried now..." I gestured my hand around. "But some at least should have survived. ’Nothing we can't dig up."

"Or are you too spineless to eat something a little mucky?” Izzy spat. “Well get over it.”

A shadow in my peripheral vision caught my eye. I glanced quickly, turning my head fully in its direction. My eyes darted around searching for what I know I saw, but, nothing. . .

I tapped Izzy’s hand twice, a signal I used to warn, “Somebody’s near.”

When Wade tapped my hand I gave an almost unnoticeable nod. My face showed that I didn't care, so this new kid wouldn't know something was up, but I kept my senses open and I was ready for another fight, just in case. Still ready for anything, me and Wade started picking out food from the ruble. The boy started doing the same. I kept my eye on him, but he seemed to be peaceful enough, which surprised me. I mean, after seeing all of those dead bodies outside, I figured he was a killer. But maybe he didn't kill them? I shook my head, no, I could see the marks that his venom left on them. This guy was certainly a puzzle.

Absentmindedly, I threw a couple crumbs to a bird that had landed nearby and continued to wonder over our new "friend". Heck, I didn't even know his name. "Hey," I said addressing the boy, "You got a name?"

The wind whistled through my hair as we rode through the streets, Neo humming to the static coming from his car radio. Ever since the bombing, anything from radios to televisions has been offline. The butterflies in my stomach were mutating into beasts the closer the car crept towards the old, abandoned Ambulance warehouse on the outer edge of town. I was just hoping with all my might that the Sayers weren’t waiting out there for us.

“Looks like everyone has gone to sleep early tonight,” Noah said, hanging his arm out the window.

He was wrong though, everyone was just hiding. I glanced outside and scanned the area. Already I could see the whites of people’s eyes shining in the darkness. They were watching us. In this day and age, driving a car was a very bad idea. My stomach began to do flips once again. I groaned loudly, digging my elbow into the thigh of my pants to stop myself from fidgeting. I could feel the gun in my pocket, biting into my skin.

“Where is this place?” Faye leant over the front passenger seat, her eyes glittering in the darkness of the car.
I looked up through the darkness of the windshield and felt my skin crawl. The blood in my veins turned cold, and my breath caught in my throat. There it was. The staff rising above the building, and the two serpents curling around it: the crest of the ambulance.

“We’re here.”

I'd noticed he'd been getting more and more quiet and anxious looking, it must be because of the car - it was making some noise, not much though.

"It doesn't really look like there's anyone here..." I said quietly.

"Yes there is." Neo said in his gruff voice. "Look around you, see the whites of their eyes? This isn't a good place to be."

"You got a name, boy?" asked the aggressive girl, which was ridiculous as she was obviously younger and smaller than me, I didn't care, though. I was more interested in the voices from the outside, and in the two anxiously pretending nothing's wrong.
"Paul, you're Izz. His name I haven't heard yet." I answered.
"Me, I'm Wade." Wade replied.
"It's nice to meet the two of you." I said, smiling coldly, wiping some blood from the edge of my lip.
They didn't smile.

Sula pecked at the crumbs the girl had thrown her. She sized the entire group up. There was the girl Izz, of course, small but fiery. She seemed friendly enough; at least she had thrown some food at herself, which was pretty much what Sula bargained for. Of the two boys, Wade seemed quiet but normal; it was the other one that bothered her. She clawed closer to the girl, feeling uncomfortable.

The sun had nearly disappeared now, lending the sky a quality of hazy red smoke. She wished she had a watch; how long had it been since she transformed? Two hours, three? She hoped it wasn't close to four. Last time she ran into a group of the other mutants they weren't very friendly to her and it had ended with blood spilled. Their blood, of course. She could still feel the metallic taste in her mouth.

The crumbs were all gone now; she cawed at Izz, hoping the girl would give her more. The hunger was beginning to eat away at her stomach. Couldn't someone throw her a larger piece?

I could a few little eyes peering out every now and then. I also couldn't help but notice how Gabe got more and more anxious. We had no idea what they were capable of, and I don't think Gabe wanted to talk about it either. I turned to Noah and Faye.
